Ichiro has had a dreadful past year and a half, but worst case he brings speed and defense mpw that Gardner is out for the season...

Plus there's always a chance he's revitalized in NY

Good move IMO

I'm no fan of the Yankees and Ichiro is clearly on a downward trend but I'm glad to see him come to NY. I hope he does well.

Yeah I like that move for the Yanks, Ichiro may actually show up to play every day now which will be a huge change for him.

Probably so, but I can't believe it has gotten this bad for them. They're the worst team in baseball and don't even have any good young players. How is that possible?

Altuve?Most people expected this level of awfulness from the Astros, yes? I don't recall a single preseason prediction that didn't consider them the worst team in the league. Ed Wade killed the entire organization, particularly in the Bourn trade which was a total miss considering the trading partner and the young talent they had to offer. But they did relatively well on the Hunter Pence deal. At least now they're trying to turn the corner.

Altuve is :moneybag: and Lowrie is a nice piece of the puzzle as well and Singleton probably being a middle of the order guy. I think they have good "fill" OF talent but not all that sure about pitching.

Their pitching is why I think they're closer to a decade away and their #1 pick this year reflects that thinking. Lowrie may be a very interesting trade chip this time next year as he's a free agent 2015 and Correa's the long term guy at short.

Martinez is serviceable (would be better but is hurt)

Scott Moore 2B/OF, has looked pretty good since his callup

and they have a handful of players in the minors you will see next year or soon after:

Jonathan Singleton 1B, obtained in the Pence trade

Jarred Cosart a RHP also obtained from Philly

DeLino Deshields Jr. 2B, son of and hitting well this year

George Springer OF, former UConn standout in college, from the 2011 draft,

to say nothing of the #1 pick from this year, Carlos Correa a very good hitting shortstop with power

Scott Moore is 28 and hitting .138 over the past 14 days. He's a helluva rockabilly guitar player though.The Astros AA and AAA teams have good records. It's hard to get a good read on pitching stats since they play in the Texas and Pacific Coast leagues. Jordan Lyles has been up and down for two years now but is still just 21. Some 23 year old at AA named Jose Cisnero has good numbers but needs to sharpen his control.

They have some nice developmental pieces, but none of their arms look to be any better than middle of the rotation types. They're going to need to use guys like Lowrie and Martinez to acquire pitching prospects as well as groom more from the draft. It's going to be a long, painful process.
 
Ichiro REALLY still needs an interpreter for that presser after playing a dozen years in the States?

Shtick, right? I'm pretty sure he knows enough English to piece together a few answers.

A Rod just took a King Felix heater off the hand. This one looked real bad.

 
A-Rod broken bone, likely done for the regular season.

Nunez just came off the minor league DL, Corban Joseph, Brandon Laird inhouse options to pair with Chavez who is NOT ready to play every day

Chase Headley a likely trade target I suppose.

Hard not to feel a tremendous amount of schadenfraude at the plight of the 2012 Marlins. What a miserable bunch of ###holes Loria, Samson and Ozzie are. Can't wait to watch The Franchise over the next few weeks. Great tweet from Craig Calcaterra this morning: "I half expect Loria to absently say 'look, if we had a new ballpark, this would not be necessary ...' when asked about the trades."

I'd feel bad for the fans, but they've gotten two World Series titles in the last 15 years out of an expansion team that's only existed for 20 years, and in any event they've got the Heat. Plus there's lots of boobs to look at when they go to the park.

 
Cole Hamels will sign a six-year, $144 million deal that reportedly has a vesting option for a seventh year. In all, the total package could be worth $160 million, according to USA Today. An agreement was originally reported by FOXSports.com.

Haven't seen any reports but you have to wonder about the amount of clubhouse friction between Ozzie and Hanley. Hanley's stock could possibly have dropped even more with two more months of sulking.
