That was an exciting game to watch, but I felt like we stole it. WTF was up with Bradley- don't think I've ever seen him play so poorly!

We might esape the group now, but losing Altidore dooms any faint hope of a win after that.

Four Manhattan game, BTW. Brooks goal came about 2 minutes after fourth drink was mixed.
Well, there's your mark....please get to four a little sooner, eh?
Does it have to be Scoob? I can get to 4 Manhattans by the 6' mark if I have to.
Yes.

He needs to get pissed off Manhattan's and Andy can't post during the games. :juju:
I'm your Huckleberry.

I have not read any comments since the game started. I stood/paced the entire game :(

Here are some random thoughts

* I have no idea how the US won this game. The US was outplayed in every phase and when Ghana broke though for the score, I was sure a second was coming from them.

* Bradley had an off game, which makes the win all that much more amazing

* Someone needs to really pat Fab on the back. Most players give up on that ball and his commotion caused the corner that won the game.

* Not having a second target forward is a mess. Bacon is not built for that role and he struggled. Wondo is not the answer. I dare say EJ might have come in handy right now.

* Kyle Mother####ing Beckerman. Great game he played which emphasized his strengths

* Ignoring the goal he scored, Brooks was solid defendively. Just one miscue but was solid otherwise

* DMB was being treated like a top by Atsu but god bless him, he kept with it.

* Bedoya was decent in the first half and worked hard defensively in the second but we are lucky Zusi subbed in. His best skill is delivering a good set piece and his corner was flawless.

* It goes with out saying the US has to play much better to get a point off of Portugal.

* Whew and get rest for the players.

It's time for your favorite game show "HELP AN IDIOT!"

Can the US sub in another player in the event of injury that is not currently on the roster?

These post game questions are so bad. I'd love to hear this:

Schaap: "Tim, what were you thinking when Ghana scored?"

Howard: "It was awesome. I was so tired of playing with the lead. I hate clean sheets. I don't change them if I take a dump in my bed. Ghana, baby. Ghana."

Schaap: "And when you guys went back on top?"

Howard: "Ugh, that sucked. I was really hoping for a draw. We were really hoping to go into the Germany game with one point, so we'd need a win just to have a prayer. I'm so pissed at Brooks right now. I'm going to go tie him down and shave his pubes."

Schaap: "Thanks, Tim."

As a Canadian I cheer hard for US in the world cup. Although it was not their best performance they got the result and that is what is important. Even though it was not their best game they did played organized and defended well for the most part.

Bradley will be better next game. His distribution was bad and he usually helps with possession much more. He is too good of a player to not bounce back from a sub par game.

Ghana is no joke. They are relentless and could very well steal points from Portugal and quite possibly against Germany (with some luck). You can't down play that win for USA.

Great start and got the job done.

Schaap takes his job way too seriously imo

Nope.
Landon Donovan: happy or sad to see JA get hurt?
The guys who might have a case for being unfairly left off because they could play Jozys role are Eddie Johnson or Terrence Boyd.
JK kept calling LD a forward

hence the IDIOT part, thanks. I thought they played the same position.

You get that there are different kinds of forwards, right? Bacon is a forward, but he's not a hold-up forward. It's like asking Messi to do the same things as Benzema.

Ghana had possession 59-41. For a lot of the second half, our offense was missing in action. Poor passing, nothing much developing.

There is no way the USA deserved to win this game. But, a couple of brilliant plays can make up for a lot of mediocrity. Soccer is like that. And the chances have gone the other way for the US, too.

I'll take the moral defeat, and rejoice in the undeserved victory!

Dude, it's fine to have questions. It's like football. Two guys might be wide receivers, but a deep guy and a possession guy play different roles.

 I thought they deserved it - did not give up many good chances, and took their own chances well.

Things that *could* go right for the US:

--Bradley returns to form

--Portugal isn't athletic enough to press as well as Ghana

--Dempsey, Besler, Bedoya are all fully fit

--Portugal saves us the trouble, and implodes

Yeah, I didn't think Ghana created many chances other than the goal. And the goal was great. Hard to fault the defense on that. I wish the US had kept possession better, but the CBs played really well.

Not sure I agree. Sure, the gave up a lot of possession. But Ghana didn't really do a lot with it.

Can't hurt for all of us to do this.

Portugal doesn't usually press. Fabian and Bedoya could have a field day down that right side, though.
