I remember one year when the Eagles played the SF 49ers. The Eagles were killing the Niners and George Seifert (I think was the coach), pulled Steve Young. Young went on a 5 minute tirade at Seifert. I'm surprised San Fran didn't release him. Point being, that stuff happens all the time because football players play with emotion. They fight each other at practice. The go after each other on the field. It a physical, emotional game. What happens on the field should be taken with a grain of salt.

Remember, "there's no way Kelly can be successful with Foles as QB". The sky didn't fall then either.

Look, I am not in the camp of getting rid of Desean Jackson just to get rid of him. He can be a very good WR who can stretch the field to make your whole offense better. However, I also know that he is a pain in the butt, his primary concern is Desean Jackson, and that there are several things about him which might outweigh his performance on the field. I also don't think Chip Kelly is such a one trick pony that his offense will stagnate if Desean is not on the team.

Cooper, as far as I know, only had that one racist incident. He handled it about as well as he could. He got a big break in that Mike Vick and Avant were willing to stand up for him. He then went on to have a career year with a QB who wasn't afraid to throw into tight coverage. The Eagles rewarded him because they figure he can keep doing what he did with Kelly running the offense and Foles throwing the ball. I have no reason to think he can't.

Maclin got a one year deal. The Eagles obviously signed him because Chip Kelly wants to see what he can do with Maclin in this offense.

I don't think anyone's saying he'll dog it. What I've said is that we don't know what is being said between Roseman and Joel Segal. What we do know is there was a public incident with the WR coach and Jackson publicly said he wanted a new contract. Would he holdout or dog it? We don't know. But his current deal was negotiated by Rosenhaus who no longer represents him. New agent may want a piece of a new deal. It happens. And we don't know to what lengths he would advise Jackson to go. Maybe talks got a bit contentious with Segal. Maybe Segal started hinting at trouble that could become a distraction.

Do you really think you know all the details? I doubt it so why criticize either side without all the facts? Relax let this run its course. IF they suck next year, then ##### about it. I think Kelly will be able to make the offense work with or without DJax.

After all this happens, the new agent and Desean call in looking for new money. So I was looking at this mock draft on drafttek.com and it has Johnny Manziel dropping to Philly at #22.

If Manziel is there at #22, does Philly take him? I would think they'd go either WR (depending on DJax situation) or OLB/DE.

You think Green Bay, Dallas, Chicago and Detroit all pass on him?

I have no idea who will take Manziel. If he's there, does Philly? Of all the teams you listed, Philly seems to be the least set at QB (at least in terms of long-term contract obligations).

The chances of us taking Manziel are 0% IMO. I think they'll consider him in round 3 if he were still on the board.

Everyone keeps coming back to this idea that Kelly wants a mobile QB. What I think makes this offense go is good, quick decisions both pre and post snap. Reading coverage and correctly counting box numbers is critical for running the package plays, being able to quickly work deep into progressions to find the guy who's beaten his single coverage matchup are both start and finish type abilities in executing this offense.

Having watched this spread work for a season now I'm convinced quick and accurate decision making and accuracy are the key QB attributes, mobility is a nice to have but no more.

Manziel seems like the polar opposite of that, he's a sandlot player, who doesn't seem to have ever really had to work within a structured offense. A lot of his highlight reel seem to be broken, ad lib plays.

Vick early in his career was a great athlete and a mediocre QB, Manziel seems like he'll start out as a good athlete and a mediocre QB. Whether he develops will depend on how coachable he is and how he handles a year or two of limited success.

I actually think Jackson really improved in terms of effort on the field the last 2 years, he even makes a decent effort to run block even though he's not exactly great at it.

I'm not convinced Maclin suddenly turns into a star either, the first 4 years of his career were set up perfectly for that to happen, and he never rose above solid #2 type numbers, and didn't seem to progress beyond what he did as a rookie.

Plus, I still think he's soft. Happy to be proved wrong though, just don't see guys in Year 6 suddenly doing things they haven't done before very often.

I remember this, it was awesome to watch as a fan of the winning team. I respected Young though, for wanting to keep fighting. Don't know what the fight was about between Jackson and Bicknell but probably wasn't "Let me back on the field so I can keep trying to win the game", which makes it completely different.

Funny story I heard Jeremiah Trotter say on the radio re player/coach fights. Said it happens more often than you think, but mostly in the dressing room. There was a game where Trot wasn't playing well in the first half, was getting blocked a lot of different ways and having trouble reading what was coming from where. Jim Johnson was getting into him between every series, telling him to get his head out of his ### and play better.

At halftime Johnson got into him again, Trotter said (paraphrased) "I'd had enough of him riding me, so I charged him and 3 guys had to hold me back. I probably wasn't gonna do nothing, but I'd had enough" Said he got angry and played a lot better in the second half (which I'm sure was the intention).

Way too much discounting a healthy Maclin as a talent on the boards

How so? Maclin has shown he's good for 65/850/8 type numbers, and that's with an elite deep threat opposite him. Expecting anything better is reaching. He has more talent than that and he might come to life and fulfill that potential, but expecting veteran players to suddenly outperform their mean is more like wishing than planning.

I like Jackson, Maclin and Cooper as a group but Maclin, Cooper and Ertz/Rookie/Benn/StreetFA is a lot less appealing.

You know, one idea floated out there that might just be brilliant is the fact that the Eagles have all the leverage with Jackson now. So the organization was irritated with the comments right after playoff loss, plus the sideline business and god knows what else has happened that we are not privy to. Jackson already got his bonus. He has 10 million reasons to keep his yap shut and play ball now that it's been established that there isn't any hot interest in him due to his number. The team can CUT his ### and then he's looking at getting signed for a fraction of what he could make here in 2014. Anyone think this may have been the case? It's kinda Machiavellian.

They had that anyway. This sounded more like he did something to annoy them. They shopped him around and saw it was worth putting up with him for at least another year. Both sides need each other but people are reaching when they say he'll dog it when he's getting paid now. He was going to play hard either way. If not for the Eagles then for himself to maximize his value for next off season if he was cut.

This. Whatever's going on it obviously isn't football related. Would be dangerous to get rid of him I think, it turns an above average position group into a below average group. I actually think Jackson really improved in terms of effort on the field the last 2 years, he even makes a decent effort to run block even though he's not exactly great at it.

I'm not convinced Maclin suddenly turns into a star either, the first 4 years of his career were set up perfectly for that to happen, and he never rose above solid #2 type numbers, and didn't seem to progress beyond what he did as a rookie.

Plus, I still think he's soft. Happy to be proved wrong though, just don't see guys in Year 6 suddenly doing things they haven't done before very often.

I'd love to see him go 80/1200/10 and I think he has the talent to be that kind of player. We'll see what happens.

Wayne didn't have his breakout year until age 26, the same age Maclin turns in a couple of months.

This post reminded me of something that I heard Sal Pal tell Mikey Miss yesterday during an afternoon radio interview......Sal Pal said the Eagles have paid Vick over $48.7 million "real cash" during the last 4 years to play a total of 40 games, for a record of 20-20 during that span, with no playoff wins. That's a little over $1.2 million per game. Just a little food for thought, kids.....

I'm certainly not discounting a healthy Maclin. Maclin IMO is irrelevant to the Desean Jackson conversation. It doesn't have to be Jackson OR Maclin. It can be Jackson AND Maclin.

Just heard Evan Mathis is on the trading block. dhockster, how did Mathis perform in the playoffs?

General rule of thumb is most good WR breakout at 26

I can see that. They missed their first chance. Draft day is the last chance to get any value.
