****OFFICIAL 2008 Washington Redskins Thread**** (1 Viewer)

Jason Taylor is walking unassisted:

Defensive end Jason Taylor is walking, four days after having emergency surgery on his left calf on Monday morning. When Taylor left Redskin Park on Wednesday, he was on crutches. On Thursday, he had one crutch and had a Redskins staffer carrying a box for him. Taylor just walked out the building without crutches and carrying his own box. That's a hopeful sign that he coudl be back as soon as next week's game at Philadelphia.
I heard a report that Bubba Tyer said he's never had to deal with this injury in his 37 years in the NFL. But, once they heard about Taylor's issue, they starting researching it. He wouldn't name the player, but Tyer said one LB had the same thing happen last year and only missed one week.

"Right now, we're with Jon Jansen," Zorn said after the Redskins completed preparations at Redskins Park. "Stephon got some practice time in today, so he's feeling better. I think [it will be] a game-time decision, but right now, to me, it looks like Jansen is the guy for us."
Strong-side linebacker Marcus Washington (hamstring) could be a game-time decision.
I think Marcus has lost a little bit the last year or so. I wonder if it's time to start moving towards Blades.

I really like that they are getting back to the WR screen. They were so successful with it in 2005. I have no idea why Gibbs got away from it.

Question: Why can they run the WR and TE screens so well, yet struggle with the RB screens?

Totally different passes, especially the WR screen. That's run off of a three step drop and rifled to Moss on a line from 20+ yards away. The TE screen is more similar, but you've got a bigger target; also, frequently the RB screens are thrown with the RB on the move, maybe even with his back to the QB so that a lot of touch needs to be used to get the pass over the onrushing DL's, but softly into the hands of the RB (who may also be in traffic). It's a tough throw, but I also don't think they've tended to execute the blocking of it very well either.

OK, let me rephrase some things a little. It seems (and I could be really wrong) that other teams have run the RB screen with more success than we have and it seems (again, could be wrong) that we run the WR and TE screens with more success than most of the league. So, it's not really a comparison between our WR screen and our RB screen, rather our WR screen vs other WR screens and our RB screen vs. other RB screens.

Got it, and yes, I agree with you. I frankly can't remember a 'Skins team that has ever run a RB screen well. It's never been our bread and butter, and Gibbs I never ran screens.

GREAT win!

But, I gotta admit, I'm not as giddy as I'd expect to be. I think that's because they seemed to miss out on several things. The FGs after first and goal (especially the Rabach penalties) were frustrating. They really could have blown Dallas out, which would have been so much sweeter.

Now, going into next week, I expect a win. I know it's going to be a tough game, but this team is playing so well right now that they can make mistakes and beat Dallas on the road.

Oh, and if Dallas was considered the best team in the NFL prior to today, who is that team today?

I'm still trying to figure out "how the hell did they DO that?" :o But you're right, there were missed opportunities in the game and they have to learn to take advantage of them better than that. In close games when they're not playing well they'll need to cash in everything they can to win. They completely outplayed Dallas today on both sides of the ball. The defense was very good, and the offense had a bunch of long scoring drives. I love long scoring drives, they demoralize the other team. And it looks like we have a real coach.

good win for da skins. but as a Cowboys fan, the silver lining is this is a gut check. i'm thinkin the Cowboys peak around playoff time!

i'll add that the Cowboys looked off today. the skins were the better team TODAY, but dont go suckin eachothers weiners just yet.

that said, congrats on a good NFC rivalry win.

Why are you in our forum, after we just defeated you on your home turf?????? GTFO!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm adjusting my expectations upwards. This team has really amazed me with its growth, and Campbell is a legit starting QB who not only can run the offense, he can make plays when his team needs him too. I'm very impressed.

This win will have me smiling all week long.

a 3-1 start. after week 1, I was feeling a 1-4 start, with a home win vs AZ.

amazing.

thing about Zorn - oftentimes he has this 'I know something you don't' look on his face. I like that.

me so zorny

Did anyone else seem to think that Portis was winded an awful lot? I felt he could have been in there more. Especially towards the end. He had a great game, but there were times when i was baffled as to why he wasn't on the field.

Several players were going out due to the humidity. I'm assuming that's what was causing it with Portis. I noticed it also, also saw his legs buckle on one run. But he kept going, you've got to give him credit.I think that's the first time he went over 100 yards in Dallas.

Nice win guys.

No excuses here, you flat out wanted it more. I predicted an ugly game, and it delivered.

It's going to be one of the most interesting years ever for the NFC East.

yea tru. i would have thought they were used to the heat after that new orleans game! but yea, maybe im just selfish because i want him on the field every play! nevertheless, great game. THe offense is learning quicker than i expected. any updates on springs?

Feels good. Campbell was composed for the most part. Portis had some nice runs. Zorn looked like he belongs. Huge confidence boost to the whole team. An even bigger confidence boost if they can somehow win in Philly next week.

2-0 in fantasy

Classy as ever, Mr. Banker. The rematch in Landover will be very interesting indeed...On to Philly!

An exciting thought about the Skins D. This team is 3-1 and the 4 teams we have played (Giants, Saints, Cardinals, Cowboys) are all in the top 5 offenses for most yards averaged per week. :goodposting:

Good news out of Dallas:

"Everybody recognized that I wasn't really getting the ball in the first half," Owens said. "I'm pretty sure everybody watching the game recognized it, people in the stands recognized it, I think my team recognized it. I didn't quit. I kept fighting and trying to running my routes and trying to get open."
Let the meltdown begin.

He had a nice catch on their last drive.

Thanks! Classic NFC East matchup...you just never know. You didn't have to come in this thread and make any remarks, but you did and I like your approach. :excited: As I mentioned previously, I always find it odd that a the home team doesn't appear to have a real advantage when they play.

 I'm amazed at how fast the team has gelled offensively. Campbell was lights out good today, and his command of the offense looks better every week. The most encouraging thing is that the Redskins looked like the far more physical team on the field -- both sides of the ball.

This is stunning:

All afternoon, Campbell and the Redskins had maintained a commanding grip on the football. Their first possession had lasted four minutes and 29 seconds. Another went 5:05 ... 4:55 ...4:24 ... 6:54.

"If you don’t stop the run, you let teams stick around," Cowboys linebacker Bradie James said.

After their own opening possession, meanwhile, the Cowboys’ offense never had a drive that lasted longer than 2:35. Washington’s total time with the football measured 38:09 to the Cowboys’ 21:51.
LinkI truly can't fathom what Garrett was thinking calling this game.

I get the feeling that Mr. Horton will be seeing Mr. Westbrook a lot next weekend.

The exact location of their meeting places will go a long way in determining the outcome of the game.

A yellow flag indicated that there were 12 Cowboys on the field.

"I can’t understand how two players who play the same position can be standing next to one another," Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said, with more-than-usual bewilderment. "I can’t fathom that."
:lmao: Link

If the Redskins had converted more of their FG drives into TD's this game would not have been close. They need to learn to do that.

Lavar was ragging on TO on the Comcast postgame show. TO also said something being held a lot by the DBs. Lavar just kept saying in a whiny voice, "Aww, they're holding her. She's being held and can't get catches."
