***Official 2011 Philadelphia Eagles Thread*** (1 Viewer)

6 years,(5 plus 1) 63 million; 21mil garaunteed.

Thanks guys for all the props. Lots of info had to be kept quiet and thanks for understanding. Although, it's been fun keeping a few of you guys in the loop thru PM's and text. Much respect to Pasq, JetMaxx, Polish Hammer, Scratcher, B.Nug and the others for keeping our private talks- private.

I'm off to the AZ threads but something tells me I will still be talking Eagle insight with you guys here from time to time.

Peace,

JG
They have a thread???

what in the hell is wrong with michael irvin? seriously.

"Rich, I'm not saying that your point of view is not a point of view."

Now looks like he's about to murder everyone while re-hashing the Javon Walker-GB holdout.

Giants signed a punter that can kick out of bounds. Take that. :tumbleweed: :kicksrock:
:lmao: good stuff.I got all excited hearing the news when i got home from walking the dogs, loaded some cash on the Eagles to win the Super Bowl at +1200, and then I turn on NFL network to hear about it and i get to hear Michael Irvin yelling and scraming for D-Jax :wall: . Who in the world is in charge of these networks and thinks it is a good idea to have this fool on.

The Eagles have really struggled of late to get off of the field on 3rd down and stop the good passing teams. Dallas with Witten/Austin/Bryant. The Giants with Nicks/SSmith/Manningham/Boss (yes, Boss). Green Bay. Teams that can force nickel defense and convert on third and long are tough to beat.

So now how do you do it? Get 3 strong corners and try and come up with a better pass rush. If Babin steps up on the other side of Trent Cole then yes, they are quite a defense now. Juan Castillo might look like a very good DC in a very short time.

Perhaps the same fools who think Irvin should have a radio show in Dallas?Or the fools who think that Howard Eskin is clued in to the Eagles? (Or has a clue at all)?

Dear Andy,

Please don't trade Samuel unless you are getting wicked value out of the deal. After watching Hobbs/Patterson/Hanson last year it will be really nice having three good corners.

Yes this is a passing league and it is a great move and I applaud the Eagles for the moves so far this off-season. But they still need help on defenseRemember the Packers ran all over the Eagles with Starks in the playoff game. They still can't stop the run. Plus who are the linebackers on this team?? Casey Mathews is our starting MLB? Need to get a run stopping DT.

Wow that's a lot to give up. I was kinda hoping for kolb but not at the expense of basically a 1st and 2nd
I didn't realize that DRC was in the last year of his deal. A lot of people were calling it highway robbery, and I think they are overreacting. Arizona is getting a guy who has had success in this league and has those leadership qualities. His success will be highly dependent on their ability to pass protect, but he's got potential that is worth a 2nd round pick and a player that might not have been in your long term plans.

He's not. He has 2 years left.

While stopping the run may be an issue, NA is great in run support and methinks with our offense, teams will be passing a lot to catch up. Just a thought :hophead:

Congrats on signing the new Charles Woodson. Nnamdi is not as good as Chuck was in run support or as much of a ball hawk, but he's the best there is in pure coverage and more durable than CWood. And you are getting him in his prime. He should make a fantastic addition to your team.

I now really feel we are going back to the Super Bowl this year. Feels just like 04 to me. Sure there are some areas to strengthen but I forsee lots of fun in 2011. It really seems my team is as fed up as I am with no Lombardi.

Heard a report that Vince Young's 1-year deal is for $5 million. Seems a little steep for a backup QB- who exactly were they bidding against?

I hope there are legs to the Jets - Asante rumors... maybe get David Harris ?

Thanks for clarifying, Schefter cited that as a reason that they were targeting Nnamdi, and I thought it sounded odd. I was wondering how they were planning on locking up DRC, Djax and Vick.

Sooooooo giddy. Didn't see this coming after DRC and the TOTAL lack of chatter about us being in the bidding.

With Asante not being in camp, I wonder if we are moving on? I hope not, Samuel is a playmaker.

Agreed. But considering the dirth of playmakers, was he the best looking girl in the trailer park? Can you win with him in light of what has been acquired or does he represent more value in what he could attain? I find it ironic that with the reports of more Cover 2, he is a better fit in that scheme than the 2 CBs that were acquired.

Here's the thing I don't quite get - the Eagles haven't defined their defense yet. They have a new DC who hasn't done the job - ever - and they're still putting personnel together. All we really know is that they'll be in a 4-3 alignment most of the time, if not always (please don't let Trent Cole go backwards any more). With Babin and Cole, those two should be 4-3 ends 90% of the snaps or more. As for the secondary, who's defining the defense yet? Tampa-2, Cover-2, press-man coverage.... they can use all of those depending on their personnel. Tampa-2 and Cover-2 will require less man-to-man coverages (and better tackling CBs for run support) - which is why Asante doesn't fit well there. Now if they go with Asante and Nnamdi outside playing 1v1 and then use DRC on a slot receiver, they have the best of all worlds. Two cover corners to shut down X and Z receivers. A slot DB who can tackle and support run defense while still covering a Y-WR or TE. Add in their safeties that often are hybrids (not pure strong or free) and you get a very tough set of 4-5 DBs on the field. Now if they can find 2-3 LBs who can make plays, then they can start to define their defense.Dictating Cover 2 or Tampa 2 requires better tackling CBs and (in Tampa 2) a LB who can run down the middle of the field and cover a TE or crossing receiver. With two stud cover corners, they can reconsider and use more of a base coverage CB approach and use the safeties / nickel corner in run support. They don't have to commit to either approach. They can also play a hybrid where Nnamdi shuts down one WR and they can play zone on the other side of the field. The possibilities are big, and virtually no scheme lacks the personnel (aside from LB issues which exist in any defensive scheme right now).If Matthews works out with Chaney at MLB and either SAM or WILL and a third candidate emerges then it's a big time defense. Should Philly land one more TE or if Clayton steps up at WILL then they could be really good - but I'd love to see one more FA signing at LB to solidify the starters.
