BTW, the APs choice was ridiculous anyway. LSU had more wins against teams that finished in the poll's own top-10 and in their own top-25 and the Tiger's loss was also to a team that also finished in their top-25. Meanwhile USC lost to team that didn't even finish in the "others receiving votes" list.

I was obviously talking about what the AP did after the BCS game determined the champion. You said they were 'lucky' as if they were somehow hurt by the AP selecting someone different.

I'm actually a little surprised that there's regular junkies in here arguing that the voted on by sportswriters winner is just as valid as the played on the field winner.
I didn't say I thought it was valid...just that it will always be recognized.

Literally nobody has said that

That's true, but since that didn't really work, everybody signed up for the BCS system in order to determine a champion.  That made it unmistakably clear who the champion was.(for better or for worse)  USC couldn't even make the top 2 that year, so they have no business being called a champion.
not to mention that the AP poll was a part of the formula to the BCS championship game that USC/Pac 10 signed up for.

"Yeah we're onboard with the BCS.  One true champion, no more of those stupid split national championships."

"Err wait, axe that, split NC but this year only!  Count it!"

If the AP poll voted Ohio State 1st last year, would you say they're National Champions?
I'm not sure why you're making this about me. It's a fact USC has a recognized national title that year, as angry as that may make you. Blame the idiotic system that was in place at the time, and don't compare it to the playoff.

ALways was partial to Minnesota's tandem of Marion Barber III and Laurence Maroney.  Maroney would just glide in the open field.

Reggie Bush/Lindale White pretty good.

Marshawn Lynch/Justin Forsett not bad

Emmitt Smith and Willie McClendon

Who is Willie McClendon? It doesn't matter.

What was the stable of RBs Miami had at one point? Portis, James, and one other I can't recall.

Nebraska had some silly-talented RBs on the team at the same time

McGahee, Gore.

Yikes. Although Gore didn't play much cause of injury.
So, it was Portis, McGahee, Gore? Or all four? It all runs together for me anymore.

USC had about a 20 year run where it seemed like they always had a Heisman candidate in the wings when another would graduate. I think my favorite was Sam "The Bam" Cunningham (Randall's older brother, IIRC). That dude had an apt nickname - he was a damned beast.

Those 3. i think edge was in the league for a couple years already.

Payton Hillis was on that Arkansas team with McFadden and Jones. Maybe not the best ever, but pretty salty.

Bought my plane ticket and game tickets for the Oregon game at Nebraska this week.  Going with 5-6 friends.  Can't wait to experience the gameday atmosphere at Nebraska.  I have heard Nebraska fans are very hospitable.

As a PSU fan, I hope you beat Nebraska.

I don't think any of the available schools bring much to the table in terms or tv markets or anything like that. That's why they are available. They should go after the school's with the best overall athletic programs. Houston is a no-brainer imo.
Houston's been better than Cincinnati for all of 1 year and do you want to compare the basketball programs?

I totally get all the back room deals and politics that will drive this, but Houston isn't better at sports than Cincinnati unless you're measuring 1 season of 1 sport.

Getting a Big 12 invite would be fantastic for CSU. They have a new stadium coming and lots of people in region from Texas and Oklahoma. CU is really struggling in the Pac both on the field and off. Doing OK on the court. A good TV contract would really pick up Denver viewers - that Pac 10 network is not working for CU in the Denver area. The money is there for CU but not the old buzz. The transient Colorado resident doesn't get hyped by CU sports anymore. CSU would be a good addition in football and basketball - the Bball program has played really well in tough MWC. And the football program could really use a lifeline to the playoffs - it's always been the trouble with the MWC never getting into the playoff/BCS mix. Adding BYU at the same time would help on a rivalry level as well - they used to have some good games back in the day.

Hey man, they had Phi Slamma Jamma just 34 years ago!

Moving the semi finals off of New Year's Eve is just a little smart.
Here are the dates of the future semifinals (asterisks indicate years when the schedule has been changed):

In other important news, Rutgers and Maryland are in preliminary discussions to have a trophy for their historic and popular rivalry.  They are looking for name ideas, the Guido Bowl would work.  Atlantic Beef Bowl maybe?

Will there be a champions ring?

Current Florida head coach Jim McElwain also released a statement on Spurrier's return.

"I look forward to visiting with him on a lot of occasions and picking his brain on a number of issues," McElwain said. "It's a credit to Jeremy to get him back home where he belongs. More than anything I look forward to actually talking to him and being around him rather than just saying hello to his statue on my way to work every day."
Careful what you wish for Jim. The man is likely to have some opinions on your offense.

Most. But some can get a little testy when you roll in there and win.

Baylor rape victims say the university told women who attempted to report their assaults that their parents would be informed of their alcohol or drug use under the student conduct code and in some circumstances were themselves charged with code violations, according to the Associated Press.

Baylor’s student code banned dancing until 1996 and only last year removed “fornication,” “adultery,” and “homosexual acts” from its official list of misconduct. Victims say Baylor even punished women who tried to report assaults that happened to other victims:

One woman said her case began when she called police to report a physical assault on another woman at an off-campus party. Police demanded to know if she was underage and had been drinking, then arrested and reported her to the school office that investigates conduct code violations, she said. She told Baylor officials her drinking was a result of being raped a month earlier and detailed what happened in person and in a letter.

She received an alcohol code violation and told to do 25 hours community service, and when she tried to appeal, the woman said Baylor officials urged her to drop it. The school never pursued her rape claim.

“I was told by many Baylor staff that they couldn’t do anything for me because my assault was off campus, yet they had no problem punishing me for my off-campus drinking,” the woman said.

Universities are required by federal law to investigate sexual assaults, whether they happen on- or off-campus, and feds informed Baylor in 2011 that its conduct policy may have a chilling effect on sexual assault reporting. Being caught drinking alcohol is cause for expulsion under Baylor’s student conduct policy.

Pepper Hamilton’s report cited the policy as “creating barriers” to victims reporting their assaults, due both to fears of being punished and those of parental informing.
