*** Official 2010 Philadelphia Eagles Thread *** (2 Viewers)

I was curious this morning, so I flipped on WIP. Cataldi makes me want to puke.Putting together the Dirty 30 again to boo McNabb when he plays Philly? Really?!?
I feel you DH. I made that mistake last night, and it inflamed my rage. Just nonsense after nonsense.
It was great day when I decided to stop listening to that station.
I generally don't, but I was curious as to what the morons and mouth breathers were saying. They exceeded my already low expectations.

Here's another from the Washington Post:Daniel Snyder can bring in a new regime. The owner can say he's ceding authority in football decisions to Mike Shanahan and Bruce Allen like never before. But the delusion ultimately continues.

They still are in the business of selling hope more than harsh truth, hyperbole more than reality.

The Redskins still want their gullible congregation to believe they're one player away from NFL nirvana, and a 33-year-old, 11-year veteran given up by a team in their own division is that player.

Angelo isn't even a true Philly fan (even though he's lived here for a long time). Isn't he a transplant from NY? Regardless, his main goal in life is to just constantly rip the Philly organizations and athletes. He was the biggest Phillies critic (especially Charlie Manuen) in town until they won the World Series. Now all of a sudden he's a huge Phillies supporter. What a joke. I'm not even a Philly sports fan but the guy embarasses me.....

I know he's a Yankees fan and grew up in the New England area (not sure which state).

Come on Deranged, you know Cataldi is an embarassment and identifies with the clowns. The only opinions I respect on that station when it come to the Eagles is Didinger and Anthony Gargano. Even with Gargano, it took me sometime to realize that behind the dumb shctick is a guy who knows his Birds football. This move had to be down for the city, the fanbase for Donovan and most importantly for the franchise. The entire roster is under 30 with dynamic skill position players that are practically babies. If they build this defense up in the next year or two, they'll be right back. I'm now very excited for this new look team. Again, I don't know how anyone could have digested another year of McNabb after everything we been through.

hes more of a comedian than anything else and actually is funny a lot of the time. sometimes goes over the line but thats sort of to be expected with any comedian.

I did the same thing as I was driving my kids to daycare - i nearly puked in my coffee cup. Haven't those 31 clowns caused enough trouble for the reputation of this city?I was so enraged he had the nerve to reassemble this mistake I was in my right mind to call sports radio for the first time and rip Angelo a new one... found it easier to turn him off instead...

I can only hope that should this actually come together - that those 30 idiots are drown out by 1000's of people coming out to support #5 and say thanks for what he has done for Philly. That is of course until the game starts! The whole idea is just disgusting to me. Why again is our fanbase identified by the national media as classless? That radio station once again trying to put the morons front center stage to misrepresent the city. Have a little class and show some respect for the guy - really 610, you can even be happy about the decision without acting like a bunch of fools.

Tommy Lawlor:

Donovan McNabb is a Washington Redskin. How bizarre does that sound? We got the 37th overall pick and a conditional pick in 2011 (3rd or 4th round). This was not the best offer. I was told a couple weeks back that Andy Reid was genuinely concerned about Donovan and his future. Andy became coach of the Eagles in January 1999. He picked Donovan 3 months later and the two have been together ever since. Donnie isn't just "another guy". Apparently Andy wasn't going to ship McNabb to the highest bidder, but rather to a team that Donovan was comfortable with, at a price we could be comfortable with. I have mixed feelings about this line of thinking. Andy's got to be focused on what is best for the organization, first and foremost. At the same time, I've always appreciated the fact that Andy does have good relationships with his players. And Donovan is special to us. This organization was down in the dumps when he arrived. He brought us success on the field and credibility off it. I don't think we "owed" Donovan anything, but I won't argue with Andy doing right by his guy. I know one team we talked to was so confused by Andy's demands that they came away wondering if we actually had any interest in dealing Donovan. Another team was prepared to offer a good player, but neither of these situations was going to be ideal for Donovan. Andy passed. We settled for an acceptable offer, but it was hardly ideal. In the end I'm very excited. We now have resolution to the McNabb saga. We also now officially begin the Kolb era. There will be some ups and downs, but I believe in Kevin Kolb, just as I believed in McNabb over a decade ago. I think we go from one good starting QB to another. I think we'll win a lot of games with Kevin. We can only hope we have the same level of success as the past decade. As for the angle of dealing Donovan to a division rival...I'm okay with that. There are only 31 other NFL teams. I would have objected if I thought Washington was a QB away from being a Super Bowl team. McNabb makes them better, but that is a team in transition and will likely need at least a year to get things together. At that point Donovan will be 34 going on 35. I won't get into the pick and what it means too much. We now have 8 picks in the first 5 rounds. We can add some young talent and fill some holes. I'll write more later. Crazy night.

More stuff... corresponds to what GKing said

Trust me when I tell you that the players are excited about getting Kevin on the field. There were multiple starting players who preferred Kevin as the starter in 2010. Most interesting is that they don't fit any one group. Some were on O, some D. Some young, some old. Some black, some white. Kevin is a gym rat. I think players see his work ethic, focus, and competitive nature and feed off that. I wish I could get into specifics, but trust me that there are a lot of happy players today. No one was anti-McNabb or anything like that. Donovan is still Donovan. I just think guys see some Tom Brady type qualities in Kolb. I am not saying Kevin will be anywhere near that good, but he could be the same style of player. Donovan was never going to head-butt an offensive lineman. Donovan was never going to get in a guy's face and really hold him accountable. That's not his style. Kolb will be more of a vocal, aggressive leader.

Just watched the interview with Kevin. I am PUMPED for next season. I think this guy has all the intangibles.
I know he's proven nothing, but its funny how everyone just assumes the Eagles are giving up on '10 and Kolb's a downgrade over McNabb. Maybe he proves to be the better option. As far as I know, no one on this board has scouted Kolb or seen him in practice every day like Reid and the coaching staff.

Sadly a good amount of of this crowd make up the fan base, at least the ones that the media talk aboutI think i seen a article in the Metro that Cataldi writes and he labels himself "the voice of the fans"

I just hope that when Mc5 returns to the Linc he gets the ovation (standing "O") he deserves.....

Then it's game on!

Just to add to it:DeSean: It's a relief

The Eagles have had a lot of turnover this off-season, mostly discarding older players for younger ones. Guard Todd Herremans said that he thought the team now had a certain swagger about it. Jackson reiterated that sentiment.

"I see us as the young guns, coming in and taking advantage of a lot of geat opportunities in Philadelphia," Jackson said. "We're here for the long haul."

Jackson, Herremans, tight end Brent Celek and wide receiver Jeremy Maclin said that they didn't think the younger Eagles would have to naturally take a step back next season. Jackson said that the young core group of offensive players would be "able to relate to each other" more under Kolb.

http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/eagles...s_a_relief.html

Can we start the rumor now?Plan B for the Raiders... trade for Mike Vick!
I'd love for this to happen, and as someone else mentioned, this would still make a lot of sense for the Raiders. I think we need to ink Kolb to an extension 1st, though - I'm hoping that part will be worked out soon.

After hearing this, I flipped on WIP this morning. Angelo was still trying to get people together, but he was having a hard time of it. He has had multiple people turn him down, including Shawn, the leader of the Dirty 30. He has only been able to get 14 of the 30 together for this. It is a disgrace, but at least it was nice to see that even his own groupies weren't behind him on this one.

Back prior to the draft where the Eagles took McNabb, there was debate in the city as to whether they should take him or a RB (Ricky Williams). Even the then-mayor of Phila (now governor of PA) Ed Rendell was publicly asking for Williams. The local sports talk station (610 WIP) led by their morning host Angelo Cataldi got a group of 30 Eagles "fans" to go to the draft. These people were basically selected on how loud and obnoxious they could be and if they had some sort of "in" already with the station. The goal was to boo the seemingly apparent selection of McNabb. These guys became known as the "dirty 30." McNabb was picked, they all booed and got on TV doing it. Ever since then pretty much any story about Donovan that talks about his history in Philly brings this up and the video is shown if it is aired on TV.The fact is that most fans in Philly were pretty excited to have a new QB come in after the ones we had seen prior (Peete, Hoying, etc). We thought Donovan looked like a very talented player and wanted someone of his caliber on the team. It seems that Donovan took this incident very personally and never really got over it. Additionally, the media took these 30 morons to be the example of the city's sentiment, so that broad brush has been painting the fans of Broad Street ever since.

Only in Philadelphia can a guy like Angelo Cataldi have a job on sports talk radio. Not sure if the natives truly realize how bad he makes their city look.

The prevelant thought at the time was to either take Ricky Williams or trade with NO for all their picks in '99 and a 1st and 3rd in '00. I actually think the Eagles missed the boat on that one as they were a rebuilding team and had a ton of holes that could have been filled with all those picks, plus there was still a chance that they could have traded back up (a la what Washington did) and still got McNabb.

It makes me physically ill whenever I think about how good this team would have been in the early 00's if they had traded with NO

Sports Illustrated's Peter King reports that the Eagles are now targeting Florida Gators icon Tim Tebow.

I have heard the Eagles will now focus on Tebow and are likely to join the parade of teams working him out and spending time with him. With seven picks in the first four rounds, Philadelphia has the ammo to go get the developmental quarterback Reid always likes to have on his roster. So don't think they won't be in play for one of these players.

http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/sports...d-89988642.html

I'm all for bringing him in for a look just to do your homework, but targeting? With all the needs on the defensive side of the ball, I might throw up a little if they take him in the 1st or 2nd round.

ETA: OK 1st would be an absolute reach, but 2nd or even 3rd round would be terrible.

Yes, imagine how many extra Barry Gardners, Doug Brzezinskis, John Welbourns, Damon Moores, and Na Browns we could have gotten with those picks in the 99 draft. (Of course, the #2 overall in '00 would have been nice but probably would have ended up with Pennington at QB or something.)

Maybe they will move him to safety along with all the other guys they have tried there.Bet he could play a little OLB

They probably wouldn't have taken Pennington if they stayed at 2. I would put a guess on Samuels since they love their linemen.Their 3rd round pick probably would have been Mark Simoneau.

If they don't use all of their five picks in the first three rounds on OL and Defense, I will be a bit confused no doubt. They're saying Tebow is Round 2 material. I can't beleive they go QB there.
Tebow is now being projected as 2nd/3rd round pick. If the Eagles take him there it would be terrible.I really wasn't sure what Jason's :) was referring to. Its such awesome analysis.

Philly will be adding another QB, obviously. If Tebow were to slip to the middle of the third round, I'd have no problem with that. We would have already selected at least two, and probably three players at higher need positions were that to happen, and I'm not a big fan of using late round picks on a player that almost has to make the roster. (Other then a kicker type, obviously)

Early second round? :goodposting: Can't see that at all. THAT would be something to get upset about.

they're gonna pick a QB in the first 3 rounds - we need a backup - Vick isn't gonna be around for long, next year we'll want someone with a year in the system at least...

Yeah no doubt they add at least a mid to late round QB in the draft and possibly a veteran FA. But the title about "targeting Tebow" was a bit surprising (if not downright upsetting!). And I know this time of year teams flat out lie and leak stories to reporters.

Amused - I think they're going to bring in a veteran to backup Kolb, when things get rough he's going to need talk to someone that has been in the trenches before instead of someone who intiated dog rapes. Would love to see Garcia back here or maybe Brunell.

I think they will draft similar to what they did in 2002 this year (at least at first....) CB, S, CB.... and let's hope it turns out as good as Sheppard, Lewis, Brown.....

Wyche adds that the 37th selection adds another dimension to the draft, saying it “allows [them] to nab another impact prospect with the McNabb pick. Might it be a QB? [Colt] McCoy, [Tim] Tebow, Tony Pike? What an irony that would be.”Wyche isn’t the only one to mention the Eagles and Tebow in the same sentence. In his mock draft, Nolan Nawrocki of Pro Football Weekly predicts the Eagles to take the quarterback from Florida with the 24th overall pick.

I'm going to assume all this Tebow early talk is just noise. I HAVE to assume that, for my own sanity.

I don't have ANY problem with them taking another QB, even in the first three rounds. But I do have a problem with that QB being Tim Tebow.

Why? No offense but I have alot more confidence in Andy Reid and Marty M to be able to break down countless hours of tape and scouting reports on a QB prospect then you. The guy only groomed Brett Farve and Donovan McNabb. I mean the bible quotes on the eye patches are pure hack, but that's just one personal opinion - he panders to the bible belt hayceed crowd, thats a given at this point.

Except there AREN'T countless hours of tape on Tebow as a passing quarterback. Unless they want to put his Pro Day on continuous loop. :goodposting:

Tebow only threw 995 passes in college.Compared to what 893 for Bradford or 1110 for Clausen.
