*** Official 2010 Philadelphia Eagles Thread *** (2 Viewers)

Tonight will be a big test for us obviously. Win and we're 6-3 and tied with the Giants, lose and we're 5-4 along with the Skins and have the tenor of a very mediocre team. If Vick is REALLY an MVP candidate (ESPN's label, NOT mine), then he needs to tear up MNF tonight.
Agreed. I like what Ive seen so far from Vick but its only been for 3+ games. He needs to make sure we beat an inferior opponent in Washington tonight.

Not only must Philadelphia win tonight, they have to win to set up next week's battle for the divisional lead with the Giants.Winning tonight puts Philly at 1-1 in the division and 6-3 overall, tied with the Giants. Beating New York next week would be extremely impressive at this point with a 7-3 record and wins over NYG and ATL. With no impressive / dominant team this year, the door is open.

I think we all need to give Andy Reid some credit. He has taken a ton of criticism over the years, but he has pretty much completely changed over the roster multiple times and still has a competitive team every year. All of his controversial decisions regarding this team have been correct, including bringing in Vick, trading McNabb to a division rival, and deciding to sit Kevin and go with Vick as the starter. He really knows what he is doing, and I am thrilled as an Eagles fan to have a coach like him.

This team is so young, yet I haven't felt that the Eagles were an elite team since 2004 when they went to the Superbowl. If Vick keeps playing like this, we may go again this year.

Hes very good with some things and absolutely attrocious with others. He is not a 100% well rounded coach like Billicheck

I agree with the overall point of this for the most part, but take exception to the bolded when referring to in-game management.

 Even if Philly loses tonight, they remain a game behind the Giants, meaning the winner of next week's game is in first place: if the Giants win, they'd be two games up; if Philly wins, they'd be tied, but Philly would own the tienbreaker.regardless of tonight's outcome, next week is for 1st place.

Any way you slice it, it'll be a good thing if they win the game. But agreed, next weeks matchup against the Gmen will be the biggest game for the Eagles so far.

MISSION: ACCOMPLISHED

Pregame festivities was reportedly Hall and Landry taunting DeSean with "night night", "we're gonna put you to sleep" and making gestures to that effect and DeSean had enough. Seems like it worked against them. Stay classy, DeAngelo.

Record breaking game, and we'll be talking about it for years to come, some of us will have been there. It's fun.

Back to the hear and now, I hate to be a debbie downer, but the defense didn't exactly shut any doors tonight. How about the special teams, still? At 35-14, I was maybe starting to get a little uncomfortable.

Big game this Sunday against NY. This will be a big test and it might define their season. Let's hope the offense and Vick continues to roll.

I don't think well-rounded is right. I think "hasn't won multiple super bowls" is the correct wording.

What more can you say? Fantastic outcome, total domination. Now let's not lay an egg this coming week as a followup. After this week, and the Giants woes, I want to see us take command of the division next week. :kicksrock:

How does any defense play up by 35 points??????? The first big play for McNabb came when Bradley slipped and fell down. The numbers weren't great, but in the context of the game and conditions, the defense was very good.I wanted to post that I was absolutely wrong about Michael Vick. I was very outspoken in support of Kolb. My basic premise is that accurate pocket passers win Super Bowls while scrambling QB's ultimately leave a team heartbroken. I stand by that premise, but now believe that Vick doesn't belong in either category...he is both.Vick is playing like a top five passer...AND playing as the most electric scrambler in NFL history (and I saw Cunningham/Young in their primes). Steve Young is right...as long as Vick plays like he is, this offense is virtually unstoppable.

meh, while agree that 28 points is a lot and would normally win the game, I can't fault the defense too much. When it was still a meaningful game (first 3-4 minutes, haha) I thought they played lights out. IIRC, Washington went 3 and out like three or four times in a row. It wasn't until the Birds were up by 3 TD's that Washington scored (first two TDs were following long passes off of busted plays.) Bradley played well as did the secondary. Trent mauled everyone they put on him and the Oline in general I thought, kept pretty consistent pressure on McNabb throughout the game.

Honestly, the only 'negative' I can draw on from memory is the botched kickoff by Jorrick Calvin and general ST play ( I thought he was dead on the one hit he took).

I for one am super excited about Sunday night, I really think this team can compete with anyone in the league.

This needed to be clarified :lmao:

 thanks, between the constant onslaught of booze and TD's my memory is a bit hazy.

I still don't care for Vick as a person but, as a football player, he's exceeding all expectations and than some. I was wrong about him in that regard.

 100% agree. Funny thing is, I still have serious  for Kevin Kolb....kid's a very good Qb in his own right. Gonna be interesting to see how it all plays out, but I sincerely hope that Kolb gets a legit shot in the NFL on a legit playoff contending team, whether that's in Philly or elsewhere.

Well, I know they're trying to extend Vick now. IMO, that means Kolb is a goner this off-season.

At this rate, I'm pretty excited about the HAUL we're likely to get from someone for Kolb this offseason. :lmao:
The Eagles aren't going to trade Kolb this offseason. His extension he signed only calls for him to make 1.5 Million in 2011. The Eagles will keep him as the backup in my opinion.

Still a Kolb fan here, but unless another team blows the doors off of Philly with a good offer, I think Kolb is back. Schefter said he thought it would take a 1st and a 3rd, and Philly may not even say yes to that.Kolb is cheap next year - under 3M for sure. Giving Vick 12-15M worth of $ next year could certainly keep both for another season.

I know Kolb has been patient and saying all the right things, but everyone's patience runs out. I would have to think if Vick gets a 5 year deal (just an example), then Kolb would start asking for a trade. Dude wants to start and has shown he can start. Not that the Eagles would have to trade him, but why not get great value instead of letting him walk a year later just to back up Vick?

yeah, if they lock up Vick for the next 5 years and a team comes along with an offer comparable to what Schefter was saying, I don't see how they don't make the trade. I'd be surprised to see an offer like that (I believe he said the Eagles would be looking to START talking at a 1 and a 3). crazy, but who knows

whats going on eagles fans?

I have followed this thread(and others from previous years) for a long time and just wanted to finally post. Always some good info and opinions in here. This year has surprised me more than any other I have followed(been following the eagles pretty hardcore since the mid 90s or so).

I still dont know how far the eagles can go this year; the offense is very potent, but the defense is a work in progress. This giants game will go a long way in seeing where we stand in the NFC this year as I think the giants are top 3 in the conference. But you have to give Reid a TON of credit for rebuilding this squad in such a short period of time. Its such a young group with great upside. Anyways, lets take it to the giants and protect the home field! :towelwave:

I keep thinking Cleveland will come along with a nice offer since they have that relationship, but I have no idea how McCoy has been for them and if they still feel they need a QB of the future.

I think this is right if they lock up Vick to a long term deal. The question as to whether they deal Kolb this year or next, I think depends on how close to winning it all they think they are next year. If they think the defense has progressed enough and they think they are going to be SB contenders from the beginning of the season, then I think you keep Kolb as back-up next season (to preserve the season should Vick get injured) and let him leave via free agency. If there are still major holes going into next season, then I think you try to deal Kolb (for the right price) to add pieces for a SB run the following year.

Am I alone in wondering why Vick would want to extend with us if he's not going to be the highest paid player in the league or very close to it? With his financial situation being what it is I can't see why he wouldn't want to hit FA

Especially with an Al Davis lurking.

If he's smart, he stays with the Eagles even if it means giving them a bit of a hometown discount. The team is young and uber-talented on offense. For the first time in his career, he has legitimate deep threats. He's also got great coaching and a system that he's a perfect fit for. If winning and maintaining success on the field is at all important to him, I just can't see why he would want to go anywhere else.

If he doesn't extend with us he gets tagged and has to wait another year for a long term deal and a pay day.

yep, they'll franchise him before he can ever sniff talking to another team. Not that I think it will come to that.

I don't care how, I don't care who, I don't care about anything that got them there....

but they are 7-3, 2-1 in the division and tied atop the NFC East, and only one game away from being atop the entire conference, with a tiebreak over ATL.

They are actually in 1st place in the NFC East (Giants are 6-4/Skins are 5-5/Cowgirls are 3-7)

Before the season I thought they would be lucky to have 5 wins by now. Granted that was with Kolb @ QB and the other issues. It is pretty fun watching this team with Vick @ QB. As for Kolb, I think they do trade him. Hanging onto him for another year I think would lower his trade value alot. You also have to look into what QBs are coming out next season and the season after that to get a gauge on things. I think if they can get a 1st & 3rd/4th or a 2nd/3rd +..i can see them moving him. It would be a huge waste to keep the guy when you can get some high round picks for him....which will be needed because face it, they still need Oline help. I can also see them trying to replace Mikel

OL, CB, S in that order.

What are the chances that they don't resign Vick and instead roll with Kolb next year? Yes, Vick looks great, but I think it's more a product of the offensive system and weapons he has to work with. Kolb looked very solid in his short starting stint this season. I'd much rather have Kolb the next few years over Vick, but I'm sure I'm in the minority.

I think the chances of that are very remote, unless Vick has a total meltdown at the end of this season. Even last night, when Vick struggled with whatthe Giants were throwing at him, he only made one big mistake (his fumble where he didn't protect the ball). He made some big throws last night and had one sure TD dropped (Avant) and another possible TD dropped (Desean). I think Kevin struggled enough in his playing time this year, that the Eagles would pass on Kevin based on what Vick has done this year. If they trade Kolb, they will still need to get a reliable back-up, because Vick takes way too many hard hits. But in terms of maximizing team value, you trade Kolb for draft picks and you sign a FA back-up.
