One other thing to consider about Desean from the Eagles point of view: Does he come up big in the playoffs? In 6 playoff games, Desean has had one good game (2008 vs. Ari, 6-92-1), one okay game (2008 vs NYG, 4-81-0) and 4 mediocre/poor games. In addition, under Chip Kelly, he was shut out last year, until the backup CB had to come in because of injury.
I can guarantee Chip is not just considering how players play in the regular season, but also how they play against good competition which they will face in the playoffs.
I guess Lesean McCoy will be the next guy to get released then. His playoff numbers are abysmal.
Yes, because that is what I said. Playoff performance is one factor teams use to evaluate players, it is not the only factor. As far as I know, Lesean hasn't jaked it through a season and doesn't have much off the field issues. When you have multiple factors against you, each additional one makes it easier to get rid of you.
What are you trying to say? I'm not sure.
Riley Cooper went on a racist rant last summer. That's a MAJOR issue off the field AND in the locker room. There are current players in the locker room that probably despise Cooper and always will. What do the Eagles do? New contract.
Jeremy Maclin tears up his knee, AGAIN. Doesn't play a down. What do the Eagles do? New contract.
DeSean Jackson has a career year. Makes the ProBowl. Has no issues whatsoever. What do the Eagles do?
Look, I am not in the camp of getting rid of Desean Jackson just to get rid of him. He can be a very good WR who can stretch the field to make your whole offense better. However, I also know that he is a pain in the butt, his primary concern is Desean Jackson, and that there are several things about him which might outweigh his performance on the field. I also don't think Chip Kelly is such a one trick pony that his offense will stagnate if Desean is not on the team.
Cooper, as far as I know, only had that one racist incident. He handled it about as well as he could. He got a big break in that Mike Vick and Avant were willing to stand up for him. He then went on to have a career year with a QB who wasn't afraid to throw into tight coverage. The Eagles rewarded him because they figure he can keep doing what he did with Kelly running the offense and Foles throwing the ball. I have no reason to think he can't.
Maclin got a one year deal. The Eagles obviously signed him because Chip Kelly wants to see what he can do with Maclin in this offense.
What are you mad at? That the Eagles might trade or cut Desean Jackson or that they signed Cooper and Maclin to new contracts?
