Official 2016 GOP thread: Is it really going to be Donald Trump?? (1 Viewer)

Just heard the Mark Levin show on the way to the gym. I knew Conservatives would be pissed at Megyn Kelly but I think I may have underestimated their anger. Levin is just ripping her to shreds for her takedown of Trump (Rosie comments) and Cruz (abortion exception to save a woman's life).

Maybe this is what the party needs - for Moderates like Megyn to be fearless with the reactionaries. But these guys aren't going down without a fight, that's for sure.
as if these candidates would go through an election cycle without somebody bringing this stuff up, or worse bringing it up and not giving them a chance to respond.

that analysis is simply unhinged.

the debate improved the GOP brand more than any debate in the last cycle and the moderators helped that
Agree 100%.

If I was a weed smoker I think I'd get a bag of chips and watch this again.
Right? I laughed my ### off watching it sober, and I've cracked up a couple times today just thinking about some of the stuff. I can't imagine being stoned watching it.Everyone at work was talking and laughing about it today as well. All you had to do was mention the debate or Trump and people would start smiling. I can't wait for the next one (or the SNL skit).

Maybe Trump will host an SNL show soon.

Trump coming up next on Hannity.
I hope this guy runs for president every election. Just awesome.
Keep him in it as long as possible. He's good for the party, if for no other reason than people are tuning in. Can't wait to see the ratings from tonight. Bet it was off the charts.
His honesty and lack of political correctness is pretty great to watch. We need both of those, even if it doesn't have the same views I do.
I don't find him particularly honest.
Do you think he is shtick?
I did until last night. I now think he's just a lunatic with a massive ego.
That's President Lunatic to you.

So right now I'm watching CNN, and Trump is talking about how he's not a bad businessman, no, he had "the foresight" to leave Atlantic City ............... "just like how in 2004 I said don't go into Iraq..." ...and then like 4 seconds later he says, "...I'm the most militaristic person ... ."

In Trump's defense (...) He may have a point about Frank Luntz. He hits possible candidates up for work as a consultant while they full well know he may be on Fox one day doing a focus group that will affect how they are perceived. So it's a rope-a-dope, I've seen that stuff in local politics. There are lawyers and engineers who go on tv to opine on public matters, but hey if you want to hire them....

@MaerRoshan: Wow. Trump about Megyn Kelly on CNN. "She had blood coming out of her eyes. Or blood coming out of somewhere else."

Go GOP

He's either a Democrat plant or he is just running for kicks at this point. How the EFFING #### do you say #### like this and expect to people to think you have credibility?

I just saw him on CNN and he was off the rails, trolling with Don Lemon, the whole interview was a troll. He's out of control right now. the GOP is riding a wild tiger or actually maybe the tiger has finally broken off the chain.

I'm going former over latter right now.

Maybe Donald's got a nose for these things. Megyn just said on her show that she was under the weather last night and almost couldn't go on the air.

Trump has said if the candidate shows him respect he likely wouldn't run as an independent.. It's just a threat so that other candidates won't attack him heavily during the Republican nomination process.

He should run as an independent but run on universal healthcare. Really throw a curveball at both parties.

Pretty amazing how all the focus is on Trump. It's almost like he is the rabbit in the race to deflect away stuff from Bush,Walker and a few of the other bigger names.

I doubt it works no matter which way they slice this cake but it sure is entertaining.
Trump has so many weak points. He's a cartoon. Yet no one in the Republican field has really tried to stand up to him. Makes the whole field look weak.

Does anyone have any balls? You got 10-15 people running on fumes and now one wants to take a flamethrower to Trump and actually make their mark? If you are afraid of The Donald you should not be POTUS.

Trump's "blood" comment just might knock him out of the race. There's no humorous aspect to that at all. Just horrificly tasteless and disrespectful. Saying something like that shows incredibly poor judgement to say the least.

Well, he is the same guy whose poll numbers went up after he insulted POWs.

Basically he insulted McCain, who is detested by many. I predict that McCain's war-mongering ### is done. McCain campaigned for Lindsay "GrimReaper" Graham and Graham is polling at 0%. That should tell you a lot about McCain's status in the party.

That may be true but what Trump said about McCain was a disgrace. I'm no fan of McCain the politician but the guy went through hell as a POW and never broke. The guy deserves a huge amount of respect for that.

Don't tell NCCommish that, though I really like NC.

I also have a good friend that essentially dissents from the "I support the troops but not the war" line of thought. He's a radical lefty, but does make a salient point: We have a volunteer army. Your choice.

Vietnam; however, is entirely different with respect to most and McCain.

I think he's a damn brave hero, and would not question his toughness, integrity, or sincerity about certain issues.

I sort of support the Vietnam vets more than the Iraq/afghanistan etc vets because like you mention, it is a volunteer Army now. I don't think I should feel that way though. The people that are serving now and have served all deserve our respect. I just feel sorry for how the Vietnam vets were treated and it's everyone's responsibility to not let that happen to our veterans ever again.

He was most directly going after McCain, but he insulted all POWs in the process, by stating that he prefers people who weren't captured. That goes a bit broader than McCain.

...But I wasn't looking to pick a fight about McCain/POWs/etc. Just pointing that he has said pretty disrespectful and tasteless things about other people/groups in this campaign -- e.g., the McCain/POW comment, the "rapists" comment. Maybe this is his "have you no sense of decency, at last" moment, but I thought he thought crossed that bridge a long time ago.

I'm not sure what he could do/say that would make me think that would knock him out of the race -- maybe burning an American flag or admitting to killing 5 hookers at SMU, but I'm not even sure of that.

He's trying to clarify his remark, indicating he didn't mean what people think he meant, and I actually believe him. I wasn't sure because he hadn't followed up on it until now. I honestly think he was just trying to say she was "out for blood" and it came out horribly wrong. Unfortunately, he may not get the benefit of the doubt on this one, but we'll see.

@realDonaldTrump: Re Megyn Kelly quote: "you could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever" (NOSE). Just got on w/thought

Trump will ramp up his next commentary. He will say something even more foul or offensive and force the GOP's hand. It's up to the GOP whether they allow it to happen in the middle of an actual debate. Same goes for CNN, Don Lemon seemed perfectly happy to have him on his show. Trump's numbers will likely go up in the GOP primary, but I am guessing with others as well, and the networks can decide if they want to keep feeding this beast.

"I don't have time for political correctness" gets them all good and moist. Not being an ####### being a very time-consuming pursuit.
His focus is on getting things done. If feelings get hurt in the process so be it. He doesn't have time to waste worrying about that. I love that attitude from a Presidential candidate. The upside far outweighs the downside. If he can get this country back on track I have no problem sacrificing a few hurt feelings. You may think he's an #######, but does that necessarily mean he couldn't be the best choice to fix some of the major problems our country is facing?
What makes you think Donald Trump is the best choice to fix some of the major problems our country is facing? What are those problems, and what sets Trump apart from others?
Helping our economy flourish: I think his business acumen/experience, and the fact that he won't owe any favors to politicians and/or interest groups cleay separates him from the pack.Illegal immigration: Trump brought this issue to the forefront and it's obviously very important to him. He's the only candidate who would be willing to hurt feelings and potentially offend some people in order to fix the problem. I believe that the rest of the field would be too pc to get anything substantial done, just like the last 30 years.

Terrorism: I believe Trump's responses to terrorist attacks would be stronger and more direct than those of the other candidates, and he would take steps to thwart terrorism, both foreign and donestic, that the other candidates would be afraid to take due to political correctness.
What specifically is off track about the current economy? Also, Trump won't be the CEO of America. He can't just bark orders and get things done or fire those that he doesn't like. He still will have to deal with lobbyists, special interests, and all the other elected officials that a President has to find a way to work with to get anything done.
And the guy... man, worst of all: Facing Hillary he pretty much copped to buying politicians, and it seems perfectly legitimate to believe he would or could be bought himself. Hillary's no. 1-2 issue along with untrustworthiness is corruption and when asked point blank what did he buy from Hillary he said she attended his wedding.

Wow, great answer, both dishonest and corrupt.
By copping to buying politicians he showed honesty and exposed what politicians hide. He exposed it so he can change it. With regards to Trump being bought, if he was interested in making more money he wouldn't be running for President. He could be making a heck of a lot more money just sticking to business. He'll lose money running for and potentially being President. I think he's bored with making money and truly wants to be a great President and help our country prosper. And he's willing to spend some of his fortune to do it.
:lmao: This clown bought favors for himself but now he will be "above" that kind of thing.

I'm just telling you why his poll numbers went up after he attacked McCain.

They are all a bunch of pansies. He can buy and sell each and everyone of them. They all want the nomination so the last thing they will want to do is piss him off. They are all on their knees waiting for him to stand in front of them.

Erick Erickson of Red State has disinvited Trump from attending a GOP conference.

I'm not really sure how the GOP allows him to participate in the next debate. If that happens it may already be 3rd party run time. And it's an inescapable conclusion that Trump is forcing the GOP's hand on this purposefully. Load up the conspiracy theories but they have more than a little weight here IMO. If this was a local county/parish or state election (at least where I come from, where this sht happens) I'd say this was definitely orchestrated, the only thing to fathom is that this could happen on a national scale.
I don't understand the "conspiracy" angle. Trump is polling at what, 25%?

The support is the embarrassing part for the GOP, not that an ##### is saying outrageous stuff.

5% in a 3rd party run would be enough to sink the GOP in the general. 1% in Florida could do it.

As for the 2nd point, those things aren't exactly mutually exclusive.
