Wild and the Sharks scare the crap out of me, the rest I think the Hawks have a good chance in 7 games.
Completely fair.  I fear the 'Hawks and the Sharks and that's it this year in the West (so far).  The past being what it is, I'd rather not play the Blackhawks but it seems that we would need to jump that hurdle to get to the next level.  Makes for a perfect playoff matchup.

I keep reading about the Kings looking to trade with Buffalo.  From what I read it was a Brown plus a pick for Kane.  I really can't believe anyone would take on Brown's contract but the narrative is that Buffalo just wants to get rid of Kane.  Maybe that is just a Kings site wishing.  What is the Buffalo side hearing?

I'm not a Sabre's guy, but I would think any deal involving Kane would be for a D-man. Ultimately, I dont think he gets moved.

With the improvement of Forbert and Gravel, there is word that Muzzin is now expendable because the Kings won't be able to keep all their D protected in the expansion draft.  However, the deals involving Muzzin I have seen talked about are to the Av's for Landeskog.

My house actually is closer to Hartford now than Boston. But even back in the day, we used to go down to "The Mall" regularly to watch teams that we would never get a chance to see in Boston. I saw Gretzky and the Oilers in Hartford, among others. Also went to two of the three games in the 1990 Adams QF when I was in college, because it was easier to get in there than the Garden.

Oh, and WTF Red Wings?  Marchenko on waivers?  Good thing we have Jonathan Ericsson... :hot:
Marchenko looks gross but I agree on Ericsson.  I like how Ouellet is developing though, he looks good.

Detroit is slightly above average in the NHL 5 on 5 but their power play is historically bad and that is the reason they struggle so much.  That and iffy goaltending which surprises me.  Mrazek had his best game of the year tonight, hopefully that leads to better days ahead.

Really don't understand Hakstol lineup decisions.  Playing a speed team and sit Ghost and Konecny.

I get that Ghost has made some mistakes. I never see MacDonald or his favorite VandeVelde benched for their mistakrs.
Hakstol now officially pissing me off. Supposedly Ghost and Konecny are going to be scratched a third straight game  on Monday.

their dump it in and play defense was almost like the neutral zone trap.  Except it sucked worse.

17 shots on goal. 17.

yeah play for OT when you scratch a young playmaker who excels at 3v3

hope to score on the PP.  Oh your second unit now has Wiese and Gudas? Never mind.

Totally clean hit.  Also loved that the gloves dropped immediately by the defense to come to the aid of a teammate.

That's hockey.
The fact that he was penalized is ridiculous.
Grapes made a good point on Coaches Corner - the lack of heavy hits like this(due to all the penalties, fines and suspensions) has emboldened forwards going down the ice and they no longer have a head on the swivel like in years past.

Looking ahead this week, I see MN plays Chi on the back end of B2B games while Chicago will coming off a three day rest.

Hate to see Fabbri go down. Blues are definitely too short up front now. Hopefully this turns them into sellers and they can pack it in for next year.

I wouldn't worry to much about it, Hawks have been playing pretty shaky on D as of late.

Claude out as Bs coach.
Good Coach but time to move on...need a new voice as well as a Coach that opens things up a little more...the B's are in a middle-ground they need to get out of...they are a potential playoff team but realistically have no shot of doing much...they have some real good young talent/prospects (especially at D) that they should be building around...my fear is that Sweeney/Cam will deal some of it away to save their jobs...I would rather see them move some players like Krejci and get more youth/draft picks as well as clearing cap space (the Krug contract is a fire-able offense)...time to look at the future instead of the present...

the GM is the problem, not the coach.

Top Corsi team in the league right now.

saving their jobs is the reason for this move in the first place.  he was getting everything he could and more out of that lineup.  this is the one case were I don't expect a short-term boost from a change.  if they stay on the fringe/outside I would expect more dumb moves to come to save their jobs

Claude is a very good Coach but I do believe it is time for a new voice...the team rolled over and died the past two years...to me that is unacceptable and the Coach has to take part of that blame...now I do agree that the front-office deserves more of the blame and hopefully they won't be far behind...

Coaches are always fired for "a new voice" or "losing the locker room", but are nearly always hired again in short order by another team. Either people look for excuses, or athletes are weird. Rarely in the "real world" are bosses fired at such a rate because their teams have given up on them.

Not many other professions where the employee makes more than the Boss...

I get that. I still find it odd that it seems OK to just not have to listen to the guy in charge if you don't want to. I know it wont change, but the whole dynamic seems weird.

Julien is a good coach but I hated how he handled things publicly . Everything is always somebody else fault. It always seemed like he complaining about the league or the refs. Not afraid to publicly rip his players either.

Top Corsi team in the league right now.
While they're tops in Corsi, they're near the bottom in shooting percentage. Those may seem to be at odds with each other, but the shots never seem to come from the right spots. I'm pretty sure they're ranked near the bottom, if not right on it, in scoring opportunities as well. So is that the players not going to the "dirty" areas, or the system? Or do they go hand in hand?

No question Julien was well-liked and there definitely was a lot of defense of him in the media the last few weeks. What was behind that, I'm not sure. But there certainly is far less support for Neely and Sweeney, and rightfully so. I have to assume they've been told "playoffs or else" and like others here, I fear that could mean a panic move that would damage the team for the future.

I'm still in the camp of something needed to be done. The players needed a fresh voice, and Julien deserves a chance somewhere else.  We will see how it all works out.

(And by the way, Wyshynski is a moron for harping on the media crushing Sweeney for holding the press conference during the Pats parade. That is a classic example of a gutless PR move. Assuming it had to be done today, they easily could have held it at 2:00 or whatever. Holding it at 11:30 is beyond weak and they deserve to get lambasted for it.)
