Nope. Miami would be right on the dangerous side of the eye at maximum strength. There's nothing good about that. At all.Couldn't that actually be a good thing? The population and infrastructure is on the coasts minus Orlando, and land could slow it. It harms both coasts but doesn't kill Miami?
It would be good for Georgia and South Carolina, as going directly over Florida would weaken it as it heads towards them. But that would really suck for Florida.Couldn't that actually be a good thing? The population and infrastructure is on the coasts minus Orlando, and land could slow it. It harms both coasts but doesn't kill Miami?
That's Jose.Watching the weather channel coverage, it looks like there's another big storm right behind Irma on kind of the same track. Am I seeing that right? They're not talking about it at all so maybe it's nothing but it sure looks like something.
Well played T J.That's Jose.Watching the weather channel coverage, it looks like there's another big storm right behind Irma on kind of the same track. Am I seeing that right? They're not talking about it at all so maybe it's nothing but it sure looks like something.
Update from my friend who left this morning - Miami to the Georgia border was a total of 14 hours of driving. Still going toward Atlanta. I'll let you know - thought he was staying in Florida but he has two young kids and saw the writing on the wall.I just mapped this on Google using your (surprisingly not made-up) town names as waypoints and got a 9 hour transit time.
Thanks. Assuming he took 95 all the way up?Update from my friend who left this morning - Miami to the Georgia border was a total of 14 hours of driving. Still going toward Atlanta. I'll let you know - thought he was staying in Florida but he has two young kids and saw the writing on the wall.
That's Katia. Try and keep up.I thought Jose was in the gulf. What do I know.
There is a third one in the gulf. I think it also hits land on Sat.I thought Jose was in the gulf. What do I know.
I'm still home. Leaving at 5 AM.So, where are you drinking for the Pats/Chiefs?
To Orlando, definitely - I assume from there. I'm relying on Facebook posts now because he's got two young kids and left his wife in Miami, so he has his hands full too much for phone calls.Thanks. Assuming he took 95 all the way up?
I know Irma needs to be the primary focus, but would really appreciate Jose info too. I'd hate to see it hit Barbuda and St Maarten/barths/Anguilla.Ensemble gfs big shift west.
TT site crashed. Will get link in a sec.
This is ungood foe those wishing for an east track.
It's that time of year. Stuff kicking off everywhere.Good grief. No kidding.
It looks like it might graze those islands, the GFS has it then doing a loop in the Bermuda Triangle, before heading towards New England.I know Irma needs to be the primary focus, but would really appreciate Jose info too. I'd hate to see it hit Barbuda and St Maarten/barths/Anguilla.
I saw that wrote too. Sad.Situation in St Martin, likely to be hit again Sat:
Witnesses on other islands described horrific destruction and a breakdown in public order: no running water, no emergency services, no police to stop looters — and a never ending tide of newly homeless people wandering the streets amid the devastation.
“It’s like someone with a lawn mower from the sky has gone over the island,” Marilou Rohan, a Dutch vacationer in St. Maarten, which is part of the Kingdom of Netherlands, told the Dutch NOS news service. “Houses are destroyed. Some are razed to the ground. I am lucky that I was in a sturdy house, but we had to bolster the door, the wind was so hard.”
There was little sense that authorities had the situation under control, she said.
Supermarkets were being looted and no police were visible in the streets. Occasionally, soldiers have passed by, but they were doing little to impose order, she said.
“People feel powerless. They do not know what to do. You see the fear in their eyes,” she said.
As someone in South Louisiana, having seen the aftermath of a whole lot of hurricanes in my day and hunkered down through many of them: this one is worth being nervous about. You guys are making me nervous. I've never done this much storm prep and I've been here since 1994. This is gonna be ugly. No way around it.
I love this state, and many parts of it are going to be drastically changed after this weekend. I work all over central and SW Florida and am not looking forward to seeing the aftermath in the coming weeks.
The only positive thing I can hope is that Irma takes out a ####load of pythons in the Everglades.New models out on Wunderground for 8pm. Bunching together for a dead-center hit on the Everglades.

Jamming those pythons up the ol' Everglades. Got it.The only positive thing I can hope is that Irma takes out a ####load of pythons in the Everglades.
That might be almost as bad as over water, since the Everglades is wetlands. I remember Tropical Storm Faye in 2008 (my first tropical system as a Floridian), its eye passed close enough to Lake Okeechobee that it actually gained 5mph in sustained windspeed.New models out on Wunderground for 8pm. Bunching together for a dead-center hit on the Everglades.

Yeah, seems like that should have been done earlier, at least south and east of Orlando.Florida Governor Scott just closed all schools, state universities and government offices from Friday through Monday. (Yes, this wasn't a done deal. Orange County (Orlando) public schools were still open tomorrow until this was declared a few minutes ago)
Many of the schools south and east were already closed. He's just doing it statewide now. Fine by me, now my boys can help me finish prep tomorrow.Yeah, seems like that should have been done earlier, at least south and east of Orlando.
Ok maybe done as a cat 5 for good. Cuba took a chunk and didnt really get stronger. Only bigger.Going down to Cat4. Dont know when officially. Dont think set the record.
Won't be down long. Maybe just a few hours as it deals w Cuba.
Where is this being said?Ok maybe done as a cat 5 for good. Cuba took a chunk and didnt really get stronger. Only bigger.
It's already a major hurricane.Good news and bad news. The bad news is that tropical storm Jose is expected to be upgraded to Hurricane Jose in the next 36-48 hours. The good news is that Trump won't let Jose in the US.
Um, Jose is already a Category 3. Besides, we've heard that joke already.Good news and bad news. The bad news is that tropical storm Jose is expected to be upgraded to Hurricane Jose in the next 36-48 hours. The good news is that Trump won't let Jose in the US.
Sorry, been drinking for awhile and haven't been keeping upUm, Jose is already a Category 3. Besides, we've heard that joke already.
Understandable, then.Sorry, been drinking for awhile and haven't been keeping up
Say what? I haven't seen anything that says it will be Cat1 at Jacksonville.A lot of folks around here have already decided they're staying since they see the graphics that say it will be a cat 1 at this latitude.
Not sure people under stand the size of this eyewall.
We haven't made a decision yet
The latest recon only got one measurement at Cat5 strength.Where is this being said?
