** Official 2014 Philadelphia Eagles Thread ** (1 Viewer)

Would you guys elaborate a little more details on the run scheme and what type of passing attack the Eagles employ?

In addition, do you see the Eagles improving next season as Foles "develops" or do you see the rest of the league catching up to Kelly much the way the zone reads have been slowed down after a couple years?

Again, could you see the Eagles drafting a Marcus Mariota or other QB even late that could develop and eventually outplay Foles?

Is Kelly really that good? Will there be a regression?
http://fishduck.com/playbook/#playbook-offenceanalysis <~~ excellent break down of the offense. These guys are not bad at breaking down some of the looks either http://chipwagon.typepad.com/eagles/I say the league won't catch up and not just because I'm a birds fan. Chip reminds me of modern day Madden players. All of the plays and concepts already have adjustments built in pre and post snap. It's still a talent driven league. When you have this OL + McCoy and Foles decision making and anticipation + WR who excel deep and after the catch its a match made in heaven.

They should try to find that player in my book. Every team should. The odds of it happening are not that high. We just drafted Matt Barkley for crying out loud.

I'll say yes again. The adjustments are already being made. Now we just need a little more talent in a few places. Maybe the regression will come from a more difficult schedule.

Nice post btw
The reason I don't think the rest of the league will "catch up" is because partially all the talent as ShaHbucks said and partially because the Eagles don't really do anything all that special. They simply spread teams out, see what the defense is giving them and take it. Sure, every now and then they'll show some wacky formation, but at the end of the day, it's basically a bunch of 1 on 1 battles (because defenses are so spread out).

While I agree with the above posts about the system, something tells me that this offense, and Foles for that matter, would look rather ordinary if McCoy went down and Polk became the RB1

We have a Lot of talent if any of: Peters, Jackson, Foles, Kelce, OR McCoy go down - this offense will less extraordinary. That's no different than most good teams though.

Still think they'd be in the top half of offenses in the league if McCoy went down, unlike say if Peyton Manning went down, DEN would be FUBAR.

Looked this over briefly and it's pretty awesome from what little study I've done. Simplistic yet complex enough that it challenges the defense in virtually every facet. The fundamentals are pretty easy, the play is almost typecast pre-snap, but it's diverse in what it does in function. Should demand a lot of pateince and discipline from a defense to defend as it's very sound philosophy.

Thanks very much for the link and I'll peruse it with intention of discussion in the near future.

Way to hook a brother up!

Per Schefter, Saints are shopping RB Pierre Thomas, RB Darren Sproles, and WR Lance Moore. I'd love to see Sproles in this offense. Don't want to give up picks, though.

So Jairus Byrd was tweeting at Patrick Chung today asking him if he changed his number. On the eve of free agency. Hmmmm.

Obvious wishful thinking, but he was all about talking to Brian Dawkins on ESPN the other day too. Me guessing here, but maybe getting an idea what it's like to play in Philadelphia.

I really do expect Howie to make the big move. Nnamdi may have people thinking hes gunshy but I don't think he's that kind of gm. Safety is an obvious need. I see them signing Byrd and then still drafting a safety at 22 if one of the top guys are still there.

Where did you see this?
Byrd's twitter feed. His 2nd to last tweet was at Chung.
@jairusbyrd: @PatrickChung23 yo, u change your #?*********What else can that mean seriously?
@patrickchung23: @jairusbyrd yea like a day ago. Just shot you a text

4:57pm - 7 Mar 14

Chung wore 23 this season, did he change to 31? I'm confused with this whole thing.

Ya, I think he clearly means phone number here.

However, that could still mean something. He was obviously trying to text or talk to Chung, maybe asking questions about playing in philly, etc.

What would Chung know about playing in Philly?

@LesBowen: Haven't been on Twitter much last few hrs, so maybe everybody knows this, but FA pass rusher Michael Johnson will NOT be an Eagle, I am told

Joe Person (Carolina beat writer) on Twitter: Hearing Bears, Eagles, Broncos and Falcons showing interest in CAR safety Mike Mitchell.

Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report says Champ Bailey could land in Philadelphia or Atlanta. Champ could move to safety.

Mitchell would not be my first choice (or second or third), but he seems like a solid option who could be a decent value compared to the top FA safeties. Would fit Roseman's MO thus far.I think Bailey is done.

Then again, this sounds like a repeat analysis of last year's Chung signing.Get Byrd.

No thanks on Byrd @ 9 mil. Give me a pass rush and everyone will look better.
Yeah I think 9 mill is too much for safety unless it is Polamalu in his prime. Seems like there are plenty of stop gaps in FA this year.

Way to expensive for Byrd. If Ward is reasonable I would love him..

But why not Malcolm Jenkins, Antoine Bethea, or to a lesser extent Delmas. I would love a Bethea/Jenkins combo,& could probably get both for about the same as you would have to pay Byrd.

(Twitter noob, sorry)
Sheil kapadia and Reuben frank are two that come to mind. Jeff MacLane a bit, too.

Looks like they have interest in Mike Mitchell from Carolina, per Bleeding Green. "The Eagles are reportedly one of two teams pursuing Mitchell the hardest."

That is the going rate for a high quality safety. The tag would have been ~8,5M so it's not like 9M is some outrageous sum. How many years is this Eagles team 15-20M UNDER the cap? You just structure the deal so that you aren't eating a ton of money after 3 years.

I also can't believe the Eagles are interested in Mike Mitchell. They could have had the guy last offseason. If they give him a multi-year deal with guaranteed money, I will throw up.
