Gaby Sanchez sent down to make room for Carlos Lee.Ozzie was cold-blooded.

joe capozzi ‏@joecapMARLINSOzzie on Gaby Sanchez being optioned to NOLA; "he should blame himself. We gave him plenty of opportunities "

I don't agree with Guillen often but he was right on this one. An OPS of .523 won't cut it.

Just because he was right, doesn't mean he had to rub salt in the wound, especially after Sanchez hit the game-tying 9th inning homer today.

Tact and compassion aren't a staple of Ozzie's leadership.

Carlos Lee traded to the fish for prospects.
It's cute that the fish think they still have a chance.
 They're 5 games and change from the second wildcard in their first year in a new stadium.Don't know much about Rasmussen but Dominguez has a great glove that can't hit his way out of AA the last couple years.
A with those 5 games come 5 other teams between them and that 2nd WC. They are 26th in baseball in runs scored and 22nd in ERA. The bullpen is a mess and the starting pitching is average.Math says they have a chance, logic says otherwise.

Just think that the middling prospects they gave up is a more than fair price to boost their 1B batting avg by 80 points or more.

I wasnt debating what they gave up to get him, and it obviously improves them. 1B for Miami has been almost as bad 3B was for the White Sox.I just don't don't think they have a chance with or without Lee.

Random question of the week about the local TV guys for each club:

Who makes more money... the "professional announcer" who handles the play-by-play duties, or the ex-major leaguer who serves as the analyst? Don Orsillo & Jerry Remy with the Red Sox and Michael Kay & Paul O'Neill with the Yankees, for example.

Probably depends on the people. Michael Kay obviously makes a #### ton more $$ than O'Neill

This. It probably also depends on if that person is chosen to do some of the regional Fox broadcasts on Saturday.

I suspect Jon Miller is paid pretty well

Yu and Freese voted into ASGI got no beef with that
Yu was a slam dunk but I'd rather kipnis or ee if he would have made the ballot. I was initially pulling for Harper but considering the game is in Missouri and freese was so huge last October. I'm glad he's going. Bryce will have many of these in front of him

I just saw the Grienke video, that ejection was atrocious. Put down your rabbit ears you chump. If he did it in the umps face or even FACING him, that would be one thing. Walking away, that is a disgrace.

any video of grienke getting ejected. i heard the umpire was over the line.
He wasn't arguing the call, but did seem to spike the ball out of frustration over the call. Ump had every right to throw him IMO
So does an Ump have the right to throw out a batter after he spikes his bat to the ground? The ejection was atrocious.
Of course he does if it's in response to a call the umpire made.

Bad news for ATL. In the midst of their win to sweep the hapless Phils today, Andrelton Simmons broke a bone in his hand sliding headfirst into second.

Haven't heard a timetable.

But that is an assumption. Greinke could have easily been angry that he was late to first base. It reminds me of when the NBA became more concerned with player reactions but too often T'd players who were only angry at themselves.

So how can an umpire make that judgement call when the player in question doesn't even say a word, like in Greinke's case?

I can't believe Kemp is participating in the HR derby. Borderline disgusting choice by him. You miss a month and your team freefalls and you participate in this?

He hit one more home run than Eephus did. :lmao: :lmao:

I can't even make it through the ASB without a player going down

Dillon Gee will be placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a blood clod in the artery of his right shoulder.Terrible news for Gee, who has made some major strides this season by posting a 4.10 ERA and 97/29 K/BB ratio over 109 2/3 innings. It's not yet known how long he'll be sidelined, but Mets general manager Sandy Alderson could now target a starting pitcher before the trade deadline. It's also possible that prospect right-hander Matt Harvey could get a shot.

Hope he's alright. That's a scary injury.

I lose Beachy to Tommy John surgery. Drop him Wednesday and pick up Paulino, who was due back on Monday. Now, Paulino's getting TJ too.Dropping Paulino for Gee. You are warned.
You were warned.

I, too, have been sniping otherwise healthy pitchers all season. Picked up Gee last week. He now joins Beachy, Paulino, Halladay, Morrow, Santos, Hudson and Robertson. :bowtie:
