I can't look at that guy in Key West anymore.

We got North to Tally in about an hour longer than usual, and I-10 looks pretty wide open...knock on wood but successful evac to Pcola. I think some of my Tampa friends who stayed are starting to freak out...college football will help for a while.

FEMA head Brock Long has a released a statement to the people who stayed in the Keys;

"You are on your own."
“When the water came, they drowned like rats", from a survivor of the 1935 Labor Day hurricane”. Everything from MM 60 (Marathon) to 91 (Tavernier) was destroyed. Over 400 people died, including over 200 WW1 vets who came for jobs on the overseas highway at the height of the great depression. It had the highest intensity at landfall of any hurricane to strike the USA: 26.35 inHg, 185 mph. The veterans were in make-shift camps and the rescue train arrived too late for evacuation. All except the locomotive was thrown off the train track by an estimated 18 foot storm surge. Hemingway wrote a critical article about the plight of these veterans, after (not before) the storm.

Thank you. Is it still supposed to move up the west coast? My that rotation that thing could skip on by and head to New Orleans. Didnt Katrina take a similar path?
No.  See that diagonal line from the upper left corner?  There is seemingly clear sky and a narrow band of rain touching.

This will push the storm away from the gulf and to the north where there is less resistance now.

I would expect a nearly due N track if not something like 10 degrees for the night.

What is this homeless guy stuff
In the Duval Street and Sloppy Joes webcams, a homeless guy was seen lying on the ground. Just now, someone walked up to him and apparently convinced him to find shelter because the homeless guy got up and walked away with the dude.

Reed Timmer said he'd be going over to check on him, wonder if that was him.

Looks like people were blowing up his Twitter about it and he said he was headed there. This guy is all around bad ###.

Homeless dude came back by himself. Hung around a few minutes then wandered off.
I'm not on Twitter so couldn't read all comments but looks like Timmer said he/they refused help and he told them if they get scared to head to his shelter.

Reddit posted a gif of Irma's lightning, and it, it just jumped north. Maybe a wobble, maybe a turn, but the lightning was cool.

From the reddit feed / Washington Times

The Capital Weather Gang's update based on the 9 p.m. advisory:

The latest computer model forecasts suggest the vicious storm will hit the Keys and Florida’s west coast hardest, with a combination of destructive winds and a devastating storm surge. Winds well in excess of 100 mph could batter numerous population centers along Florida’s west coast, including Key West, Naples and Fort Myers and up the coast to Tampa. And coastal waters could rise 10 to 15 feet above normally dry land, completely inundating homes, businesses, and roads.

"Key West is probably going to get its worst storm in modern history, and perhaps ever."

In Orlando and just saw cerfew starts Sunday at 7pm and text alert of a mandatory evac here of all mobile home residents.  Not a mobile home resident but anyone else in Orlando concerned.

Polk County had a mandatory evac for those in flood zones and mobile homes earlier today. First time Ive seen that in my 23 years here.

of all the places to be homeless, key west not bad.  must've travelled a long way to be homeless there i guess.  at some point tonite though you gotta figure someone is gonna use him as a raft.....WaLa

My buddy's father-in-law lives right in the water in Clearwater. Just texted him who to call and where the will is. They're riding this #### out. WTF!

I think jose is supposed to die relatively soon. The doomcasted storm hitting long island would be Lee assuming its not some love child of Jose and lee together.  Ill check later. I mean thats a 10 day track. Error is basically the surface of the earth.
Actually, it looks like it is Jose.  If and when Lee ever develops, it will take longer than 10 days to make a trek to NYC.  Here are some spaghetti models for Jose.  They look very chaotic, and as you say the error 10 days out is ridiculous, but one of those models tracks towards the North East coast.

My parents have a place in Clearwater....a double wide in a senior community.  They haven't been there in a couple years due to a slew of health issues with dad.  We currently have a sale agreement with the closing date set for Sept. 21st.  I wonder if we will still have a house to sell.
