***Official 2011 Philadelphia Eagles Thread*** (1 Viewer)

Great offseason for Philly. The Eagles are clearly the favorites to win the East and I'd say 2nd in line behind the Packers in odds to get to the SB in the NFC. Who's the backup QB in Philly?
Kafka is looking good but Young was brought in to be the backup.
who said that? Roseman specifically said that bringing in VY wasn't a knock on Kafka and they would battle for the #2 spot throughout camp

Per RW, Eagles sign RT Ryan Harris to a 1 year deal.
Another great value signing. Started 34 games as a pro already and is only 25. Finesse blocker that sounds like a perfect fit for Mudd's scheme. Say hello to the new starting RT. Peters/Herremans/Jackson/Watkins/Harris - will take it.

Of the 9 Eagles acquisitions, five are former No. 1s, two former No. 3s, a No. 5 and undrafted Cullen Jenkins.

This was from John Clayton via twitter

I had several friends text me that there are rumors of the Eagles trading Samuel + for Patrick Willis. Anyone hearing this anywhere besides WIP? I am guessing this is where its coming from.

it sounds more like the media driving that then the Eagles. SF would be hard pressed to give up the face of their defense, and the Eagles have not put a lot of emphasis on the MLB position in their defensive schemes. I can't see Juan Castillo changing too much of the defensive scheme, and certainly Willis would be beneficial to the team, but I just don't think it would help the Eagles as much as the fans think. I love Willis, but it seems like it would be a silly trade for the Eagles to make. Keeping their current secondary intact will help a lot when they have to face the Saints and Packers, and probably half the other teams in the NFC too.

What an awesome day. We get three quality players on the CHEAP, that all have lots of starting experience but will be asked to play complementary roles with us. In a league where depth is so hard to come by, we're now building it at almost every position. What's also stunning is that several of these players took less money to play for us...Nnamdi had higher offers (not that we're not paying him a lot mind you), Ronnie Brown had three better offers, Harris supposedly had a better off with multiple years.

So awesome.

And I know the media is making this about Michael Vick. But it's not really about Vick. It's about Reid. Vick's story, and his constant praising of how Andy took a chance on him and turned his career around, has become almost the stuff of legend.

No fing way...
yeah, especially after they lost Spikes. Didn't they just sign Willis to a monster extension last year? no way they would move him
I agree - I doubt that this is in the works.I still think the Lions are a great trade partner, as they were in the market for a CB and they seem to have a good # of LBs now after signing both Durant and Tulloch. If Asante is traded for Levy that's a win-win (or a Philly steal).

The amount of abuse AR takes in this town has always amazed me. While he may not be the best game day coach, he is right there with BB as the top coach in the NFL. He has coached numerous QBs under the packers and eagles that have been traded for high draft picks and has shown he can win with some mediocre talent on offense. The Eagles front office (who also was always bashed) is really not doing anything different than before. When their is available talent, they go get it. The difference this year is that there was quite a bit of talent available to go get. Hopefully this team can gel and Eagles fans will be treated to one of those seasons we wont soon forget.

Just wanted to add this :

AdamSchefter Adam Schefter "It's to the point now where the remaining free agents want to go to Philadelphia -- and are willing to take less to do it."

Trevor Laws down with a knee and Mike Patterson down with convulsions.

Tweets:

Mike Patterson just hit the ground hard in linemen drills and is shaking on the ground. This doesn't look good. Stay tuned.

Patterson has three team medics around him.Trent Cole looked ticked off and yelled at someone.

Patterson's legs are moving. Good sign, maybe? Juqua Parker looks shaken up by the sight.

Patterson is conscious, moving arms, cart is waiting but Rick Burkholder just stabilizing Patterson's head.

Watkins trying hard to help, no doubt tapping into his experience with emergencies as a firefighter.

Yeah, and now we're back to football. The one thing that we have to remember is that injuries are not only a part of the game, but inevitable. I sure hope Patterson is alright, those convulsions sound worrisome. :(

Sounds like he had a grand mal seizure to me.

What do you guys know about the 2nd round pick Jarrett? My BIL played HS football with him and I remember watching him thinking he was pretty good then but never thought of him as an NFL prospect. Doesnt even look like he got any Div I offers out of HS. Pretty nice story.

Any chance you can elaborate on that please? I'm a medical dum-dum. I sure hope he's OK.

Just a quick aside first: I have no inside info as to what happened. This was my opinion from the description. Anyway, a grand mal seizure isn't as serious as it sounds. I have them and they can be easily treated with medicine. I literally went 11 years without having one before I got lax in taking my meds and had one two years ago. Of course the severity wildly varies, but if this is the first one he's ever had, it could just be a side effect of any prescription medicine he might be taking (or something like 'diet' pills).

Looks like Patterson is OK, he was massively dehydrated.

The Moss offer is interesting. I assumed we were one of the teams that made him an offer already. His agent said he had multiple offers but that none were to Randy's liking. I don't know that it was confirmed, but several pundits suggested Moss had multi-year deals from non-contenders and all the top tier teams that were interested (Jets, Pats, Eagles, and probably a few others) all gave him incentive-laden one-year offers, which he balked at.

So if this post-retirement offer is true, I wonder if it's a) indicative that we never were in on him initially or b) a 2-year deal?

PFT is saying there are message board rumors that Jeremy Maclin may have lymphoma. Anyone hear anything on this?
That sounds like a baseless assumption. I doubt the guy would be in camp if it was the case. I'm suprised someone would run with a rumor from a messageboard.

Patterson: AVM (arteriovenous malformation). It's a congenital condition, but he's gotta' be out for the year with surgery or, perhaps, radiation.

Hate to hear that happen to a guy, but likely was the primary contributing factor to his seizure.

That sucks. I'm sure he was excited about this year but hopefully he takes the time off and stays healthy. Even if he never plays again, he hopefully saved up enough to live a decent life.Official Link

Yeah, the seizure may have been the best thing for him. Prompted a CT and MRI that detected the AVM, which...gone undetected could have hemorrhaged at some point. Wish him well.

If they put Patterson in IR, does that free up his cap space for this year?

i agree. we know of Patterson's condition because he released his information, but the privacy laws (e.g. HIPPA, etc.) in PA pretty much guarantee we won't know the situation unless Maclin wants to releaseETA: actually the PA laws have nothing to do with it, but it makes sense with the way the Eagles have been so secretive about it, that there will be a statement from the Eagles and Maclin if anything wants to be released to the general public

the DL as a whole is getting really banged up, maybe the new approach by Washburn should ease up a bit:(from rotoworld): Free agent DE Victor Abiamiri has a torn ACL, according to 610 WIP's Howard Eskin.

When does Victor Abiamiri not go on the DL?

Sucks for him(again..)but it will make it easier to make cuts with him out of the mix.

Injuries happen guys, that's nothing new.

Abiamiri wasn't being counted on this year, he was very likely to get cut once we got down to the 53-man. But Patterson and Dixon were going to be our starters, so... :(

We have a ton of ends in camp (Parker, Jenkins, Babin, Cole, Tapp, Hunt, Te'o-Nesheim) but at tackle all we have right now are Laws and Thornton, right?

Pretty sure Cullen is a DT.

So are the two guys they just signed, Hargrove and Landri.

He's played both, but you're right in that we signed him to play inside most of the time.
