** Official 2014 NFL Scouting Combine thread ** (2 Viewers)

Coverage sucks as usual. On NFL.com, they blabber and show pictures of players while drills are being run. Or they just show themselves. Jesus a split screen camera and on one is billick and on the other is 2 other jabronies while drills are run way in the backbround.

Still can't get over how impossibly deep this class is -- everyone is confirming or bettering what was expected going in. It's going to be like 2008 was for RBs -- where you have elite talent still available into the 3rd round of the NFL draft -- except for both RBs and WRs.

Will want to wait for final times and measurements to be posted, but at this point FF rookie drafts are going to be 20-25 deep. With the chaff thrown into the mix you could still be looking at decent prospects through 30-35 picks.

I don't see any reason to get excited about the unofficial times. Why even talk about them until we know what the official times are? You can almost always add .1 to those unofficial NFL Network times.
Exactly.

I just measured Evans' second run, here are my splits:

10: 1.67

20: 2.70

40: 4.60

Just went over Evans' 1st run, ran a lot better:

10: 1.67

20: 2.67

40: 4.49

Martavis Bryant should be on the radar. Looks like a future stud to me.
Reports are that he will declare after the game.
Interesting. I figured him to go back as he was overshadowed by Watkins all year. He could be the guy next year. I guess he's a Jr so leaving makes sense. Look for him to blow up the combine. Rumor at Clemson is he runs a sub 4.3 forty. He's 6,5" and can jump as well.
Posted this in another thread a while back.

Bryant looks pretty damn good so far. Curious to get others thoughts. How much can he move up?

Benjamin looks stiff and awkward as hell. Advertises his breaks and just generally runs sloppy. Gets off the line slow. Evans looking like twice the natural athlete and receiver today.

:lmao:

The WR coach addressed one of the WRs screwing up the out and up. He turned to the rest of the group and said "I know some of you don't have degrees, but at least you can count to 5"

Marquise Lee broad and vert look awesome. Might not be historically great, just shy of 10' and 38"

When do the "official" numbers get published/updated? End of today or a few days from now?
NFL Draft Scout updates the 40-times within a few days most years. One year they waited almost a full year though, so who knows.

NFL.com never updates anything and it's not even clear what numbers they report IIRC.

No wonder Billick is on the sidelines. He's an idiot.
Thank you for the entire post, but this part was the best. I wish Billick would go away forever.
Mayock was probably thinking the same thing along with 'how the hell were you a head coach if you thing the gauntlet is worthless.' I want to punch Billick in the face.
Mayock explains why coaches don't like the gauntlet.

It has some value but notice DHB looked fine in the gauntlet...

The combine is reinforcing what I saw from watching them play. Not even close as prospects IMO.

Yeah, and to me that's what the combine should be for. To reinforce the tape or give you a reason to go back to the tape.

Nobody should have gone into this thing thinking Landry was going to do well on the measurables portion. He's not explosive, doesn't get great separation, won't blow by anyone. His game is hands, toughness over the middle, gritty blocking.

Jeff Janis with a 4.30 unofficial on first try at 6-3 220? Didn't seem that fast to me when watching it.
Yeah, I'd be shocked if his official is near that time. Looked like 4.45 guy running it.

Yea....I'm thinking his time looked more like 4.45 as well, still a really good time at his size though.

Jeff Janis. 4.30 you gatta be kidding me. Fastest white WR ever?
My wife's nephew plays for Saginaw Valley State so I have went to quite a few of their games the last few years. Janis has phenomenal hands to go with the speed.
