Damn, some pretty wild images in that.  Wonder what that stretch limo was doing out in the storm?

Looks like they could use some snow plows from northern states to clear some of the debris.
They seem to be using the bulldozer to move sand.

I'm stunned the boats for the most part seem upright.

I was watching TWC last night when Stephanie Abrams was interviewing the Ricky Areola dude and she mispronounces Miami Beach.  I thought I heard her correctly, but I wasn't positive.  I love how she's trying not to laugh when the camera comes back on to her.

They were floated in.  Why wouldn't they be upright?
I dunno, figured they were in a dock and tied off, a ton of water and surge comes in and they capsize then get pushed onshore.

Watching some of the live streams of marinas had several boats just totally getting rekt.

Boats are weighted so even if they capsize briefly they will flip over and be right side up.  Doesn't always happens but usually they will flip back over.

so northern Alabama is just gonna get some strong thunderstorms.   not supposed to get bad until tonight.  worst stuff doesn't hit until tomorrow morning.

How bad is the forecast now?  I am boarding a flight in a few that gets in to Birmingham at 3pm. The forecast I saw just showed wet and breezy.

While a lot of attention has been on where the eyewall hit land, the reach of this storm is pretty incredible. Jacksonville has had some of its worst flooding in 50 years. Charleston will have its third (and maybe second) highest tide ever. Savannah is at it's second highest water level ever, and could break the record. Winds and surge have been hitting the Georgia and South Carolina coasts.

So how bad does everyone thing it'll be getting BACK IN to Florida now?  That was a lot evacuees spread out over 5 days.

My wonder too. Really discussing whether we should just wait till Wednesday.

Believe it started on the 28th and went into the 29th, because the 29th was supposed to be the day we moved into our new house. Yeah that didn't happen!
I was on one of the last flights into LGA on Sunday night, the 28th, before it shut down. Landed a little before 7pm if I remember right.

The storm started on the 29th later in the day. I walked to my office in midtown at about 8am to get my laptop so I could work from home until things normalized. No rain yet, just overcast and some wind and the air had that feeling that something was coming. Quiet streets and pretty surreal. Since we were out of town leading up to that point (cut a FL trip short to get back ahead of the storm) we missed out on the usual storm prep, but I was able to stop in a Duane Reade on my way back to my apartment to get anything we'd need for a few days.

We were on 57th st at that point so we didn't lose power but we had friends from downtown on our couch for a few days. A lot of people also really got screwed because we ended up with nighttime temperatures that were like the middle of the winter, which was a huge problem when there was no gas/electricity for so many.

My dad finally sent a video and there is a tree down and some damage to the pool enclosed. At the end he said "what's another 10 grand".

He hates us so much.

we had nowhere to go... and it was ####### freezing. our daughter was still an infant too. fortunately we had gas- so could make food. and head uptown with the unwashed masses for provisions and to be sneered at by the uptowners.

Anyone w info on gas availability Tampa and North? I've heard Port is closed for now with debris so nothing coming in, and North Florida counties are out.

My wife's parents got power back in 72 hours. Our "new" place (an upstairs apartment after we were flooded out) didn't get power back until the Monday before Thanksgiving. It was damn cold.

IIRC we got ours back either on the night of the 4th or 5th day. sucked. EVil.

fortunately I was able to get a few big bags of ice from a store just outside the black-out zone and since it was so cold, was able to get them back and into our freezer and fridge to keep our stuff from spoiling.

Yeah, I think Wednesday at the earliest is the best plan.  We're probably going to leave Thursday morning and break the drive up in to two days.  If we get home Friday afternoon, I hope that will give FPL enough time to get the power back on.

How long can your fridge keep food cold or safe if the doors stay closed?  That could be a stinky mess...

Racetrac tends to be up and running pretty quickly after storms, and is keeping a site page that shows what types of fuel are available at various locations.  They currently don't have any stations open in FL, but this should say where they are up and running when they are:

I spent every night but one in that frigid icebox. Looters or some such. I subsisted on Halloween Candy that didn't have a holiday thanks to Sandy.

They're already letting people back onto Marco Island. Lots of damage, but not nearly as bad as it could have been from all reports. Some streets flooded and power out, but plenty of dry passable streets as well.

My aunt got a text from my uncle and Aunt that stayed in Marco that they made it through without injury or damage to their condo.

Some of these people were rebuilding after Matthew. Maybe it's time for the rules to change.
That's always the chance you take living on the beach.  Not that I could afford a home right on the water anyway, but I'd never buy one that close to the ocean.  There's always a chance you could lose it all.

I recognize that green house from that video.  Not even a mile from where I used to live. It was an older home that had been there years.  And yes, Vilano got hit by Matthew as well.  It's crazy because that area had really been affected by a hurricane in over 50 years before last year. We had a tropical storm that flooded our bottom floor but it wasn't really bad and it was all concrete.
