About the kneel at the end of the first half, I still can't figure out what was going on. It wasn't a one time thing. He kneeled before he grabbed the refs head, and after I was done yelling at the tv, he did it again. Unexplainable.
I just watched it again, not sure what he was trying to do on the first snap but he didn't completely kneel down. It looked like he took the snap and almost spiked it but he looked confused. Probably because the ball was snapped before the ref started the clock again. Then he fondled Walt Coleman. Then Philly took a timeout. Chip complained to Coleman about something, maybe he was arguing Kirk should be ejected for touching him, because he walked away with a look like "Seriously? You're wasting my time with that?" Then the ball was snapped for real and Kirk kneeled then half-spiked then tried to run to the end zone.
:lmao:
 I'm gonna need some more details on this fondling. Is there video anywhere?

If you look real close and read his lips, you can see Kirk saying, "You like that."

Not sure if there is any truth to the rumor, but I understand later on that evening Chris Cooley called Coleman a "backstabbing b*tch."

:P

Carrier (TE)

Will Blackmon

Quinton Dunbar

Mason Foster

Pierre Thomas

Who else did McCloughan bring in during the year who actually helped out? All 5 of those guys listed did more than anyone thought they'd do.
Dustin Hopkins.

Also, the draft looks very strong so far:

Brandon Scherff

Preston Smith, who is looking much better lately

Matt Jones

Jamison Crowder

Kyshoen Jarrett
Scherff has been OK. He started every game and you only heard his name once or twice a game; that's pretty good for a rookie lineman. And he's improving. Solid player

Preston Smith REALLY came on the last 3 games or so. They've got a good player there.

I'm still unsure about Matt Jones. Too many 0-yard runs, too much putting the ball on the ground. If there's a hole there he's very good but if he has to hesitate he usually gets nailed.

Crowder is unexpectedly good.

Jarrett has been a lifesaver.

Have to give some props to Gruden. Thought he was a complete and total doofus in way over his head. Now I think he is just a minor doofus.

I have been away for the Christmas Holidays, so haven't had a chance to post. Congrats on beating the Eagles and winning the division, good luck to you guys in the playoffs.

What do you guys think? 3 quarters for Cousins? Half? I really want the win. I think at least 3 quarters. 9-7 division winner is much better than 8-8.

Either way though, 2 titles in 4 years. 3 playoffs in 10. No more asterisk 2012, so nothing since 05 talk. Glad we have something to build on.

I want a half at least. The team is still a work in progress. So unless he is taking a ton of hits, i would like most starters to play. Maybe not Djax though. :-)

Any starter who is banged up I'd like to rest up, otherwise treat it like the 3rd preseason game.

Agreed. Guys that are questionable going into the game, just let them rest. I'd love to get Trent some rest, but I believe if you rest him, you have to rest Cousins as well.

Possibly, but Ty Nsekhe has played well this year, seeing him get some playtime might be good too and wouldn't necessarily be a liability.

I really don't like the idea of resting players unless a win is in the bag. I don't think a win against Dallas will be in the bag at any point in the game. They already beat us once and made us look ineffective. Ending your regular season looking mediocre or bad isn't the way this particular team needs to go in to the playoffs. They feel that they're on a streak where they're getting better game-by-game; you can hear it when the players talk. I think they need the momentum of a hard-fought win more than they need to rest to heal or prevent injuries. If they were a veteran team used to winning, I'd feel differently.

Stuff from John Keim. I wasn't aware of how well Cousins was playing relative to other QB's lately.

In last 9 games, only 2 QBs have fewer INTs than K.Cousins (Alex Smith, Tyrod Taylor). KC has 64 more attempts than AS, 85 more than TT
In last 9 games, Cousins' QBR is 5th; his passer rating is second, trailing only Russell Wilson. KC's 20 TDs rank eighth in this stretch.

I believe it. There were several times in the PHI game when we were going pass-pass-pass and getting into 3rd and longs and I thought, "No big deal." Like I had complete confidence in Kirk's ability to find a receiver 10+ yards down the field and get him the ball, even with the defense knowing a pass was coming. Any reasonable distance was makeable. It was the kind of feeling you get watching other teams who are built to throw with great QB's.

Have to give some props to Gruden. Thought he was a complete and total doofus in way over his head. Now I think he is just a minor doofus.
I was a huge Gruden basher last season. He has made some big time strides. Some quick thoughts:

1. Gruden really put his hide on the line by hiring Joe Barry. Reports were McCloughan and others wanted Gruden to hire a more established DC.

2. Gruden was known early on to want someone other than Griffin at QB. Gruden went out on a limb, pressing for Cousins and then named him the starter for the season (not a week to week tryout) two weeks before the season started.

There have been a lot of other improvements, but these two show that Gruden does have an idea of what he wants to do and how to get there.

Gruden has also improved on

in-game adjustments (still not great at it but is improved)

coming out of halftime better (started during the Tampa game when he tore the team a new ####### at the half)

cutting down on delay penalties

being so damn predictable on offense

not lashing out at bad player performances in public

not being so conservative with a lead

not bailing on the run game so quickly

Up til halftime of the Tampa game he looked like a dead man walking to me, and I was quite down on him. Things have noticeably improved since then.

Congrast Washington fans!

question though:

If the eagles had ripped the Redskins

and then the Redskins showed poorly next week

is it fair to say Gruden could have been in trouble?

just curious. In this craphole of a division I was hypothesizing the only way a coach could be safe was to make the playoffs, which to his credit Gruden did.

If Cousins had a complete.meltdown it could have been possible. Gruden's fate this year was tied to Cousins' performance as soon as he named him the starter for the year.

If the Redskins got beat 38-24 by the Eagles, and followed up by getting smashed by the Cowboys, Gruden might have been on thin ice. I don't think he would have been fired though. There was a noticeable turnaround in the team's performance starting partway through this year, and Gruden gets some credit for that. I think they still would have kept him, hoping to build on the progress made during the season (plus another year of McCloughan player acquisitions).

Just curious.

Congrats though. cousins looks legit, and if you have that piece solved that's a huge chunk. Knocking the Eagles out to win it must feel extra nice :)

Thanks, it certainly does feel good. 3 wins in a row against them; knocked them out of the playoffs 2 years in a row; and actually made the playoffs ourselves.

And sent their coach/gm packing ;)

although there's probably mixed feelings there!

jeesh. that eagles thread is a trainwreck. shame on you if you 'contributed' to that clusterfook of a thread lately.
the franchise is in turmoil. Fans expected Kelly to stay, and were defending him. Now abruptly he is gone and chaos erupts, which brings out the trolls.

I've never seen so many posters who insist on having the last word in the same thread.
I bit my tongue a couple times reading through it, but it just ain't worth it.
Much appreciated....it's ridiculous. We used to have alot of good info in there but the trolling is out of control.

I think Gruden would have been safe in any scenario.

The team has made huge improvements over the course of the season. I think McCloughan is a patient GM and really would need Gruden to show he is not the right guy for the job. Also, the Redskins have had a lot of injuries, which team has overcome. It speaks volumes to the guys McCloughan has brought in, but is also speaks volumes for Gruden and the whole coaching staff on the job they have done.

It is hard to imagine after watching last year's trainwreck, but Gruden has done a pretty good job.

FYI, a list of the Redskins on injured reserve. Note that Kory Litchensteiger is not on the list and is scheduled to return for the playoffs.

So, lets just say they rest Cousins on Sunday. Keep him healthy for the playoffs and all. Would they be forced to dress RG3? As far as I know, Cousins, Colt and Robert are the only 3 QBs on the roster. Or am I missing someone?

Aren't they still at risk from the injury thing on RG3?

I don't think they dress him no matter what. Imagine if he gets into a game and gets smashed and they have to pay him next season.

I think they would play McCoy and Cousins would be his backup
