I thought the same thing. Not sure if its part of the master plan to keep the reins on Cutler, but they have started games pretty slowly.I haven't been that impressed with Gase over most of the second half of the season. They're not tricking anyone.
I wouldn't touch Kaepernick or RGIII. I don't want that type of offense where it relies more on your QB's running ability then his passing. I love watching Carolina, but I don't think either of those other two have developed as a passer as much as Cam, and I don't think there is a prayer they can be as durable as him. I don't see them working long term. Are there any benched QBs the Bears should consider going after in the offseason? Kaepernick, RGIII, and Glennon can all possibly be acquired. Anyone else?
Lolz. The Bears won't be in contention for the division title for years.mbuehner said:Cant get enough of this thread. Langford just saved you 10 million dollars youd have to spend on Forte, youve got a serviceable backup on the cheap in Carey, Alshon is true WR1, you've got a handful of defensive players including Amos, McFee, and Goldman to build around, and probably your most dynamic player was hurt all season. Oh and thats with one abbreviated offseason to work with, and an unreal amount of dead wood. Anybody that doesnt see this as a glass half full situation is just looking for reasons for failure. Its the cubs syndrome, were going to suck because we always suck.
and McPhee was our best defender.Safe to say Pace had a great draft but blew it in FA. Ball, Royal, and Rolle have all been a waste.
Been hurt most of season as well. Had a few good games. I'd say Goldman and Young have been our best defenders.DaveL said:and McPhee was our best defender.flapgreen said:Safe to say Pace had a great draft but blew it in FA. Ball, Royal, and Rolle have all been a waste.

I'm going 4-12. My biggest question is what week do I start my "GIMMIE JIMMY" campaign.
The only way I would ever be happy with 2-14 is if the wins came against GB and the final one was a week 17 win that ended GB's playoff chances. A 6-10 season the next year wouldn't be that hard to swallow, hell that's 1 more win than they had last year, and 1 more win than I expect in 2015. I've been way off base before and will be in the future I'm sure, but IMO the Bears are going to suck in '15/'16 anyway.
Over/under is fair at 6 games.
Thought this was interesting as well.I don't think it's unrealistic to expect 8-8. Better coaching staff and have added some good players.

BEAR DOWN
Sure we will probably get abused by that **** Rodgers and sure we will probably be picking in the top 5 but it's opening day, the grass is green, the sun is shining and we haven't lost yet. So I'm ####in pumped (for now)
What really makes this thread funny is that the years Chicago's fortunes were on the rise you caught a lot of heat for being their biggest detractor. And apparently at the exact moment they fell off a cliff and you became the glass half full guy. I love you flap, but you're pyscho. This is not a bottom 5 team. Even after the debacle that was last season, the Bears didn't finish in the bottom 5, yet I keep reading how they will get a top 5 pick next year. They're not nearly as bad as they're being made out to be.
Yeah you're right. I don't handle the ups and downs well. Were we really pessimists if turns out our predictions were pretty accurate?

I would say this, the o-line stinks. You have Bennett gone. You have Jeffrey playing at half speed. You are playing fourth and fifth string WRs. Isn't much that you can do with this. Gase is a professional, well-respected offensive mind. We have had a long list of mediocre to awful offensive coordinators. I wouldn't be so fast to shove this guy out the door.flapgreen said:Gase has shown that he's not a very good play caller over the last half of the season. Someone go ahead and take him.
Fangio isn't going anywhere. I'm not saying Gase is an awful offensive coordinator, just that it's not going to crush the offense to lose him. His play calling has not been good and teams started figuring it out weeks ago. Injuries or not, they haven't been very good and are in bottom third of league in points and most everything else. He has 3 solid rbs and has all but ditched the run game recently at a time of year when you need to run it. I'm no longer impressed with the guy like I was. They are starting to acquire some young talent that could stay around a while. The worrisome thing is the team has gotten worse as the year has went along and is ending on a bad note. That's not a good thing. Every team has injuries. The one thing I feel some optimism about is that they do have some young talent on this team. I didn't feel that way last year. We hope Kevin White is all he is advertised to be. If they keep Jeffrey, and I think they will, they have a decent pair of receivers. Langford has been decent. Long has struggled, but if he continues to struggle you just move him back to guard and he is a Pro Bowler again. Goldman, Amos, McPhee, Young, and Fuller could be a core to build around defensively. They think they have some talent on the offensive line, despite the struggles. We will see if that is true. But at least the cupboard isn't bare.
Didn't deserve any. Not even close. No pro bowlers for the bears this year![]()
I think Fangio will be gone. He has done a masterful job getting this team to a middle of the road defense despite one playmaker on the whole defense. And that playmaker, McPhee, has missed a number of weeks. The prior two years they were putrid. Considering what he had to work with he has done a really good job. I think other NFL teams have seen that and realize how good he is. I hope he stays. I hope they both stay. I think Gase and Fangio are both very good. There have been some pretty good defensive coordinators in Chicago. Examples might be Ron Rivera from 2004-2006, or Marinelli from 2010-2012. But the offensive coordinators have been really bad. The last few were Aaron Kromer, Mike Tice, Mike Martz, Ron Turner, Terry Shea, and John Shoop. That is not exactly a murders row of offensive brainpower. Remember when Lovie picked Martz because no one else wanted the job? I don't want to revisit that. So I would be very happy if the Bears could hold on to Gase.Fangio isn't going anywhere. I don't disagree with any of this. I've just read a lot of places that most don't view Fangio as a head coachI think Fangio will be gone. We weren't looking at the same things then.I actually thought Shea was pretty good Sunday. He seemed to be in on a lot.
I know it's hard to believe, but I'm going to have to disagree with you here. Unless by most important player going forward you mean him being on a different team's roster, then I agree.Like him or not, Cutler has been the best player on the Bears this year and is probably the most important player going forward.
