Cole Hamels will sign a six-year, $144 million deal that reportedly has a vesting option for a seventh year. In all, the total package could be worth $160 million, according to USA Today. An agreement was originally reported by FOXSports.com.
Man how much is David Price going to get after 2015?

Let me see if I understand Jeffery Loria's plan.

1 - Buy team and force city to buy you new stadium.

2 - Buy lots of high priced free agents to help fill stadium with fans.

3 - With seats filled, hold firesale.

4 - ???

5 - Profit

About a 50% increase from 2011. And attendance usually drops when teams suck.
It's a pretty pathetic performance considering the new park and the free agent acquisitions designed to turn around a sub-.500 team. Twins were over 100% capacity in 2010 after being middle of the pack and 60% capacity in 2009. Nats went from 25th in 2007 to 18th in 2008 and sold an extra 5-6K per, despite going from 73-89 to an abominable 59-102 in their first year in the new digs. Padres went from 19th and 25K to 9th and 37K (!).Didn't include the Yanks, Mets and Cardinals new stadiums because they were already drawing well in the old ones.

A-Rod broken bone, likely done for the regular season.
Will anyone even notice?
He was having a solid season. Not worth his price tag, certainly, but .276/.358/.449 slash line with a 114 OPS+and solid defense is much better than the position will be in his absence IMO
He's 118 short of Bonds' HR mark and has had five consecutive years of declining OPS+. Using Bill James' Favorite Toy calculator, his chances of reaching 763 have gone from 50% in 2007 to just 8% today (assuming he's out for the rest of the regular season)

K-Rod making Axford look like Mariano.
Ugh.Crazy to think of where the Phils would be if Carlos Ruiz wasn't taking PEDs slugging 160 points above his career average at age 33 after playing the most grueling position in the game professionally for 13 years for some unexplained reason.

Padilla is such an obese, head-hunting piece of trash. He should be banned from playing this game.

(It happened last night... just seeing it now)

Grienke to Angels for Segura plus some young pitchers.
John Hellweg 6'9" RHP 1.38 WHIP, 4.5 BB/9 & 6.6 SO/9 at AA ArkansasAriel Pena Dominican RHP 1.20 WHIP at Arkansas. Looks like he's been working on his command this year. Walks are down from nearly 5 per 9IP to 3.3 but he's been giving up over a HR per nine. Both are 23Segura isn't a bad return for two months of Greinke, particularly if he can field the position at SS. Melvin definitely gave up more to acquire Greinke two offseasons ago but the Brewers got their playoff run out of the deal as well.

34 year old Lew Ford coming back up to the show for the first time since 2007. His stops since then have been Hanshin, Long Island, Louisville, Oaxaca and Norfolk.

Does anyone know how the tie breaker works if there are multiple teams tied for the wild card? There isn't much time built in for play in games so I didn't know if head to head or league record would be used.

IIRC, there's 2 days budgeted for 1 game play-in's. If more is needed all was said on Sirius was 'it is messy and that is a conversation for September.'

Hell of a choke job by the Brewers. Nats in good spot to win another series :excited:

edit: Never mind?

Made two nice plays on the OF today, including throwing out a guy at 2B on a laser throw. Good thing Milwaukee isn't good, if I was a fan of that time I'd be ready to kill myself over all those blown saves. Today it was like a given that the nats would tie it up in the eighth, but they did it in the ninth as well. Agree on Rizzo, I think he's gonna be a beast.

Andrew Jones looks really old. Not sure if he was ever Griffey Jr good but he's one of the best CFers of my lifetime, oh how the mighty have fallen.

I never, ever thought I'd see the day that I hate a ball player more than Kyle Farnsworth, but...Vincente Padilla may be it. Just hearing his name makes my skin crawl, let alone seeing his fat ugly face. At least with Farnsworth a little smile comes over my face because I half know an implosion is on the way*

*2011 Devil Rays magic withstanding

Bobby V is just terrible at his job.

How do you have Crawford on first, with nobody out, and don't find a way to send him over the next 3 batters? It's Carl GD Crawford. At this points, stealing a base is the only value he has to the team.
