My office is on the water in Naples. I literally look out my window and see all types of boats each day that I'll probably never afford. It'll be interesting to see how that area weathers the storm.

I swear...if Tin City and that monkey bread store get destroyed....I'll be pissed.

Thats a cool area. We have been down there the last two spring breaks. Had dinner in Tin City just this past spring. Hoping for the best for all of you.

 
This storm is bananas, it literally bottles the mind. I feel sorry for the people who feel they minest well stay put instead of leaving. This storm is gonna come and WaLa, everything is suddenly wiped out. It's a fact that is hard to except.

As a further explanation, she needs power and internet to work from anywhere in the world. She hasn't prepped anyone for short or long term obligations. And she makes around 40k more than me. She's an idiot, period.

 
Reading weather nerd forums: 

- it's grazing Cuba, but a trough is going to guide her NW then N over the next 3-6 hours.

-she is projected to strengthen more based on eyewall structure and water/moisture. 

- Naples looking like a direct hit. Tampa going to be in bad shape.. worse if the western shift happens there as modeled. 

Bad news but next 3-6 hours supposed to tell the story

Agreed, my inlaws live over by Lely and have resigned the fact they won't have a place to go back to.  They are with us for who knows how long.  They don't think they'll go back.  So sad.

Yep.  By 2am we will know.  Going to be a long night. 

 
Some of you may know I have a ne'er do well, social pariah of a step brother who uses all kinds of illicit substances and is a rather generally horrible person.

Apparently he didn't leave Brooksville, where he moved a few years ago.  Him, wife, two kids.  Can't be convinced.  Guess we'll find out soon. 

 
I'm not sure if these bozos in the keys realize this or not, but even if they make it through, highly likely that US1 is compromised.  Getting back to the Keys is likely to be incredibly difficult.

 
Stunning that people would stay in the keys. I just dont understand that mindset.

Brooksville is a great place to be.  Very high relative to surrounding area.

Heard a story on the news tonight about friends of a reporter lost their home in NJ from Sandy and decided to move to the Florida keys  :mellow: . Where do they go next, San Francisco on San Andreas fault?

Sorry to say this but nuclear plants never really shut down. They lower the reaction to as low as possible but it will still be live. Let's also not forget all the spent fuel they store at these places. 

 
Irma is off the track at this point. Overnight models should steer east. Like every overnight model last 4 nights. 

Odd that nobody else has noticed this about the tracks. It sure seems like there is a systematic error

Is it just me or does it look like this thing is taking a much deeper dive into mainland Cuba than any model or forecaster predicted? Would it be really all that surprising if 24 hours from now the updated forecast has this thing with an entirely new path? One that is much less bleak for Florida. Afterall, 24 hours ago Miami was the bullseye. One day later and the bullseye is an entire state-width west. With more than a day before projected Florida landfall that leaves plenty of time for a much changed pathway.

Call it wishful thinking, call it part conspiracy theory, but it wouldn't shock me at all to learn that scientists and meteorologists are already starting to sense a Florida miss, but don't want the media to run with it and lead people back south. And the media stays hush, hush knowing the second word gets out that Florida is in the clear, their ratings tank. I know it's probably a longshot but I'd love to be right on this one. It would be easy to understand why the models wound up way off. Irma is flanked by two other hurricanes which no doubt have the potential to throw everything out of whack.

The ridge coming in is really strong. It will hit Florida at least with a part of an eyewall

Yes, It looks like it is still heading West. Its going to have to take a hard right turn pretty soon to stay on "track". But if it heads out into the gulf it probably gets even stronger and slams into Louisiana-Florida panhandle or veers back i to Florida coast near Tampa.
