***OFFICIAL 2009 NFL DRAFT*** (2 Viewers)

Hmmm. So the Bills gave up their first 4th round pick to move up about 20 picks from the 3rd round to the 2nd. I guess I can live with that.

They need OLs and now is when all the guards start to go - I remember watching the 'phins a couple, maybe three, years ago losing out on guards they needed because they didn't pick in the 2nd.

Bills on the clock :oDon't blow it
Levitre. They must feel pretty good about Walker, Chambers, Bell at OT. Now, they've made some big upgrades to the interior of the line with Wood and Levitre.
I think the Bills may be way higher on Bell than most people realize. And despite lots of people thinking Walker is too big to play LT, he has pretty quick feet and did a pretty good job over there filling in for Peters early in the season IMO. Just from things Chris Brown at BB.com kept saying, I didn't think that OT was going to be a priority.

So I don't know whether I should be taking a bow because I picked the Vikings picks in Shark Pool Mock Draft V.2, or if the Vikings should be embarrassed that a school teacher from South Dakota can make the same picks as they do!?!?!? :o

Why would the 'boys trade all the way to day two - - voluntarily?
Yeah, talk about an unbelievably boring day if you're a Cowboys fan. They had one pick on the first day and they end up trading it for a second day pick.
Same if you are a Bears fan
Maybe because in this weak draft the first 2 rounds' picks are overvalued?I can see taking some shots at Players 70-100 on your board and pushing picks into 2010.

Was arguing for the Birds to take either Brown [if he were there, pipe dream] or McCoy in the 2nd all along and they did it :shrug:

McCoy is perfect for us, he's not going to ruffle Westy's feathers this year, but should be a major upgrade over Lorenzo Booker and could easily start for us for years given his talent level. Giddy.

I'm interested to see if anyone drafts Cornelius Ingram in the 2nd. That guy looks like a potential beast at TE, although he's a project.

I'm thinking those who were arguing the Broncos and Bills front offices knew what they were doing with those Cutler/Peters trades are SERIOUSLY rethinking their stances now :lmao:

Okay actually found an article on the kid. Choice quote:

"Once considered an undrafted free agent by NFL scouts, Mitchell's draft stock is on the rise and now has a legitimate shot of hearing his name called on Day 2 of the draft. I had one scout tell me that Mitchell could be a guy like Indianapolis Colts safety Antoine Bethea, who was a little-known safety out of Howard University, but was selected in the sixth round by the Colts in 2006. Bethea was an impact player as a rookie for Indy. The Colts are among the teams showing interest in the safety."

Link To Article with a lot about the kid

Here's a youtube video of Michael Mitchell, complete with really bad soundtrack:

The sheer amount of comments by people wanting the Raiders to draft the kid (I don't mean today, I mean the 1-2 weeks ago) makes me genuninely wonder if Al Davis is using youtube for his scouting...-QG

IMHO...you took the 3rd best rookie center as a swap for a All Pro left tackle, took a high bust stiff pass rusher [i really don't like Maybin], took a guard that ranked 4th on Bloom's IL list, and a DB who was the 10th ranked CB on Bloom's board and probably has to play S in the NFL.

Boy is it stunning how dry and boring the ESPN draft coverage is in comparison to the NFL Networks? I was flipping back and forth but have stuck with NFLN the last hour or so b/c ESPN just has no energy.

Giants quietly had a really nice first day. Get a polished wideout who might contribute as a rookie, a LB who should compete for PT, and a OT that some thought might sneak into the 1st round and upgrades them at the swing tackle.

that's cool. I disagree on a few of those points.Maybin could bust but he fills a glaring need on this team and could turn out to be the best pure pass rusher in this class. He's still young but his first step is pretty ridiculous. I would have preferred Orakpo as a better all-around player though.

Not sure how Wood/Levitre will fit in but they have dramatically improved the depth/talent on the interior of the line. Levitre was pretty widely regarded as the best guard in a weak class. Wood for Peters is an awful swap, but given that Peters signed in Philadelphia for about the same amount of money the Bills were offering means he pretty much forced his way out of town. Crazy as it sounds, the Bills did play better with him out of the lineup last year. It also means the Bills feel very good about Demetrius Bell developing into a quality tackle. They already turned Peters from an undrafted free agent into an All Pro. Maybe they'll get lucky again.

I think Byrd is a prototypical cover 2 CB but if he becomes an impact FS, that also fills a huge need for the team.

I'm not crazy about the draft, but I don't think it's been terrible. The Peters trade sucked, but I didn't expect them to replace him here anyway.

Is Bloom the best/only talent evaluator worth considering here? What did Mayock think of these guys?

EDIT to Add Mayock's rankings:

Levitre = #1 guard

Wood = #2 center

Maybin = #5 OLB

Byrd = #5 CB

other than Maybin, looks like Mayock and the Bills were in pretty close agreement here. and he had Maybin ranked even with Larry English who the Chargers drafted 5 picks later.

Beatty would get devoured at right tackle. He is strictly a left tackle prospect, and really needs to get stronger, but he has all the tools to be a starter at left tackle at some point in his career.

As I said weeks ago, Childress was just smitten at Oklahoma pro day. Wouldn't be surprised if more sooners go block for Adrian than just Loadholt. Surprised Robinson is still available. Childress followed "the other guard" around and I'll be surprised if the Vikes don't draft him.

Robinson is just not very athletic. Strong player when he gets a hold of you, but he struggles big time when he is asked to move in space.

totally agree and after being buried on the depth chart in 08, manningham will seem like another rookie draft pick in 09

I don't think any Bills fans were happy with the trade. I think all of us felt like they could/should have gotten more. :confused: And, no offense to Bloom, but he's not the be all/end all of talent evaluators. He's pretty good and much better than just about anyone here, but only time will tell on Buffalo's picks. They had major holes on the offensive line and the DE position and they've added 2 guys to the O-line and a guy that has the ability to be a Dwight Freeney at the DE position. I think that the Jairus Byrd pick wasn't very good, but they could use a ballhawk like Byrd in the secondary.
