Track has moved well inland for Hermine. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_at4.shtml?5-daynl#contents
You might need to start your car to stay warm!Hermine's jog to the west is bad news for Charleston and possibly other parts North. Increased chances to be on the "wrong side" (East/Southeast) of the tropical storm.
Folks need to be paying attention to this storm because it is intensifying and approaching some shallow warm water.
On a lighter note, local news has told me to prep for the storm by filling up my tank with gas and staying off the roads. What?
Yep. When they were showing it passing to the east it was one thing, but an inland track is going to dump more rain on the Charleston area ... and the midlands.Hermine's jog to the west is bad news for Charleston and possibly other parts North. My son is at USF. Teacher canceled his class yesterday. School canceled all classes today. I'm sure classes will be packed tomorrow before the 3 day weekend.Nothing too bad in Tampa, yet anyway. Schools are closed today and most are working from home if they can...but no serious issues.
Nice. I'm catching up on some mock drafts for my real one tomorrow night. My son is at USF. Teacher canceled his class yesterday. School canceled all classes today. I'm sure classes will be packed tomorrow before the 3 day weekend.
Guess I better keep a closer eye on this thing then.Yep. When they were showing it passing to the east it was one thing, but an inland track is going to dump more rain on the Charleston area ... and the midlands.
Sure but that also means the winds are picking up speed out of the South and these first bands are packing a punch. I just got off the phone with Ma, she's on the 50 going East towards Orlando trying to get away from this mess. Taking the Turnpike South once she gets across the state, hopefully I don't have to send a search and rescue.Just strengthened from TS to hurricane, though landfall is near so it won't be able to tighten up much.
Oh, I wasn't trying to minimize it. Just that it doesn't have enough time to Cat-up a lot. It's still going to be rough.Sure but that also means the winds are picking up speed out of the South and these first bands are packing a punch. Seems like you guys have been getting dumped on for 3 days nowI live just southeast of Tampa. Lots of heavy rain and some pretty strong wind gusts. Schools closed and more closures imminent. Definitely a rain producer here and looks like feeder bands coming in throughout the morning and beyond. We've definitely had heavier rain producers than this roll through, but it's dangerous out there. Stay safe folks to the north.
Yup. It's been interesting here to say the least. South of here in Bradenton had significant flooding. And now everyone else on the coast.Seems like you guys have been getting dumped on for 3 days now
He always does.Man weatherboy is really hyping this storm and nobody else seems to care
Some Facebook meteorologistWho is Weatherboy?
This fella isn't overreacting at all:
Remake maps?
Sounds like there's still a lot up in the air. (Pun intended)
It was a post-tropical cyclone when it made landfall (category 1). Some low hurricanes have done a lot of flooding in the past. When Hurricane Floyd came through NC, it was category 2 when it made landfall, but the state was already saturated from tropical storm dennis, and Floyd sat there and flooded eastern NC. The coastline didn't get hit as hard with flooding as the more inland areas did.How strong was Sandy when it made landfall? It seems that storm surge is the only thing to really worry about with this storm.
I think storm surge is the main worry with most hurricanes, Sandy was a category 1, but it was a whole different beast than this storm.PIK95 said:How strong was Sandy when it made landfall? It seems that storm surge is the only thing to really worry about with this storm.
Not at the moment. We have a 4.5 month old, so if I think there's any risk that we'll get water, I will tuck tail. Rode out Sandy and only got three inches of water (though the water level was three feet outside at crest), but if I'm going to be much more cautious this go around. Things can be replaced. People can't.Are you leaving?
What did they say?Lol weatherboy blocked me from their page because I criticized their hysterical forecast.
Yesterday they put a message in all caps that this is a life threatening storm and anybody spreading misinformation on their page will be reported to the authorities. All I did was say today should we report them to the authorities for the misinformation they spread with their forecast? They deleted my post and now I can't comment or life their page anymore. What did they say?
Beautiful sunny day in Charleston. It feels like Hermine dragged some of our normal humidity with her too. Very nice. A great day for my draft!
I had small limbs scattered over my yard and only had to lower the water in the pool once. One really odd thing though, my grill (on my deck) has moved about two feet. I'm thinking one big gust of wind, but it didn't topple it, it just slid it a few feet.
Some pretty big wind gusts down here in Saunderstown, a huge tree on my property snapped off this afternoon while I was outside stacking firewood.Update? Is it still coming?
