The exit interview (or lack of) may have sealed his fate but this all about $. The team is not gonna pay a guy more than an Andre Johsnon type of player who has one trick--speed. He won't learn all the routes and that's a problem for Kelly too. No team was gonna give a 7th while having to pick up 10 million this year.
That doesn't mean I think the organization handled this well.
I just can't get behind something like this. I'm sure NFL teams spend a ton of time, money and man hours into knowing who their players are. As time wears on the facts get blurred and before you know it D-Jax will be a victim. If you dont believe a billon dollar copmpany does their homework on a guy than factor in that they couldnt move him for any pick...I know some will mention the money but not a single report came out saying we even had a taker. He could have also re-done his deal and didnt. We also took a 6 million dollar cap hit to get rid of him. We also know that he seemed to be a jerkoff in the locker room and as a person. And he was making 10+ million per year. How complete of a WR is he?
There was a ton of reasons why he was cut.
We made him what he is...and we get to listen to and read glorious reports in the papper and talk radio about how bad it is that we have to see him 2x per year while Skins fans rejoice....Getting the sense like you've seen this before? McNabb and Trotter worked out so well for them. This will be the same. They have a #1 WR, they wont cater to Desean. By week 10 he's a problem (if its a multiyear deal**) and then we'll all be reminded of why we got rid of him.
**If he gets more per year this year than Garcon I push the problem date up to week 5
One of the key things Desean supposedly lacked was motivation. You don't think he's going to be more motivated than he ever has after being "dissed" by a now division rival? I hate to go against a motivated Desean.
I just can't understand how they botched their own position. They want him gone. Fine. They were so worried about how they'd look with the fans that they put out all of this material through "sources" to justify releasing him if it came to that. At the same time, they made it clear that they had no leverage with a trade. A team wouldn't even give a 7th rounder to have Desean for a year because they knew the eagles were going to release him.
Its over now and I do believe going forward it will be for the best but I won't understand how you can't make it work for a year while you get a rookie up to speed or at least get anything for a pro bowl wr who had 82-1330-9.
He'll be motivated for a game...maybe 2 depending on the teams records the second time around. Money motivates him, it's crystal clear. Much like McNabb and Trotter before him he goes to an inferior team, second worst in the league if memory serves me. When McNabb went I think they were top 4 bad as well. We hold onto our players more than any other city IMO. Was he good? Sure. But that was here that was with him being the #1 WR. How will his ego do on a crap team when he's not getting the ball?
I don't see it as botched at all. That's what people want to believe. In the eyes of Eagle fans our front office never does right by players like this (Dawkins, Trotter, McNabb, T.O. etc) and everyone is Banner esque. I'm not saying you're like that because I know you arent but after hearing it so long you're bound to buy in a little bit. It was the right move for all the reasons I previously explained. Only 2 teams showed interest....shockingly it was the Skins and Raiders...
It is what it is. It's hard to see now how his numbers will be replaced but even before seeing them play without Jackson you have to think a combo of Sproles, Maclin, rookie WR and the emergence of Ertz will make his numbers up and then some. Our QB is whats going to make or break this team, not a WR like Jackson.
