Rockies are signing FA C Ramon Hernandez 2/6.5 and trading Chris Iannetta to the Angels for Tyler Chatwood. Dollar for Dollar it's a pretty decent exchange for them since Chatwood and Hernandez will cost them roughly what Iannetta was going to for the next 2 years.

Scioscia will still probably find a way to give Jeff Mathis 250 PAs.

Brewers seem to be at 6/$120M for Fielder as their most recent offer. It sounds like they're still in play unless/until someone goes $170M+ per Buster Olney.

What's the hype on Hiroyuki Nakajima? Word is the Brewers are in the bidding that ends tomorrow per beat writer Tom Haudricort

There's something 'big' about to happen in Miami. Not sure yet if its Wilson/Reyes big....or Pujols/Fielder big....
If you guessed Heath Bell, you're a winner!3 year, $27 mil. Closing is the best gig in sports. Yes, even better than being a kicker.

Chris Capuano signs w/ the Dodgers for 2/$10M.

Sayonara to Hiro Kuroda. It'll be interesting to see if he returns to Japan for less money or signs with another MLB club.

if the offer is 7/150, that should get the deal done.

Good deal for the Dodgers here.
Tell me WHY moops? Quite a bit to pay for a guy who is a real injury risk and whose numbers don't merit $5 mil per year................not against Capuano - I have liked him for several years and pitching in Dodger Stadium is a BIG plus but the two years and ten million seem way over market

Or not. They traded Mathis to the Jays for Brad Mills. The A's are to the point of begging other teams to make offers for any of their arms. First it was Beane now it's the assistant GM saying it's not just Gio/Bailey that can be had but Cahill/McCarthy as well. Padres, Rangers, Mets, Mariners, Reds, and Blue Jays are rumored to have been talking with Oakland to get Bailey.Good news Padres fans - Omar Minaya is now your VP of baseball operations. :mellow:The Angels are making an offer to Aramis this week.

I don't think the contract is unreasonable. If he averages around 1.5 WAR over the two years he'll have earned it and his peripheral numbers from last year suggest he should produce that if healthy. It seems less likely that he'll be able to outproduce what Kuroda would have done though, which is where the deal seems more questionable.

Capuano will be paid $3 million in 2012 and $6 million in 2013, a source told ESPNLosAngeles.com's Tony Jackson. At the end of the deal, Capuano would be paid a $1 million buyout or earn $8 million in 2014 under the mutual option.
The risk comes in year two but that will be some other owner's problem. I wouldn't expect much better performance than what the Mets got from him for a much lower cost.In any event, it's nice to see Capuano get a big payday after working his way back from injury.

Manny Ramirez has filed for reinstatement. He would serve a 50 game suspension to start the year.

Phillies signed Laynce Nix.

Rumors have the Phils shopping Placindo Polanco (for a couple of batting helmets?) in order to sign Aramis Ramirez.

Also rumored to have Victorino on the trade block.

The Winter Meetings are practically in my backyard. Is there any reason to go down there and walk the lobby? Any possible shtick value?

I will hang up and listen.

IF you have someone to hang with - hard to stand there by yourself and play pocket pool unless you know a lot of people who will be there. Might be fun if you know what some of the Ranger scouts or front office personnel look like so you could ask them a question

I go hang out at Opryland every time it is in Nashville. Have talked to Gammons, Kurkjian, etc., and eavesdropped on many front office trade discussions. :nerd:ETA: Hook is right in that this would be much more entertaining with a buddy or two. Hit the hotel bars, that's where all the action is at.

Ned Colletti is trying to corner the market on infielders this off-season. Jerry Hairston Jr. signed a two-year deal with the Dodgers for $2.25 million in 2012 and $3.75 million in 2013.

Kevin Slowey traded to Colorado for a PTBNL. He's been a decent pitcher in the past when healthy but he does give up homers.

Heavy flyball pitcher, doesn't walk anybody, borderline K numbers. Not an ideal Coors profile, but you can never have enough cheap pitching depth I guess.

marlins offered 10 years to Pujols?
Got a feeling 10 years means more to him that the millions. I am also now thinking there is a decent chance he won't be back in St Louis. Don't know if they will give 10 years to a 35 year old.
Assuming the 10-yr offer is legit, I'm pretty confident he's gone. And at those contract terms, I'm okay with it.
Ultimately I agree - it will be sad, but it is a business and I would actually be disappointed more in the Cardinals if they made a bad business decision than if they lost Pujols. He will always be a Cardinal legend - maybe it is time to move on. Now, that said there is NO excuse to not go after another SP, a middle reliever, a shortstop and a proven OF. We have the cap space now.

I doubt you see an OF signed. If Pujols really is gone, Craig will get a full season in RF and Berkman will slide to 1B.As for a SP, I doubt you see that too unless they are able to trade Lohse. They have a ton of money tied up in Carp/Waino/Garcia/Lohse/Westbrook next season. Lohse and Westbrook are both off the books after 2012, so that's when I would expect them to make a splash on some SP.I don't believe Mo when he says, "I'm not afraid to have Tyler Greene as my starting SS next season." He's probably preparing fans for that scenario if they break the bank for Pujols, but otherwise I think they find someone else to be the everyday guy. Probably wouldn't hurt to find an everyday solution at 2B as well if Pujols leaves.

Aaron Harang looks like he's cashing in on his year at Petco (44 point home/away swing in split OPS) to the tune of a 2 year/$12M deal from the Dodgers.LA has spent a lot of money on a lot of mediocre talents: Ellis, Treanor, Kennedy, Capuano, Hairston and Harang. They could have spent the same amount of up front money and actually signed somebody good.
