what the ####!
Heres an article
Diamondbacks Manager Kirk Gibson sat Justin Upton for the second time in four days Tuesday and said more time out of the lineup could be in store for the struggling right fielder.

Upton, however, didn't like the decision and during postgame comments to reporters called his day off "pretty unproductive."

"I sat around and really didn't do much, and I'm still pissed off about the way I'm playing and I'm not playing, so I don't know if it was productive," he said.

Upton went on to say that he expects to play every game, but when asked if he thinks he'll be in the starting lineup tonight, he said this:

"It's hard to expect anything around here. I really don't know. I'm going to come in here tomorrow and wait until the lineup pops up on the screen just like everybody else."

Upton is batting .143 (4 for 28) in his past seven games following a nine-game hitting streak in which he went 13 for 31 (.419) from May 17-26. Overall, he entered Tuesday batting .243 with five home runs and 20 RBIs.

"It's day to day right now," Gibson said of Upton before Tuesday's game. "He's not playing today, he might not play tomorrow. We have an off day the next day. I don't know. But today, I knew I wasn't going to play him.

"I think he's over-thinking. I think he's over-trying. Things aren't coming naturally to him. He's tried a lot. He's a little bit lost in who he really is. And he's really frustrated as you can see."

Gibson suggested one option might be to sit Upton for as many as four or five games in a row. Upton said he hasn't spoken directly with Gibson yet but acknowledged that Gibson runs the team.

"He's going to say what he needs to say, he's the one who makes the decisions around here, and whatever decision he decides to make or whatever he thinks about me, it's ultimately his decision," Upton said.

And a quote from the DBack General Managing Partner who blasted both Drew & Upton
Upton, meanwhile, drew Kendrick's wrath for being inconsistent.

"I think Justin is an enigma at this point," Kendrick told KGME. "I know he had an injury (thumb) early on and maybe a little bit of a nagging injury. But he's played. He's certainly not the Justin Upton that he has been in the past and that we would expect of him. He's 24 years old and it's time for him to be a consistent performer and right now this year he's not been that."

Public Service Announcement

Max Scherzer's line vs. lefties this year - 346/408/559

The Indians lineup is loaded with lefties

If theres one thing I know about Max Scherzer, its that dont ever try and figure out when he will dominate or get bombed based on matchups. Its impossible to do.

I think the noticeable trend is against lefties, so far tonight 3 H 2 BB 2 HR 5 ER - all base runners have been lefties

I've only seen him play a handful of games, so going entirely off stats (and last season), is the Ichiro of 2001-2010 officially gone for good? I guess that whole hitting 3rd/watch him crank out homers isn't happening.

His BABIP this year is the lowest of his career by far. Some of that is undoubtedly due to loss of speed (bat and foot) but some is probably just bad luck over a small sample size.

Cano hits it out in the bottom of the 2nd and Costas announces, "there goes the shutout. there goes the no-hitter...", in all seriousness. And there was nobody out. :lmao:

Yeah, I know about Santana's 1-hitter and Johnny Vandermeer or whatever, but still.

Cano = Clutch

Brandon Morrow hurt. Comes out in the first.

I have the death touch with pitchers this season. Halladay, Robertson, Santos, Daniel Hudson, Paulino and now Morrow.

Does Beckett have an outside shot at the HOF?

His wins are on the low side, his ERA is not great and it seems like he's hurt a lot. But he was a key contributor in getting rings for two different franchises, he's been lights-out in the postseason and his walks/strikeouts ratio is excellent.

Just wondering. I'm hoping the answer is NO because I can't stand the guy.

In spite of what you think the answer is NO

Yeah, NO. Plus with all the injuries and inconsistencies over the years it just doesn't seem like he'll even get close to the numbers needed to even be a outside consideration. He's had some great moments and good seasons, but he's just an above average career pitcher when it is all said and done IMO.

Also, tonight's pitching matchup: Wang vs. Johnson.
Sequel on Thursday: Wang vs. Dickey!Ten year old me thinks this is the funniest thing ever.
After tough pairings with Johnson and Dickey, Wang finally gets a little relief this evening as he looks forward to the BJs. How long will this juvenile pun streak last?
Better than taking it in the BuchholzBumgardner would have worked too.

Bumgardner would be gold.Looks like if the rotation holds he gets David Price and the Rays at home next week. I can work with that.

Death touch continues to work it black magic. With all these pitchers on the shelf, I decided to start streaming starters off waivers. Picked up Brian Matusz yesterday to start vs. the Pirates today. He promptly gets hit in the nose during a bunting drill and scratched from his start.

Cespedes came back for an AB and it out again. Can't see him avoiding the DL right now. Now I question whether to cut bait or not /#allaboutme!!!

It's been asked before, but why doesn't every flameout pitcher try to develop a knuckler?
probably because they don't want to put in the kind of work it would take to be successful at the major league level with it - which no doubt would involve a stint in the minors to have real game practice with it ......oh and some of them are too self absorbed to ask one of the older guys for help with it

Buddy who didn't get the job for the Dodgers, just received a call from his former team.

He'll be throwing batting practice to the White Sox on the 22nd

Could turn into a permanent gig if it goes well.

I know wins are variable and to saberminded fans useless, but....

Cliff Lee pitching healthy all year and having 0 wins on June 16 is pretty funny
