I gave the offense 26 players, as opposed to 24 with the D. That's often how it breaks down, especially with offensive-minded coaches.

The numbering discrepancy Dexter Manley pointed out (He can't read, but he can count!Richardson and Sinclair are the only two questionable names on that list.
) can account for Richardson. Why is Sinclair questionable to you. Is it that you don't think they'll keep 6 LBs, or that you think another LB will be #6 (and if so, who?)?I don't think Sinclair is any good. I'd suspect they either keep Fincher or sign a veteran castoff from another team. The numbering discrepancy Dexter Manley pointed out (He can't read, but he can count!Richardson and Sinclair are the only two questionable names on that list.) can account for Richardson. I know, I know, the 20 questions from everyone got a little bit neglected, but they haven't been forgotten. One of my responses was to the nicknames post. When I first looked at the question I could only figure a couple of the guys that had real nicknames, although after walking around the locker room pre-practice I was amazed at how many guys actually get called by a nickname. I realize that some of the nicknames are no brainers, but I wanted to give a pretty honest look at who gets called what. Of course I didn't list anyone who goes primarily by a first or last name. I also excluded any media or fan nicknames; yea believe it or not none of my teammates call me "Captain Chaos," and no one calls CP "Southeast Jerome." Really, that would just be some stupid ****.

:X Fred Davis will never, ever live down the "oversleeping" thing. I bet that's where the "boozie" nicknames come from.Sebowski said:- Fred Davis – Boozie/Booze dog/Anything that you can incorporate with booze..- Dometric Evans – Meat- Todd Collins – Rainman

The team bought him a big clock necklace like Flava-Flav wears before training camp.
Sinclair looks stiff and #46 Fincher seems to be around the ball a lot. I think that the DE James will get bumped by #95 Wilson, and/or #98 Jackson, who shows a nice push from DE. #40 also is a nice sleeper. Also, I think #32 Hamilton may make Fox a casualty. Offensively, #16 drops too many and Mix will take his spot due to superior ST work. And #23 Mason gets cut because he fumbles (and used to be a Dallas fan).I'd like to see 2-3 of the backup OL on the p-squad, like #62 Clark, #63 and #72 Crummey.I don't think Sinclair is any good. Zorn's expectation was to stretch the field if at all possible with his starters playing in the first half -- hoping to take several deep shots -- but this outing quickly devolved into a rudimentary exercise in mere survival. His best wishes -- to see Campbell flash his big arm; to display a downfield component to offset the traditional dink-and-dunk look of his West Coast offense -- never materialized, with every facet of his offense utterly overwhelmed from the onset.
So much for the game plan. So much for three games worth of largely steady production and mounting positive vibes that the Redskins' latest transition to a new offense would be smooth. In this, the second-to-last preseason game -- and the final exhibition with the starters scheduled to play any significant role -- Washington's big-money guys left the field trailing 34-0 in what would end up a 47-3 loss, and Zorn was simply trying to salvage a yard or two by any means necessary.
The play the rookie coach most longed to see, Campbell launching a 50-yard strike down the middle of the field, never took flight, with his aging offensive line completely overrun by Carolina's front seven. The Redskins could barely execute a three-yard hitch, much less hold off the Panthers long enough for Campbell to drop back five steps or more and set. At least twice, Campbell undermined his own well-being, holding the ball too long to contribute to sacks and busted plays. Virtually everything Zorn aspired to was blown up before it began.
In one stretch of the first quarter, Campbell was sacked three times in six plays and was flung harshly to the ground to boot. Every part of the line crumbled. When Campbell failed to get rid of the ball in time, the Panthers plunged right through the interior of the line. Both tackles were victimized -- right tackle Jon Jansen's problems in pass protection were never more glaring, even before spraining his right foot; Julius Peppers plowed Samuels five yards directly into Campbell's back, causing a fumble and Zorn's rethink.
LinkGood thing the draft is coming up next week and we have high draft picks which we can use on offensive and defensive linemen.Taylor suffered a sprained right knee after getting tangled up on a play in the second quarter, according to Coach Jim Zorn. X-rays were negative, Zorn said, and Taylor is scheduled for an MRI exam today.
"When he flipped over and they pulled down his sock, that's a very bad sign," Zorn said. "It was a tough situation, but I think we're going to come out of it okay. Our initial evaluation is that I think we'll come out of this one okay."
But judging by his teammates' overt acts of concern when Taylor was forced to leave the game, it seems he might be sidelined for significant time, at the very least.
Jansen was getting pushed around regularly, and Heyer looked bad last night, too.As if losing six-time Pro Bowl defensive end Jason Taylor to a sprained right knee wasn't bad enough, right offensive tackle Jon Jansen sprained his right foot. That's five straight years that one-time ironman Jansen has been hurt: The rundown: season-ending ruptured Achilles' in 2004; broken thumbs, 2005; torn calf muscle, 2006; season-ending broken right leg and fractured right ankle in the 2007 opener; and now the foot. That's quite a litany. And suddenly Stephon Heyer, the 2007 rookie free agent from Maryland, is a starter again.
He did and was targeted a few times, but Campbell was in duress most of the night and when you are only able to muster 3 or 4 first downs in a full half of action you are not going to be executing many offensive plays. Keep the chin up... I think the Skins will learn from this game and improve.call me crazy, but I think maybe this loss could be a blessing in disguise. Things were almost going too good so far this preseason. The team may have thought they were better than they really were. Hopefully guys get fired up, come back with a better effort. I do know if the skins line can't protect Campbell better, it will be a long season. And did Santana Moss even play last night? Stinks when your #1 WR doesn't make ANY noise for an entire half![]()
Yeah I don't have a good feeling about this MRI today at all...How did Erasmus James look?LinkGood thing the draft is coming up next week and we have high draft picks which we can use on offensive and defensive linemen.Taylor suffered a sprained right knee after getting tangled up on a play in the second quarter, according to Coach Jim Zorn. Oh, wait...........
I only saw James on 2 plays (it was hard watching the game). He looked quick, because he was across the line of scrimmage well before the ball was snapped, drawing a penalty.
I'm pretty sure we lead the league in cutting reviews when our team blows goats. It's an art form. Looks like we'll get to practice it a lot this year, unfortunately. Their lines got decimated last night, with the exception of the D-line in the 1st quarter before Taylor went out. Taylor had done nothing outstanding at all, but he was occupying 2 blockers on each play and that allowed the rest of the line to exert some pressure. Supposedly (radio report) he'll be out 10-14 days. Kareem Moore was the only defensive player who looked good. Linemen were getting blown off the ball, LB's were out of position, DB's were getting left in single coverage and beaten regularly. What the #### is it when the Redskins blitz anyway? The last time I think they got to anyone with a blitz was right about the time the cotton gin was invented. Other teams regularly exert pressure through blitzes but not our team, oh no. They're polite. The blitzers look to see who's supposed to block them and they run right at the blocker.I'm pretty sure we lead the league in cutting reviews when our team blows goats.
Hello, nice to meet you Mr. Blocker. Let's stand here and chat while the play evolves. How are the wife and kids?
This is why I've wanted to see Landry blitzing more, but they just don't have the horses in the secondary to allow that to happen. BTW, for your enjoyment, I made this after last night's game. It's an art form. Looks like we'll get to practice it a lot this year, unfortunately. That was 2 years ago, and you're exactly right. Kevin Sheehan and Andy Polian were talking about that this morning.Gah...this game reminded me of a preseason game, I think it was Gibbs' second year, where the Skins got HAMMERED by the Patriots in preseason. Something like 41-0. I believe that this was when the team was projected to do pretty well, be a contender, but that game presaged a 5-11 record, if memory serves correctly. They got beat in every phase of the game, just like Saturday night.
I'm going to subscribe to the "never let them see you sweat" philosophy here and indicate my preference for not changing the approach to the last preseason game based upon Saturday's performance. If you treat Saturday like it's a crisis, then it's now a crisis and what happens if the offense is shaky once again on Thursday? It's a veteran team that by all accounts has worked hard this preaseason (especially with that extra Hall of Fame game) and that had a bad game. I don't think you treat this as anything more than that, especially when your season, like your preseason, starts early and your guys can use the rest while the roster can't afford any more important injuries. Work out the kinks in practice. Now Zorn is talking about playing the starters again in the final preseason game. They won't distinguish themselves and a couple of them will get hurt.
dgreen said:I, for one, am getting sick of Comcast Sportsnet's endless technical difficulties. It seems like they've had something go wrong in almost every preseason game they've covered since winning the broadcast rights a couple years ago. This week was the worst.I'm so glad this next game is an NBC nationally televised game.
No quote from Portis, of course.Offensive Players Want to Play ThursdayJim Zorn has told the offensive starters that, after their performance in a 47-3 loss Saturday night to Carolina, they need to prepare to play Thursday and veteran players told Jason Reid and Paul Tenorio that they agree."Yeah, no doubt we have to do this," wide receiver Antwaan Randle El said. "With the way we played, it's just the right thing to do."Offensive coordinator Sherman Smith said that the group has too much pride "to let that be the last taste in their mouth. I never doubted that they'd want to go back out [Thursday, in the preseason finale against Jacksonville at FedEx Field] and show what they're about."Players said that Zorn has not specified how many series they can expect to play. They'll game plan for the first two series, but if they "sustain a drive, it might be one and out."Struggles weren't limited to the offense Saturday, but defensive starters get a break Thursday. "This is the first time since I've been here that I would say the other team played with more intensity than we did," linebacker London Fletcher said. "Obviously we didn't need to see the game tape to know we didn't play well."...Jon Jansen also gave a quick update on the foot injury he suffered Saturday night, saying it is a little bruised. "No doubt in a couple of days, it'll be fine," Jansen said. He expects to be ready for the season opener Sept. 4.

Matt Sinclair released.Vernon Fox was cut. That will leave us with a lot of youth (read: inexperience) at safety. The remaining safeties on the roster are Landry, Doughty, Moore, Horton, Hamilton and Ghee. I imagine Ghee will be the odd man out in that group.
ETA: Babatunde Oshinowo and Dorian Smith were also cut. That leaves two more to be cut before tomorrow afternoon.

If Chris Cooley is any indicator, the players are pretty ticked and eager to rectify a miserable performance.I'm going to subscribe to the "never let them see you sweat" philosophy here and indicate my preference for not changing the approach to the last preseason game based upon Saturday's performance. Of course much concern will invade the Redskins after this week, but hopefully there is compensation in our trial. A confident 3-0 team has been humbled with more than enough time to inventory our problems. It seems unlikely, but everyone has something to learn from a loss like the one we just took. We will also have a new motivation to improve as a team.
Tomorrow's sunrise marks the 11th day left in preparation for the Super Bowl champs. There is no question in my mind whether or not this team will show up to Redskins Park ready to work. Keeping in mind that we still play Jacksonville, we will be ready for a Thursday night showdown in New York. This loss will do nothing inside the locker room besides renew vigor - and for the first time in the past couple weeks I can't wait to get back to practice.
Goode, a 6-3, 238-pound tight end out of Maryland, has turf toe. Verdun-Wheeler returns to bolster the linebacker numbers, with Marcus Washington resting his hip a bit last week.
Well, given that the veteran offensive players seem to back this move, I will too, but my nightmare is going to be in the form of a major injury.Zorn said on the radio last night that he's just sending the starters back out for one series. If they go 3-and-out, he'll consider a second series.
