What is there to save this season? Might as well get started on that rebuild now.iamkoza said:as a bear fan and season ticket holder.... i have no idea what needs to be done to fix this mess. All i know is there needs to be an influx of young talent... I don't know if emery is the guy to acquire that talent... his track record so far has been a mixed bag at best in the draft...
you can fire trestman and mel tucker... but what does that do for you this season? the fix is going to come through multiple years of good drafts... that 31 players from other teams on the bears roster is very telling for how bad the drafting has been
Awfulstay classy, bears fansI hate this damn team. I'm embarrassed to call myself a Bears fan.

Wow, Hub is usually a Bears lapdog. He is absolutely right that the Bears need a change at the top. Notice, that Hub is very careful not to criticize the Bears front office, or Emery. I think he knows that Trestman's days are numbered. He can safely pile on Trestman. But I am still surprised that he was this honest. Hub used to be the publisher of Pro Football Weekly. I loved that publication. But when Hub started working on Bear broadcasts he suddenly seemed to take on the role of an apologist for the Bears. I really stopped trusting him once he started working for the Bears. But in this case he is brutally honest, and he is absolutely right.New Hub column is hilarious...and spot on.

This is so dumb, lol. The fans are upset, so fire someone to appease them. My gut tells me that if they fire someone and hire some schlub to replace him the results are going to be the same at best, and probably worse. I have no idea what the core of the problem is in Chicago, but a sacrificial firing isn't going to correct it.How is it even remotely possible that no one has been fired? Back to back games giving up over 50 points. Gutless. Both the players on the field and the front office for not making a move. Get rid of Tucker NOW! Firing someone mid season won't help things now, but it would at least be symbolic. Not doing anything when the fans are demanding it is insulting.
First of all, it's interesting that people call firings something just to appease people when there are a lot of ex-bear players out there saying that when a team has quit like this, a new voice in the locker room can actually make a change, even if the scheme largely can't. Patrick Manley has been big on this on the score, and at least two other not bitter ex bears have expressed the same things. This is so dumb, lol. The fans are upset, so fire someone to appease them. A firing now won't fix anything, but it wouldn't be for the players, it would be for the fans. Doing nothing now doesn't guarantee anything will be done in the offseason. Firing Tucker now and replacing him in the interim, would force them to bring someone new in next year. It's at least SOME assurance they are trying to do some thing to fix this.Statcruncher said:I agree with you, when a team takes beatings like that especially with a bye to prepare there is something terribly wrong within the organization. That being said, what good does a mid-season firing and promoting from within said organization do? Whatever has caused the utter collapse of the Bears runs way deeper than one person. It's not something that's going to be repaired midseason.
Do you really think the Bears players care if Tucker is canned or not? I know it's pretty common to fire a coach when a team is underperforming, but IMO it seems pretty reactionary. Maybe Tucker getting fired would ignite some players to work harder. From what I've seen the past few games I highly doubt it.
And as for the ex-Bear players, they know about as much about the current locker room as you and I do. Being past Bears gives them a platfrom to express their opinion, but it doesn't mean their opinion is any more valid than yours or mine.
weirdA weird anomaly this weekend, but for those who don't know, Bears/Vikings will be on CBS and not FOX. FOX agreed to give up the game.
Translation: "I should be fired for not having my defense ready for the most important game of the season with an extra week to do so? What other proof do you need that I am inept and in over my head??"Mel Tucker: We were not prepared enough for Green Bay

I would love to see the Bears turn it around. If they won out that would mean they won some really tough games. That would mean they would have beaten the Lions twice. If they won out then you probably would be seeing production from a lot of young players, like Bostic, Greene, Wilson, Vereen, Sutton and Ferguson. It would mean Cutler showed signs of life. It would mean that the coaching staff figured something out. I would much prefer the Bears winning out to tanking things and getting a high draft pick. Winning or losing creates momentum. You want the team moving in the right direction going in to next season. What would you guys prefer to see (and don't start spewing odds of it not happening)? Just for kicks, would you prefer to have the Bears win out and make the playoffs or lose out and get a high pick? Running the table would be very entertaining but they would still probably lose in the playoffs. It would also almost certainly give us another year of the current staff. Losing out gives you a good pick but it doesn't mean that the pick will be a correct one. The staff would most likely be replaced but that's not even guaranteed.
Choose wisely...
is this lance briggs? Now once they're eliminated, I don't care either way. They could lose every game by 50 and it wouldn't matter. I'm sure the organization has already decided what it will do. They're not a results oriented organization.
That's not an option now and there's $54 million reasons why.Honestly think I'd rather keep Trestman than Cutler.

Briggs is one of their best players on defense, even now. He is rated 13th amongst 4-3 OLB by Pro Football Focus this season. He isn't a leader. He isn't going to save them. His cap hit is $6.5 million, but he is an unrestricted free agent after this year. Cutting him now saves you nothing. He has been a very good player for the Bears for a long time. He has been to the Pro Bowl seven times. He should be treated with respect, allowed to play out his contract, and go finish his career with the Patriots or wherever he wants. Nothing is to be gained by making a scapegoat out of one of the guys who has given you so many great seasons.Briggs should be released.is this lance briggs? Now once they're eliminated, I don't care either way. I have been a big fan of Briggs but agree with you that they should cut him if they can't get him under control. Even if he plays well this week he has become a cancer in the locker and this is not what you want to teach the younger impressionable players. Based on his behavior and comments he seems to have checked out and is only interested in collecting a paycheck. He also looks like he wasn't working out too much when he was out with his injury which is unprofessional.Briggs: “Sometimes I’m sitting in meetings while coach is talking and sometimes the words just kind of phase out and I’m just staring at the screen. Has nothing to do with making him a scapegoat. But he clearly doesn't want to be there and doesn't respect the coaches so show him the door.
When most of the beat writers are saying it, there's something to it. He's clearly not fully invested in the system and probably hasn't been ever since Lovie was fired.flapgreen said:Briggs is a cancer? I hate this team this year as much as anyone but come on now.
