Path I am seeming puts the centre of the eye off the coast but doesn't that put the eyewall right along the coast?

CNN says protect yourself with blankets, mattresses and if you have a helmet, put it on.
Yeah, if you'll be within 50 miles of the eye of this thing or your area has tornados it isn't a bad idea to put on a bike/motorcycle/football helmet or hard hat or something.  Or just have it nearby in case of tornado warning or near landfall.

I've been watching almost nothing but storm coverage for the last few days.  Does this mean I'm officially old?

And I haven't even gotten my eyewall replaced recently like Culdeus has.

Keep drifting west. Newest European model has it off the coast of Sarasota & St. Pete. Previous one had it overtop Bradenton and right over St. Pete.

Local weather guys saying that it is going to start hitting wind shear and dry air once it hits the Keys weakening it some and speeding it up.We should start seeing worsening conditions around 2 instead of later tonight.

Heavy squalls coming onshore Jax Beach last couple hours. Not sure if still NorEaster from yesterday or considered part of Irma. Radar looks like some kind of morph

@Henry Ford

Do you sleep? I have been catching up on this thread at night and then in the morning and you are posting on here throughout the  whole day since you started watching Irma. That's FFA dedication there!

Gov. Scott on GMA looks dead tired.
"Voldemort" always looks a bit rough, but yeah, he's been at this for a while. Not his biggest fan, but appreciate how he's been handling this storm. He's not screwing around. My kids were supposed to have school on Friday, until he put a statewide cancellation into effect at 9pm Thursday night, and I was pretty relieved. He's not pulling punches in his press updates, he was flat out telling people to evacuate or they could die.

I'm an insomniac.  I make myself sleep some during the week, but often on weekends I don't sleep at all one or both nights and take a nap or two over the couple of days.

You know, I've hated that guy for 7 years now, and passing on the federal rail money was a horrible stupid thing to do......but he's been in front of the tv and his team coordinated an A+ plan to get people out of Florida yesterday. There was plenty of gas, FHP to help, shoulders were open. Great job.

Easily the best thing he's done

That jog East I notice on radar may just save Key West a bit from surge.
Surge will be alive and well.....but eye wall destructive winds will be avoided it seems. So that was a huge break if this continues holding it current track.

As far as the Surge...it takes 2-3 feet off it....but they will still have at least a 7-8 foot surge instead of a 9-11 foot surge.

He sounds like a nervous 5th grader when he's reading at the podium. Xant stand listening to or looking at him

I thought all you Mississippi dudes were laid back and chill?  Get some shuteye my friend, we need your kind down in the to uphold Virtute et armis

Eye came ashore over Cudjoe Key.  Does that mean Cudjoe was calm?
It's not good GB......it will be calm for a bit, but on entering the eye the most intense winds and on exit it will have the most intense winds.  I think that's right.  That too means Big Pine was part of the eye...not good for my FIL.
