Official 2016 GOP thread: Is it really going to be Donald Trump?? (3 Viewers)

As for Huck's comments it's ugly stuff but let's face it ISIL is an example of how there are people who think like that. They seriously want to do it, that is not a joke. And they view Israel and Palestine as part of the Levante, which they are right now trying to fully conquer. Does anyone seriously believe that like minded people as to Israel do not exist in the Iranian government? The deal is a different issue, it might be the best thing and can help stop Iran, maybe, but let's face it that was not an exaggeration of the ideology of some.
What's ugly is to suggest that an American President is "marching the Jews into the ovens." That kind of rhetoric really should be out of bounds for serious candidates. Huck is trying to out Trump Trump.

Agreed; it's about attention.

Someone on CNN made an interesting point today: the 16 candidates are a direct result of the Citizens United decision. And a lot of them are going to stay in the race longer than they should because there's a couple of rich people backing them.

The only reason this didn't happen on the Democrat side this time around is because Hillary's such a heavy favorite. But what we are seeing here is what's going to happen in both parties in the future. Some might argue that it's more democratic this way. I have my doubts that it's a good thing.

And instead we would just have the rich guys Hillary, Trump & Jeb, who could just flatten everyone with their wealth, great. If C/U means more candidates getting in maybe it's not that bad.

i wouldn't put those three in the same grouping. Hillary and Jeb don't have anywhere near the wealth that Trump does, and in any case both of them are gathering their funding in the old fashioned way from a multitude of sources.

I think running for president now is like getting a reality tv show...and that's why people do it. Most of these people know they have no chance but are in it because they have some money and they know it's going to boost their careers going forward. They all have nice spots at fox news waiting for them.

No, it's not. I'll bet $500 with you right now that there won't be 16 serious Democratic candidates for Presidency ever.

Meh. There aren't 16 serious GOP candidates either. There are about 5 serious candidates, 1 clown who wants to boost his brand, and 10-ish people that want to land high-paying gigs on Fox News.

There are 17 serious candidates - as in candidates with a realistic enough personal narrative to be interviewed regularly by a major network.

All are more serious than say Mike Gravel from campaigns past.

Watch out for Kasich.

Very quietly he has moved into third place in New Hampshire. He has also risen up the polls to the point where he should- just barely- eke into the top 10 in time for the first debate.

Kasich is a serious candidate that the GOP "establishment" could get behind- yet the conservative base doesn't detest him the way they do Jeb Bush. I've thought all along that Scott Walker was the guy who could unite the party, but maybe Kasich could as well...

. I thought he does have some problems with the conservative base. He expanded Medicare in Ohio and I think did some other stuff those folks get upset about.

ive been reading a little about him. Hate his record on education and charter schools, but he is moderate on a few issues.

Plagiarism. Just an FYI.

Yes I know Yankee. You've been predicting this all along. And who knows? You may look like a genius when it's all said and done.

Certainly very few of the pundits on TV have ever given Kasich much of a chance.

Just making sure. My prediction was Kasich v. Not-Hillary. I did call John a dark horse, but I think he's the best dark horse by far.

And the "pundits" problem right now is that they aren't really looking at the map at all. They are all caught up in stuff that does matter, but doesn't matter in the end if the GOP doesn't pay attention to the map. They need someone that can win Ohio. They aren't talking about that enough.

I could be ok with this on the face of things. I'm pro Common Core, I like the focus on the budget and economic issues. As usual like with Christie and Jindal people who lived in his state while he was governor have some really pointed, strong, informed opinions of him.

Look at all this outrage over a dead lion, but where is all the outrage over the planned parenthood dead babies.
Oh yes, another "important" issue the right is so worried about. This planet can't even take care of the people we already have and they are worried about the funding of planned parenthood. Abortion should be promoted imo.

You can't be too strong, can you?

OK we are one week from the first debate, and here's how it shapes up. These 8 are IN:

Bush

Trump

Walker

Rubio

Carson

Cruz

Paul

Huckabee

These 3 are fighting for the last 2 spots:

Christie

Perry

Kasich

These 5 are not going to make it, unless there's some kind of miracle in the next few days:

Jindal

Graham

Fiorina

Pataki

Santorum

The GOP leadership has been bragging about diversity this time around. But as it turns out, two of the people they were bragging about, Fiorina and Jindal, are not going to be on that stage. Kasich, one of the more reasonable candidates, may also just miss being there.

What the American people will see next Thursday is Trump, Carson, Cruz, and Huckabee trying to out crazy each other. It's the clown car again, exactly what the GOP did not want to happen this time around.

Okay, but three of the eight candidates who are in for sure are minority candidates. That's not bad at all in terms of diversity.

Thats true, but the GOP really doesn't want Cruz or Carson to be there. They're embarrassments.

Fox removed the 1% polling requirement for the undercard debate. This allows Fiorina, Pataki and Graham to qualify safely.

And they are...?

Other than Carson, the rest all look like regular white guys to me.
