No. He is too small, but could easily see NA convert to S in his latter years. He instantly becomes one of the smartest players on our team and could easily QB the defense.any chance Asante can make a move to safety ala Charles Woodson?
Careful, his intentional jinxes like this one have a pretty good conversion rate.'cobalt_27 said:@sportsguy33: Vegas just announced it will no longer take Eagles Super Bowl bets, saying, "We don't accept action on sure things. Sorry."
And this is one of the best things about all of the moves they have made. Sure, it looks like the are "all in" for this year. That type of expression typically implies that something in the future is being given up to win now. Maybe the best part is that absolutely none of these moves are putting the team in a bad situation for the future and they have actually stacked picks for next years draft with 6 picks in the first 4 rounds. They sure aren't getting a trophy for winning the off season this year, but I cant' think of a better way to get excited for this season!'Bigboy10182000 said:We now have two 2s, two 4s, two 5s and two 6s in 2012 draft.
I would drive Asante to the airport if a 1 were offered. There is a time and a place where it makes sense to just keep your asset. Having three top end corners is not a luxury any longer - it's a must to play strong defense in the NFL these days. The Jets know that, and that's why they wanted Nnamdi or Cromartie (who they might still get?).Keep all 3 corners, please.I would drive Asante to the airport if a 1 were offered. I have been reading that Asante no longer fits their defensive scheme since he is more of a zone corner and will not do as well in their man to man coverage. There is a time and a place where it makes sense to just keep your asset. Joe Banner was on Philly radio tonight asked if they have room left for more moves, and he said, "HELL YEAH."Where are they getting all of this money?![]()
I can't imagine he'll be an issue, unless he wants #1 WR money. He without question deserves a bump in salary though. Sal Pal said in Jackson's case, if he doesn't report by 8/27 then be loses a whole year of eligibility. I had no idea it was that early but he'll be there sooner rather then later I would think. With all of these moves it makes me wonder if they redo Vick or not....need to use what they have left to get desean on the field.
From what I'm reading he's not a power blocker, more of an athletic pulling guard. Reports on him were that he was a very underrated player. They signed Evan Mathis today who's a guard, I don't know much about him but hopefully they add another OL.*edit*Per profootballfocus twitter:Evan Mathis has played 724 snaps over the past 2 seasons and allowed 0 sacks. Also been a fine run blocker
Editor's Note: Joe will be breaking down different Bengals players in scouting reports, judging their strengths, weaknesses and giving his overall impression, starting with guys who could possibly be leaving the team when the lockout ends and free agency begins. Keep an eye out for more scouting reports that will be coming soon.Strengths: Mathis is a long, lean and athletic offensive lineman who could play any position in a pinch, although his best position is guard. He plays smart and can handle the opponent with good technique and leverage. Mathis is a good pulling guard and has good vision in the second level to find linebackers to hit. Overall he is a very consistent player.Weaknesses: Just about the only weakness in Mathis' game is that he's not much of a power guard, but that's not his game. With the help of his center, Kyle Cook, the two can keep the power defensive tackles away from the quarterback. I should note that I've seen him lose his temper ont he field and take an unnecessary personal foul penalty. Off the field, Mathis call it how he sees it. As fans, we love that, but I assume the Bengals front office may not.Overall Impression: Every time Mathis entered the game, you could sense the difference in the offensive line's play as an entire unit. The entire line was more athletic, didn't have as many false starts and seemed to have more confidence when it was Evan's turn to play. I don't know why he wasn't the full-time starting left guard. He was superior to Nate Livings in almost every facet of the game. Most fans would love for him to return in 2011, but I don't think the Bengals value (or don't know his value) enough to offer him a fair salary. Mathis has played like a starter in the NFL and it's a shame that it hasn't worked in Cincinnati.
Reports are they traded Kevin Kolb a few days ago, too.Keep us posted if you hear anything new!

Great find on the article. Looks like we overhauled the guard position this offseason - should lead to a better overall O-line, as long as there is enough time for these new pieces to gel. Peters and Justice still on the outside but the middle is very much in transition. Of course, I wouldn't be shocked if we added Jake Long by the time I get back from the driving range. Here's the write up I read:

Sounds like good insurance until Watkins gets signed and up to speed. I've also been seeing a lot of blurbs recently that it's possible Mudd might move Herremans to RT, though - starting to wonder if there's any truth to it...They signed Evan Mathis today who's a guard, I don't know much about him but hopefully they add another OL.*edit*Per profootballfocus twitter:Evan Mathis has played 724 snaps over the past 2 seasons and allowed 0 sacks. I only have had 2 cups of coffee
the sun was in my eyes
ah hell
I think some attitude and aggression is a good thing on the OL so long as the penalties are kept in check - that's one of the things that I think the line has really been lacking since we lost Runyan. It's also one of the things I liked about the Watkins pick. The reports I read on him stated that's one of the characteristics that he possesses as well.I should note that I've seen him lose his temper on the field and take an unnecessary personal foul penalty. I've been thinking the same thing. Aso and DRC can handle man coverage a little better, freeing the rest to smear the QB.That said, it may not be Asante's strong suit, but he's no slouch. Just because his style is better suited to a zone scheme doesn't mean he can't be (at times very) effective with more man coverage. With the WR's Dallas and NY have, I'd rather keep him unless somenoe offers an absolute bounty of riches (a strong starting caliber LB and a 2nd, or something along those lines.I have been reading that Asante no longer fits their defensive scheme since he is more of a zone corner and will not do as well in their man to man coverage. There is a time and a place where it makes sense to just keep your asset. I caught that presser too. What a class act! I had no idea he was that classy and articulate as well. The guy wants to pursue an acting career after. I think he just became my favorite Eagle since Dawkins! Some blurbs from Nnamdi's press conference today:-The Eagles were his 1st choice all along.-Vick recruited him at the Pro-Bowl and Desean was calling/texting him all summer.-The Eagles weren't in the bidding right away, but once they got involved they were aggresssive.-He left money on the table but said he wanted to go to a team that was the right fit for him.-Is letting Hanson keep #21 since Hanson said the # was important to him. Nnamdi said no big deal, only a #, and is gonna wear 24.-Said he's excited about playing with Assante and DRC. Said it shouldn't be a problem for his style to mix with Assante's...said he'll "make it work"-The Eagles have a winning feel about the organization and he loves it and it's something he was seeking. He's a really humble and bright guy. I'm psyched to have him on our squad. Can't believe that this time last yaer I thought we were in rebuilding mode and now we're legit SB contenders. Props to Andy, Howie and Banner.
Unless I missed something, Eagles did not resign Dimitri Patterson.Don't go rushing out to buy those Asomugha #24 jerseys just yet... if Curtis Marsh looks legit in camp and Patterson has improved at all, I'm guessing that #21 may yet become available.
My mistake, I meant Lindley. If the young guys look good, I would expect Hanson to be dealt or released. nice to read this part of the report from rotoworld:"Agent Drew Rosenhaus suggested two months ago that he's learned not to force the Eagles' hand with a public standoff."Hearing reports that DJ is ending the holdout and reporting to camp in 1-2 days.ETA: hearing reports = reading online
yeah he does. he has zero leverage. hope the eagles do the right thing and pay the man. if they dont, if i were him, i wouldnt sign with them for any amount of money at seasons end.Ya, he has to.
Good to see Drew learning and adapting. He's good at what he does. Yea he's got an ego but he gets his players paid. No sense in forcing public sentiment against his client this time.nice to read this part of the report from rotoworld:"Agent Drew Rosenhaus suggested two months ago that he's learned not to force the Eagles' hand with a public standoff."Hearing reports that DJ is ending the holdout and reporting to camp in 1-2 days.ETA: hearing reports = reading online

If the player doesn't like a contract, he shouldn't sign it. You act as if the players have some kind of power in the NFL. They don't. Even a holdout has very little leverage. Its more of reminder that they aren't happy and would like to be paid. Ultimately, the player and the agent know that they have little recourse for forcing a new contract. Honoring it is a ridiculous notion. Players are basically year to year employees that stay as long as the team needs them or its too costly to get rid of them. As for negotiating it in the CBA, that will NEVER happen. Not just because they just finished a 10 year agreement but because its an understood pillar of the NFL that there are no guaranteed contracts. If the players tried to argue for them, they would be stonewalled. Owenrs would be unanimous in their stance against it.If the player doesn't like a contract, he shouldn't sign it. Absolutely agree. I am actually going through a 'holdout' of my own with my employer. I know I am underpaid and could get more elsewhere. I told them this morning give me a raise or I am gone. Whether holding out is right or not, Desean needs to get paid. Honoring his contract is a joke at this point. If you feel you're underpaid at your work compared to the level of accomplishment you bring, you speak to your boss about it. If they have any business sense, they give you a raise to keep you happy or else you goto a competitor.
I'm well aware of how NFL contracts work. But in the last negotiations, the players did have leverage. The owners were not allowed to use replacement players so it was either them or nothing. If non-guarenteed contracts are a pillar of the NFL, then the players get what they deserve in terms of being underpaid. The NFL owners raped the players with respect to holdout in the new CBA.You act as if the players have some kind of power in the NFL. They don't. Even a holdout has very little leverage. Thanks, Bankerguy. Hopefully all the new acquisitions perform on the field the way us Eagle's fans hope. After all, Off-season Championshipsare nice, but we would like a really championship to celebrate.BTW, do you think Jerry Jones will recover from losing Aso to the Eagles?Eagles are having a stunning offseason. Unfortunately, you look like the team to beat in the East and likely the entire NFC. Nice job.
I'm glad I'm thinking along the right lines. Thanks for the info, DH.Let's try this again, third time's a charm hopefully:
1. Vick's extension is close. In fact, I would expect it to be announced very soon. DeSean's will get done, but it's not nearly as close. My opinion is that one is tied to another. No way Vick's cap number will be as high as it is now for this year and a lot of that money saved will go to Jackson.2. Expect some LBs in here sooner than later as 'they're not happy with the depth at the position' (my retort was 'yeah, no kidding. I couldn't name three LB on the team much less three starting ones').
3. You know what they said about Samuel not going anywhere. Yeah....don't believe it. If they get the right deal, he's gone. They've talked to three teams already (he was hush, hush on the teams).
4. Look for MJG to be back soon for some O-line depth. I'm frankly shocked it hasn't happened yet.
I know I'm being greedy now, but I'd hoping they bring in Lofa Tatupu in for a look2. Expect some LBs in here sooner than later as 'they're not happy with the depth at the position' (my retort was 'yeah, no kidding. I couldn't name three LB on the team much less three starting ones').
