*** Official 2012 Boston Red Sox Thread *** (2 Viewers)

If he's been as much a part of that organization as we've been led to believe, what a bunch of classless ####s.I mean I can understand the Cody Ross, Mike Aviles types not showing. They've only been there this year. I'll even give Pedroia a pass with his wife on bed rest. But Josh Beckett? John Lester? F those guys.

I think something like this would happen on most teams. I imagine most ball players are giant dooshes. The sox do seem to have an over abundance of dooshes though.

rumor is the Sox are dealing with business Godfather style tonight with the Dodgers

Multiple sources have indicated that the Red Sox and Dodgers are discussing a trade that could include Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford and Nick Punto.

Globe reporter Nick Cafardo reported just after 7 p.m., minutes before their game against the Royals was to begin, that Gonzalez had been scratched from the lineup.

Globe sports reporter Michael Vega said via Twitter that with Mauro Gomez taking first base tonight, the "deal must be done."

On the Dodgers side, first baseman James Loney had been scratched from their lineup.

The Boston Globe's Pete Abraham Tweeted just before 7:30 p.m. that the Red Sox would receive from the Dodgers: Loney, right handed minor league pitcher Rubby de la Rosa, minor league outfielder Jerry Sands, minor league infielder Ivan DeJesus, and a prospect.

Jon Morosi, a national baseball writer for FoxSports.com, Tweeted at about 7:40 p.m. that prospect Allen Webster would also be included in the deal from the Dodgers.

Help me understand post-trading deadline trades.

Gonzo and Beckett were put on waivers. The Dodgers claimed them.

So now why do the Dodgers need to TRADE for them?

Boston has the option to withdraw waivers and negotiate a deal with the claiming team. The claim just establishes exclusive trading rights.

Another question. Beckett is over-the-hill trash. We know this. But why would no other team claim Gonzalez? He's an elite player. Simply a case of the Dodgers being the only team which could afford him?

Good. Its been so hard to get excited about this crappy team. Blow it all up.
:goodposting: I can't remember a Red Sox team with more unlikeable players. Blow the team up and get some players that want to play baseball, not act like children. I don't care how much of those contracts they have to pay, I don't care if they get Steve Garvey in return, I don't care if they go 40 and 122 next season. Get some players that focus on playing baseball.

What was the "25 cabs for 25 players" team? The 90s, right? Boggs, Clemens, Greenwell... that bunch?

Based on a quick count of today's standings, 17 teams passed on them before the Dodgers claimed Gonzalez and Beckett. Some of them are set at 1B and $127M through his age 36 season is a lot of money for most clubs.

Right era. I remember how excited I was for the future of the Red Sox, I remember seeing the picture of the future stars together in the Red Sox program: Todd Benzinger (When it was cloudy out, he always wore a raincoat under his jersey), Ellis Burks, Mike Greenwell, and John Marzano. Oops.

ok but what about all th rookies going to the sox? they dont have to clear waivers?

I don't care who the Red Sox would get. If they could unload those players and contracts, I would do it for James Loney and his 5 home run power.

Dodger Stadium is actually a little more left-handed-hitter-friendly than Fenway, IIRC.

Deal reportedly done, all parties takin out of their respective lineups tonight, Something along the lines of Beckett, Gonzo and Crawford to the Dodgers for Allen Webster, James Loney, Jerry Sands, Ivan De Jesus, and Rubby De La Rosa. Who knows how much cash the Sox are sending back.

Only Loney was on the 25 man roster

Real happy about the trade... AGon was the price to pay to

get rid of Beckett and Crawford and we were able to

get some good pitching prospects in return.

I cannot believe the Dodgers gave up prospects. I am assuming the Red Sox ate a lot of $$$$. Or are the Dodgers new owners stupid?I think Becket will be much better with a change of scenery in the NL. And Gonzalez is going to be fine as well. Crawford? Not so much.I wonder if the next thing coming out of Boston is a trade request by Pedroia. If he is going to be a clubhouse disaster, he can go too. He has come off as quite the child this year, but he is a great player at a valuable position. Tough call. Would get a ton in a trade, though. It is going to be a rebuilding process. The rotation is shot (has been for a while) and the bullpen needs several arms. Just hope the front office realizes this and accumulates young talent. Trading Lawrie and Reddick looks absolutely atrocious now.

Why is everyone so certain that Boston's front office sees this as a rebuilding phase? They still have deep pockets and you gotta figure they will dive head-first into the free agent class.http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/04/2013-mlb-free-agents.html
:goodposting: yanks should do this with cano, arod, and tex  i kid i kid

What player on that list is better than Gonzo?

Not really a fair question. Would the Dodgers have taken that other SLOP if Gonzalez wasn't included?

Well of course not. Beckett and Crawford are a mess. My only point is, I doubt the Sox are able to gain more from FA than they will lose from Gonzo.

Assuming all reports are more or less correct, the Dodgers basically allowed the Red Sox to hit the reset button. Only real dead money left is Lackey and I can live with that. Add a few solid arms to the system. I'm assuming the Sox are looking to use some of this new flexibility to resign Ellsbury. Don't pay Hamilton or Greinke because both would be disasters in Boston and just let it build.

Well it's suddenly very interesting to be a sox fan in socal.

I don't have a clue on these prospects, but it seems very out of character to salary dump. Anyone have some insight on the dodger side?

I pretty much agree with this. Focus the attention on signingn Ellsbury. While looking at Premier's list, the only player that caught my eye was Greinke. 28 year old # 1 starter. But as you said, he might not be able to handle Boston. Let the young guys play, identify the keepers, spend on the farm, and make a move 2 years from now in free agency. I would be talking to teams about Lester in the offseason. The team got noticeably weaker and I am actually excited,

the natural

You don't get yourself out from under a bunch of big money contracts and then replace them with more, the Sox will not be making big FA splashes. That is what got them in their current position. Cherrington will look for value in the market but I highly doubt they sign any big money FA. There is still plenty of talent on the team, they just need to bolster their pitching.
