Miley has always had wide platoon splits and just got hammered by RHB last year (.875 OPS).

All but four of his 200 career appearances have been as a SP.  I don't understand why nobody has tried him as a LOOGY.

 
Tampa trades Jake Odorizzi to the Twins for 21 year old Venezuelan SS Jermaine Palacios.   Palacios had a minor breakout last year in A ball but needs another one if he's going to be anything other than a utilityman in the bigs.

But the Rays trim another $6M off the payroll.

I was wrong about hoping Tampa moves to Montreal. Keep this ####ty team in Florida and the AL East forever. 

 
Red Sox are apparently close on signing Martinez. They reset their luxury tax penalty last year, which is good because they're going to be in ###-deep this year.

Are you saying that Martinez would have to have gone unsigned to prove there was collusion? $110mm was quite a bit less than he was projected to earn at the beginning of the off-season.

Which isn't to say there is active collusion, I just don't think it's disproven here.

Both hosmer and Martinez got more than the initial offers. If there was collusion teams would've held firm with their offers.

 
Yankees send away a low-level prospect for Brandon Drury

Rays send away Steven Souza for Anthony Banda

D-Backs send away Banda and Drury for Souza

Drury can stand at 2B or 3B just fine. Seems dumb for the Rays. D-Backs get a $3mil homeless man's JD Martinez for their 6th or 7th starter.

 
Arizona had a glut of middle infielders. 

Souza is an upgrade over Yasmany Tomas, especially on defense.

I knew the Yankees weren't gonna start the season with both andujar and Torres especially with the ability to gain an extra year of eligibility by keeping Torres down until April 16. This also doesn't block them long term. I would've liked walker but this will do.

Yeah, Walker was the guy i wanted too, but on the off chance both Andujar and Torres are both good right out of the gate, this gives them more options.

Sounds like the pitcher they got for Souza is pretty good. Haven't read about the IF yet but most seem to think the P will make an impact.  

Odorizzi is piss awful. Not sure what you think they should have got for him. He was one of the 10 worst starters in baseball last season. I'm just happy he's gone. 

The Dickerson move is odd but they've been trying to move him all winter to no avail. Still that's the one move that just doesn't make sense. 

Well the souza move doesn't make a lot of sense either but the return seems decent.
