Rockies are signing FA C Ramon Hernandez 2/6.5 and trading Chris Iannetta to the Angels for Tyler Chatwood. Dollar for Dollar it's a pretty decent exchange for them since Chatwood and Hernandez will cost them roughly what Iannetta was going to for the next 2 years.

I don't think the contract is unreasonable. If he averages around 1.5 WAR over the two years he'll have earned it and his peripheral numbers from last year suggest he should produce that if healthy. It seems less likely that he'll be able to outproduce what Kuroda would have done though, which is where the deal seems more questionable.

The risk comes in year two but that will be some other owner's problem. I wouldn't expect much better performance than what the Mets got from him for a much lower cost.In any event, it's nice to see Capuano get a big payday after working his way back from injury.

I go hang out at Opryland every time it is in Nashville. Have talked to Gammons, Kurkjian,etc., and eavesdropped on many front office trade discussions.
ETA: Hook is right in that this would be much more entertaining with a buddy or two. Hit the hotel bars, that's where all the action is at.

Got a feeling 10 years means more to him that the millions. I am also now thinking there is a decent chance he won't be back in St Louis. Don't know if they will give 10 years to a 35 year old.

Ultimately I agree - it will be sad, but it is a business and I would actually be disappointed more in the Cardinals if they made a bad business decision than if they lost Pujols. He will always be a Cardinal legend - maybe it is time to move on. Now, that said there is NO excuse to not go after another SP, a middle reliever, a shortstop and a proven OF. I doubt you see an OF signed. If Pujols really is gone, Craig will get a full season in RF and Berkman will slide to 1B.As for a SP, I doubt you see that too unless they are able to trade Lohse. They have a ton of money tied up in Carp/Waino/Garcia/Lohse/Westbrook next season. Lohse and Westbrook are both off the books after 2012, so that's when I would expect them to make a splash on some SP.I don't believe Mo when he says, "I'm not afraid to have Tyler Greene as my starting SS next season." He's probably preparing fans for that scenario if they break the bank for Pujols, but otherwise I think they find someone else to be the everyday guy. Aaron Harang looks like he's cashing in on his year at Petco (44 point home/away swing in split OPS) to the tune of a 2 year/$12M deal from the Dodgers.LA has spent a lot of money on a lot of mediocre talents: Ellis, Treanor, Kennedy, Capuano, Hairston and Harang. They could have spent the same amount of up front money and actually signed somebody good.
