Official 2016 GOP thread: Is it really going to be Donald Trump?? (1 Viewer)

Carson, Fiorina and Christie have to be out after this.
I would add bush to the list but he has too much money and name recognition.

Been saying for a while that it needs pared down to Trump, Cruz, Kasich, Rubio, and I guess Bush (for now).

Can Kasich win Michigan and Pennsylvania?

A Kasich/Rubio ticket could win the general.
Kasich, Bush and Rubio will continue to split.

Bernie and Hillary pack the bleachers behind them with a group people who look like Pardon the Interuption set. Trump just puts his own family

Trump stealing finance reform from Bernie now too.

ETA: I can have a showerhead made in China for under a buck. How in the heck are we bringing this back to the USA?

Kasich is way too moderate for the GOP. If Bush!, Christie, and Fiorina all dropped out he would have a shot at building some momentum. bush isn't going anywhere though, so neither is Kasich.

Too moderate for the crazies in the GOP may not make him viable long term in the primary but his positions would be their best bet in a national election to pull Reagan democrats over. He is no charismatic at all but maybe, just maybe, his "I'm an adult in a room full of kids" thing will work.

We can only hope

Did he just say that unemployment is actually 35-45%?
Yes he did. What he was saying was the unemployment rate is a lagging indicator of the true number of unemployed people. The unemployment rate only measures people that are actively looking for work. The point was if %5 are looking and can't find work that the number of people who have dropped out, given up or are doing better on assistance is a far higher % of people who are out of work. Which is true, the exact % isn't known but participation in the work force is currently the lowest in US history.

Damn. Trump is so light on specifics. Nonexistent actually. "It's going to be great, believe me" isn't a platform. Then again, he's kicking ### so what do I know?

Him and Bernie both. Bernie with his Oh we can whip up a few trillion by taxing "wall street" Oh yeah and free college for everyone. I especially liked Bernies revamping health care will save families thousands. So when my $2500 from Obama kicks in and the thousands from Bernie hit the bank I will be getting a cool 5k a year in savings.

Yep, for either of them to have a snowball's chance the other needs to drop out. Bush can play the waiting game longer than Kasich.

Christie's probably out.

It doesn't have to be Kasich. It could be Bush or Rubio, though both have underperformed terribly thus far. But it has to be one of them: Kasich, Bush, Rubio. The other two have got to drop out. Then their weaknesses won't matter. The rationale for that candidate will then become, "He's not Donald Trump."

And it has to be soon. If these 3 guys stay in the race too long, it will be to

I think many have realized that most specifics politicians spit out are bull #### anyway, so Trump's lack of specifics isn't hurting him like it would have 20-30 years ago.

And he's playing the long game...no advantage to laying out specifics when you are steamrolling the competition.

Agreed. But a little substance would be nice. Do people buy TVs, cars, and other garbage just because the TV and salesmen tell them they are great? Oh wait ....

You nailed it. He's playing the game that's been set up before him and killing it.

bernie actually has laid out specifics so not really an apt comparison.

Real analysis later. But poor Gilmore. MSNBC show Paul and Huckabee and Santorum (!) in their results graphic but no Gilmore :( And I think Gilmore even beat Santorum.

Cruz is a good speaker, has great delivery, but it was kinda annoying watching him look down at his notes, after watching Trump deliver another great extemporaneous speech. Not that public speaking ability should be criteria for selecting our president. Jefferson had an version to public speaking and Washington wasn't considered good either.
