***Official 2017 NCAA Hoops Tourney thread: Congrats UNC, all the refs from NCCG should be banned for life*** (1 Viewer)

Just went through a bunch of my office brackets. At least 4/5 of the girls literally just have chalk the entire way, it's pretty funny.

This is an amazing tweet from pft commenter:

Not suprised Jacksonville St is giving Lousiville a scare given Coach Pitinos history of busting in 15 2nds

USC-SMU has been very entertaining
Hoping SMU can avoid picking up any more dumb fouls down the stretch. They have no bench to speak of.

Meanwhile, my wife picked SMU not because she's ever heard of them, but because their center's name rhymes with "Beaujolais". No prizes for guessing which one of our brackets goes to 21-0 if they win.

  at announcers playing up winning records in close games as being "clutch". The only thing it means is that you weren't good enough to blow bad teams out.

####### SMU.  Thanks Kenpom.

not calling a timeout seems a little questionable on that last possession.

though SMU does seem like a pretty poised and disciplined offensive team.

WT actual F? SMU obviously had no last play drawn up there. But hey, they get to take those 2 timeouts home on the plane with them!

Why do so many of these dumb teams casually jog down court with under 10 seconds left, then dribble or pass away from the basket to waste even more time, just so they can start actually trying to score with 2.5 seconds left and get a horrible look?

They didn't know what they were supposed to do at all. Agree with others questioning no TO.

SMU alum here.   Seems like every year they win 25+ and go out in the first. Really thought this was their year to advance and upset Duke.  So much talent there  :kicksrock:

If I was a major basketball program, I would be happy to have Jacksonville state Giga as my center.  A 7-footer who can hit threes, has good hands, and a soft touch near the rim.

Grabbing with two hands gets a pass.  The intentional shove which sends the guy to the floor is going to get you a flagrant.
Fair but the shove isn't what put him on the floor.  He pretty clearly tripped over the guy's feet.

ETA: I think if he doesn't trip and fall there's no way they would have called that there.

I don't disagree in principle, but look at the reverse camera angle and tell me the Razorback wasn't deliberately selling that call. It looked like something out of a La Liga match.

I understand that that's the way refs have been instructed to call the games but it's tough when the game is in the balance.

Am I imagining things? Or did I read a graphic earlier that a team hasn't gone over 100 in a tourney game since something like 2001?

UNC just made it two in one day.

Are people watching on 4 inch high TVs that cut off everything below the player's knees or something?

He wasn't selling anything.  He tripped over the SH guy's leg.  You're running full speed and something takes out one of your legs and you fall over.  That's what happens.

I feel like Dayton is destined to win this game, just to further screw people like me who dig into advanced metrics at the expense of the office women who go straight chalk.
