Ray Rice can kick his Fiancé ### and not be released. Cooper can can be himself. Vick can run illegal dog-fights. Peters can drag race ect.... but DeSean can't pose for pictures? And rep his hood (which you knew about from day 1).

The NFL doesn't gaf about these guys. Now do they care about $36M?

I still don't think Desean is out in the clear. Cooper's contract could still mean we don't pay him 12M+ the next few seasons.
He's gone but it wasn't about money.

They're paying $6mil against their precious cap to tell him to go away. So not money.
Ok. I believe this has nothing to do with Foles, Kendricks, Cox and Boynkins next contract and the upcoming draft class at WR which the GM has been raving about to the public.
Which we would have gotten had they cut Desean next year when he would sign those guys.
Had DeSean been cut next year he would have been $4M in dead money instead of $6M and the team would have spent $10M on him they could have used in other ways.

People don't take into account that $10M is real money and everything isn't about the cap. You can manipulate the cap in a lot of ways, like restructuring guys to give them more money this year and lower the cap in future years.
They signed everyone they were willing to this year. I doubt anyone else was getting resigned when they have a nice cap number. If this was before free agency, I'd agree about getting $10 mil back. Now its rookies and any intriguing salary cuts. They were already at $18mil cap space. This will put them at $22mil.

Not much difference when the alternative is having a pro bowl wide receiver on your squad for the year all things being equal. Which they are not in this situation.
The new rules let you carry over unused cap into next season. Like when it's time to pay Foles.

Yeah, Kelce's other tweets seem to support D-Jax so I'm not so sure. I don't feel good about this move(even though I did not like his cap hit), but a good draft will quickly change my mind.

Which is why there probably is another shoe to drop in the Desean thing. Howie and Lurie are not talking. That says a lot.

What's the difference between cap space now rolled over vs cap space next year when you cut him then?

It tells me that either there is another shoe to drop still or that this was a very baffling thing to keep quiet about.

Marqise Lee, Brandin Cooks, or Odell Beckham, Jr. as possible options now with the No. 22 overall pick?

Hopefully not Lee, overrated IMO. Beckham in the first is too high for me at 22.
With the draft this deep at WR I don't see the need for the Eagles to take a WR at 22.

Also, none of them fit the bigger WR that Kelly likes.

Was Desean being pulled over by state police after signing his recent contract made public at the time and I missed it or is this new info?

This sucks. I understand that the team has to consider the big picture here, but it still sucks. Maybe I'll feel better about it come draft day.
Agree completely.

Maclin, Sproles, two TE sets, blah blah.

DJax's deep speed stretched defenses. Can't believe we got nothing at all for him after a pro bowl season!

I'm wondering what role the league office had in this. They had to have gotten some kind of trade offer at the league meeting even with that contract.

I'm wondering if Park Avenue gave the signal to cut him loose after the AHernandez debacle.

Also, wondering if the Park Avenue will approve any contract he signs.

One things for sure, no one is scared about the gang related story. 6 teams already calling...
Are we sure that isn't the agent leaking news about "lots of calls"?
I'm sure teams are inquiring, but that doesn't mean they'll all be comfortable making offers until the full story comes out(unless the Eagles have told other teams).
Supposedly, Ron Rivera has said teh Panthers would be interested.

So, you cut Steve Smith because he didn't get along with Cam and now you want to bring in a guy with this baggage?

Horrible move, maybe one that is the undoing of Chip Kelly. Dude has a career year and you cut him but rave about Maclin who has never been more than average? Chip, Chip, Chip. I think this is better news for Cooper and Sproles than Maclin.

But he can run them twice as fast.

@ProFootballTalk: League says gang signs could trigger discipline, has no comment on DeSean Jackson's alleged use of them http://t.co/fdXE4CyxFx

@SigmundBloom: The appearance of this story seemed to coincide w the rumors of DJax's trade/release: http://t.co/gt7ieerBGh

@DonteStallworth: But... the situation surrounding Aaron Hernandez has changed things. If teams THINK you're affiliated, then you're already guilty.

I'd take Cooks/ODB at pick #22 if they went that route. Cooks is the closest thing to DJax in the draft and actually had slightly better combine numbers. Also said to be very high character and I think he's much more physical than DeSean was. Odell Beckham, Jr. isn't really a vertical threat, but he's really good after the catch (hello WR screens and drag routes), great hands, strong, and a very willing blocker.

Paul Richardson, Martavis Bryant, Cody Latimer are speedy options on day 2. Latimer put up some crazy numbers at his pro day after missing the combine due to a foot injury. 6'2"/215 lbs., ran a 4.38, 39" vertical, put up 23 reps on the bench. Also played in an uptempo spread at Indiana.

Point is, the chances of Eagles drafting a damn good receiver are high.

Yeah, they weren't comfortable for a trade and I'd be surprised if they were that gung ho to go try and sign him this fast. There really has to be something more to this...

Will Eagles target bigger WR in draft to replace DeSean Jackson?By Bryan Fischer

College Football 24/7 writer

NFL Media analyst Charles Davis wrote Wednesday about some of the top draft fits for the Eagles if the team was to break up with wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

Turns out it was quite the prescient bit of work.

The team cut the Pro Bowl receiver on Friday, and while Chip Kelly's offense is flexible enough to accommodate a number of different types of players, the team no doubt lost a talented playmaker and will now have to replace him -- possibly through the draft.

"This is a deep draft with wide receivers so you have a lot of options in different rounds," analyst Charley Casserly said on NFL Network. "But there may be other positions that are more valuable to them that they may have to look at with this football team, maybe on the defensive side of the ball. If there's an outside linebacker, pass rusher, a corner, a safety."

Recent mock drafts by NFL Media analysts do have Philadelphia opting for a defensive player in the first round at No. 22 overall. The release of Jackson might not completely alter their draft strategy, but they would have options if Kelly wants an impact receiver in the first round.

Among those that Davis thinks could fit the team in the first round are LSU's Odell Beckham, Oregon State's Brandin Cooks, Florida State's Kelvin Benjamin and USC's Marqise Lee. Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper are still on the roster, so the Eagles could be satisfied with their options in the speed-receiver department and opt to find a bigger, more physical pass-catcher through the draft.

"Replacing that speed is important but I think Chip Kelly seems to like size in his receivers," Casserly added. "You can create separation in more than one way, size being one of them."

That makes Kelly's visit to Texas A&M's pro day on Thursday that much more notable. While some might have assumed he was there to watch a quarterback he had once recruited in Johnny Manziel, the presence of receiver Mike Evans might have been the real reason he made the trek to College Station. A physically imposing receiver, Evans told CFB 24/7: Path to the Draft he also scheduled a visit to Philadelphia to meet with the team prior to the draft.

Either way, Kelly will have a number of different options he can pick from to replace Jackson. Knowing Kelly, he'll probably go the route that's least expected.

Do you purposely not understand any situation or is it just natural?

Per Eskin on WIP:

1) Chiefs were contacted a month ago. Reid said no.

2) Jackson's out of money. He was pushing for a new contract because he needed the signing bonus money.

3) This is just the tip of the iceberg as more will come out in the next month or so.

:goodposting:

And particularly :lmao: @ "the undoing of Chip." Chip Kelly could take a dump on Lurie's desk and still be safe. For years.

They probably had to do it, but it casts a light on the fact that he has done nothing to improve the talent level of the roster other than coach up Foles, and that was semi-reluctantly. Picks will go to replacing DeSean. The defense will continue to be mediocre. He has to hit in the draft a lot better than Lane Johnson and Earl Wolff to even be a Ray Rhodes level success.

If Jackson did indeed have gang affiliations, and missed meetings hanging with said friends, I have absolutely no problem with this move.

Guys who openly support and affiliate with gangs SHOULD have a hard time getting and keeping a job, and an NFL roster should be no different. Huge KUDOS to Kelly and the Eagles brass for making a tough move.

I'm not arguing over the Tao of Chip Kelly. But you can be a "great football mind" and still fail in the NFL. Rhodes was a slight net + for the franchise (two playoff runs, left the defense with a lot of talent) in a short stay, and at this point Kelly is not guaranteed to provide any more than that. At this point we are just resigning the good players Reid signed and adding stopgap players on defense. Granted it is too early to call, and I'm sure they have a plan for the draft, but success is not guaranteed based on one 10-6 season.

He must have been a huge cancer in that locker room:

Jason Kelce @Jkelce Follow

We just made an extremely unpopular decision, but I couldn't be more excited and happy with where this organization is going!! #FlyEaglesFly
This is all I needed to see. Do what you have to do and continue to build this thing the way Chip wants it built. That is what the Eagles are paying him for. Sink or swim, but make a decision and if you go down, go down doing it your way.

You serious, Clark?

I'm no Eagles homer but I have a pretty hard time giving Kelly anything less than a rock solid "A" for year one. What exactly were you expecting here?

Would give Rhodes an A for year one too.

I would have expected better moves in FA and better draft picks. The stuff he did great in college he is doing great in the NFL. The stuff he didn't have to do in college he gets an incomplete, and that is substantial to future success. You can't win with mediocre talent, and the talent level for the team is very mediocre now outside of Peters (prob most valuable position) and McCoy (one of the least valuable).

My concern stems from how they'll use the draft picks now that they've added another huge need. We need an edge rusher. We need CB/S. No reason to think they'll do what the SEA did and pull those out of the 5th round, but I would be glad to be wrong.

From the outside looking in, seems to me you might be asking too much, personally. One year is too little time to pass judgement on last year's draft class, and throwing around piles of cash at free agents typically hasn't been the magic bullet for too many NFL teams. I'm much more of a fan of building through the draft. The DeSean thing is definitely confusing to me, but at this point IMO Kelly gets the benefit of the doubt.

Maybe I'm just more patient with coaches d/t being a Steelers fan, but Kelly sure looks like a keeper to me thus far.

@AlbertBreer: Worth mentioning -- It wasn't the media connecting Jackson to unsavory characters in the http://t.co/mYugFjPYMc story. It was the LAPD.

@CSNPhilly: From @gonzoCSN, the Eagles are better off without the enigmatic DeSean Jackson. Column: http://t.co/IIWCInbIGk #EaglesTalk

@JordanRaanan: Bottom line with DeSean, who I've always had positive interaction with, the company he keeps is a problem if he's on the LAPD radar.

@SeniorBowlPhil: IMO, don't see a team signing @DeseanJackson10 before next week. Interested teams will do background homework and make calls to PHI/KC.

@SeniorBowlPhil: For PHI, see DEF at #22 and WR in 2nd, 3rd or 4th rds: Allen Robinson/PSU, Jordan Matthews/Vandy, Paul Richardson/Colorado, Josh Huff/UO.

@SeniorBowlPhil: At #22, likely targets for @eagles will include Anthony Barr/UCLA, Dee Ford/AU, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix/Ala, Darqueze Dennard/MSU, Kyle Fuller/VT.

This one is just funny:

@SeanBarkey: Wherever Mark Sanchez goes, the front office gets rid of offensive weapons!

@AlbertBreer: Issues w/gangs have been on the league's radar for a long time -- NFL brought in FBI and DEA agents in 2007 to make a presentation to teams.

@AlbertBreer: During the 2-hour presentation, the FBI and DEA explained to NFL clubs how to see gang affiliation thru tattoos, hand signals, other coding.

@AlbertBreer: That's not to say DeSean is or isn't involved. Or even that Hernandez was or wasn't. Just that the clubs/NFL are very sensitive to gang ties

@ByDavidMurphy: Eagles security's job is to find #### out and fix it. They have serious connects. Teams don't act against self-interest for the hell of it

The league is more up-tempo and pass-heavy these days, I never buy these historical comparisons when talking about QB/WR/TE's.
