My ideal situation, keep Matthews and Sproles, and draft a RB.  RB doesn't seem to be a position where big $$ pays off.  We've already got the vet RB's, we need young legs.

Big fan of what they are doing so far - we got a guard, we got a safety, we replaced Alonso - biggest hole left, imo, is the starting CB spot.   I'm not sure either of the CB's we signed will fill in well there, but we'll see - maybe with our safety/pass rush we won't need them to be on an island for long.

I expect at least one WR signing too -Matthews is the only proven commodity on the roster - although that is a very thin market. Maybe some DL depth too.

Thurman Thomas is available.

 
The rb question is pretty interesting now, I agree.  Of course, build a good line, and it is theoretically one of the easiest spots to fill cheaply.  I mean, KC was great last year with totally unproven guys.

Treadwell can be a possibility at 8, but I think they could have had him at 13 if that was where they were looking. It would make me sick to see another WR drafted with a 1st or 2nd at this point though.

Gotta go with Stanley, Ramsey or Hargreaves imo.

They have to have something in mind to scuttle their RB corps like they are. RB is probably the easiest position to fill.

My opinion is that Howie understands you cant pump money into a position like RB and he's looking to correct it by getting rid of all the money tied up in it.  Unless the 2 remaining take decent cuts I can see both being gone.

If they take that approach I would expect them to add a lower priced FA (Starks, Robinson, Michael, Hillman, Alf, Powell etc.) and draft a RB with either one of the 3's or maybe the 4th round pick.  We still do have Barner so that's your 3 unless you draft another or add someone else who has yet to be cut.  After Elliot and Henry you are going to have a shot at a ton of guys with our 3rd round picks IMO

The WR market is done and wasn't strong to begin with.  It would have been nice to add a DHB but I would settle for Holmes.  At this point we need SOME overall speed.

Listen, I get that you think Maxwell and Murray are appreciably better than they played last year. That's fine, I disagree, but whatever. I think they CAN be better in a different scheme, but you're still trying to fit square pegs in round holes.

With Murray, I see the guy who caught lightning in a bottle and everything fell right. He'll never see the numbers he had in 2014 again. I'd bet my next mortgage payment on it. I said it before, I'll say it again: Giving big dollar contracts to RB's are a losing proposition.

With Maxwell, it's obvious to me he was a product of that awesome Seattle defense. Put him back in that defense or another elite defense like DEN or HOU and I'm sure he'd do fine. They don't have that in Philly.

To further my point here, I just read an updated cap number spread sheet: Even after all these signings, the Eagles have just short on 17 mil to spend still. That's unreal after all these FA signings they made.

 
Really liking how the Jets have addressed the RB position. Would have loved to see Powell or Robinson come in here. Still hoping that Howie has an ace up his sleeve...

 
Just read this. If true, this certainly puts a different light on the QB situation:

"According to Elliot Shorr-Park this morning, there’s a clause in Bradford’s contract that says the Eagles can trade him before March 18 without spending a dollar on him or taking any cap hit. That’s a huge escape hatch that gives them the flexibility to move him to, say Denver, if they feel they have a better option in their sights. Could be nothing, could be something. Stay tuned."

Now I'm wondering if a deal to send Bradford to DEN for 1.31 isn't very possible.

 
Do you guys think the Eagles may target Elliot at 8 for RB? Does he fit the WCO mold of being able to be a weapon in the receiving game a la Westbrook, McCoy, Charles?

JMO, but I wouldn't touch a RB that high. CB or OT all the way for me. Might be open to LB if Jack falls.

*edit* NFL.com's latest mock has the Eagles taking Elliot.

Alex Mack (former Browns center who signed with Atl) just said he almost stayed in Cleveland due to the possibility of them picking Goff. 

It sounded newsworthy to me since many have Cleveland taking Wentz.

That would probably be a good deal for Denver - obviously you've got a Super-bowl caliber team, even with the departures...  Getting even decent QB play would be huge for a repeat.

Bradford is better than 2015 Peyton was. And they won it all.

Well I wouldn't try and convince you of that - but paying a first for Bradford would be a bad move by Denver. The fact that you believe Manning and Os were worse QBs than him and they still won the SB, should tell you that. They can get an average QB like Bradford for a much cheaper price that a fist round pick. They'd be better off signing Fitzpatrick and keeping the pick and saving a little money.

I agree about Fitz, but I'm not sure he's going to be leaving NY. He's the last domino to fall before QB-less teams will start to panic. IF the Jets re-sign him, the Eagles can be in a great position with Sanchez and Bradford as bargaining chips.

*edit* For whatever reason I thought Fitzpatrick already signed back with NY. I fixed my post.

Depends on what the alternatives are and what they cost.  Right now there is next to nothing out there and Sam has a pretty safe contract as we already discussed. 

Either way I don't believe this gets done. I don't think the players would like something like this and it could put a dent in the locker room that you're trying to repair

 
Press conference right now. Doug was asked if they are listening to offers on Bradford. He had a very long pause (like 6-7 seconds) before saying Sam's our #1.

If I were Denver, I would much rather try to sign Fitzpatrick and keep my first round pick. I think he's just as good as Bradford and will be cheaper. But if he resigns with the Jets, I would much rather have Bradford than Kaepernick or Griffin. And I would give up my first round pick for him if I were Denver.. The question is, would that be worth it for the Eagles? It's the 32nd pick. Probably not going to get a game changer. And Pederson would have to have a lot of faith in Daniel.

If we were to get that 32nd overall pick it would be like we cancelled out the second round pick that we gave up. So it would be like it never happened last year which would be great.

 
Greg Cosell on the Bill Simmons podcast telling his favorite signing yesterday was McLeod, he's one of the best free safeties in the NFL and a scout told him he's not far off of the Earl Thomas level.

No it would not be great. Bradford for that 2nd is looking good now. Love the retooling of our team and think we can win a playoff game this year.

I'm thinking the Eagles' potential list for #8 looks something like:

Ronnie Stanley

Myles Jack

Vernon Hargreaves

Ezekiel Elliott

At least one of them will be there. And all of them look like elite talents.

I agree with all that except for Zeke. I would replace Treadwell there. I don't think the Eagles are that high on taking the running back in the top 10.

I'm withholding judgment on Treadwell until his pro day. I don't want to spend the #8 pick on a possession receiver - need some explosive ability. And I think this draft class is deep enough that we could find a good WR in the 3rd.

I wasn't thrilled with Maxwell and Murray when they signed them so I'm not here whining that they dumped them.  I don't believe I said anything that implied that.  I liked the Lesean trade at the time, but that was more because I though Lesean was a POS than being certain Kiko was going to be good.  I'm simply mocking the Eagles fans who are excited about the housecleaning because the end result is not a better team.  And if Bradford does get traded it will almost certainly be a significantly worse team (from bottom half to bottom third).  

I'll agree that Brooks looks like a solid (if slightly expensive) signing that addresses an obvious need and gives them some flexibility in the draft. And its nice to see Howie taking control of the cap. But let's keep the expectations muted until we see a product on the field. Otherwise, I fear Roseman/Lurie will be pulling the plug on Pederson before he ever gets a chance to build something (which was my complaint with firing Chip as well).

When has Lurie fired a coach prematurely? One time. An exception where the guy was a complete ahole to everyone in the building and forced the owners hand.

Pederson will get every chance to succeed.
