OK, skill positions drafted during Reid's tenure:Hits as in players who have made a contribution commeasurate with their draft positionJason Wood said:Well see I hear that a lot and yet...they got the ultimate skill position pick, their franchise QB, right...and did that in a year when EVERYONE wanted them to take Ricky Williams. They also got DeSean Jackson right, and Westbrook right [in the 3rd round!]. But even if we accept your point at face value, to me that's the reason they wouldn't want to take an RB in the 1st. Better to whiff on a 2nd or 3rd round skill player then commit 1st round money to one.JetMaxx said:I get what you are saying but I honestly don't have much faith in their ability to draft skill position players. Their track record in drafting RBs, WRs, and TEs is rather poor.
2006 4 109 Jason Avant WR Michigan
2004 5 162 Thomas Tapeh RB Minnesota
2003 2 61 L.J. Smith TE Rutgers
2002 3 91 Brian Westbrook RB Villanova
2001 4 121 Correll Buckhalter RB Nebraska
2001 5 155 A.J. Feeley QB Oregon
1999 1 2 Donovan McNabb QB Syracuse
1999 6 172 Cecil Martin FB Wisconsin
The list is inflated a bit by the likes of Cecil Martin and Tapeh who started or played regularly from late draft picks.
Misses guys who have made limited contribution, or should have done more coming from their draft position
2005 2 35 Reggie Brown WR Georgia
2005 3 77 Ryan Moats RB Louisiana Tech
2003 3 95 Billy McMullen WR Virginia
2001 1 25 Freddie Mitchell WR UCLA
2000 2 36 Todd Pinkston WR Southern Mississippi
2000 4 99 Gari Scott WR Michigan State
1999 4 130 Na Brown WR North Carolina
I've removed all the misses from the 5th or later, as I think it's just a bonus if they produce anything, but here they are for completeness
1999 6 201 Troy Smith WR East Carolina
1999 7 208 Jed Weaver TE Oregon
2000 6 171 Thomas Hamner RB Minnesota
2004 6 185 Andy Hall QB Delaware
2004 7 242 Bruce Perry RB Maryland
2002 5 162 Freddie Milons WR Alabama
2006 5 147 Jeremy Bloom WR Colorado
2001 5 147 Tony Stewart TE Penn State
They've drafted 3 backs in early rounds (1-4), hit on Westy and Buck, missed on Moats. Sorry bunch of WRs in the Miss pile though. Maybe too hard on Brown, but he's an early 2nd round pick, he should be starting and improving, not regressing.
ETA: used 2006 and back, to give a fair timeframe for the picks to pan out or not. Jackson would be a hit, Hunt a miss of they were included.
