Man I was about to hate on that kid and then I remember at his age that I would shot gun key stone lights to talk to chicks and then completely blow the whole conversation

Gonzaga played great defense all game, don't get me wrong.  But watch the last 30 seconds and they are all standing around.  No movement, no screens.  Carter dribbling in one place.  That is so easy to defend.

Buzz had some issues with the administration at MU and was getting while the getting was good.  Va Tech just happened to have a opening at the time.

He's a helluva coach but I don't know if I'd want him as the face of my educational institution.  This is probably a bigger issue at non-football schools.

His deal at Marquette was about $500K more per season but his contract was coming up and there was hemming and hawing on the administration's side.

Marquette spends a lot on their basketball program.  Their annual hoops budget is the highest in the Big East and larger than most public institutions

:goodposting: He was sort of looking for an out and got it. Jesuit universities aren't the greatest to work for, go figure. Plus money.

Why would he be a bad look as a face of an institution? 

I always thought I read that VT overpaid for him but maybe it was someone else.

I've followed  Marquette hoops closely ever since I started paying tuition there.   Buzz or his people were always putting his name out there for other jobs for a couple of off-seasons prior to leaving for Blacksburg.  He's a great guy to lift a moribund program up but he gets bored easily and had a knack for antagonizing people in power.  The Marquette community seems happy with Wojo's square jawed earnestness.

You can bump this in a decade after Buzz makes the Hokies into a perennial contender.

You're pretty spot on though. Great energy guy and great for the community. But ultimately I think he really saw what the Big East was becoming and wanted to bail for something even a half step better. 

Either way I'm not sure if I want the X or AZ to win this. Bucky has stabbed both in the heart for the last 3 seasons.

Yeah, that's good point about the Big East.  There was legitimate concern about it imploding the year before Buzz left.  It's stabilized although it'll never be the same as the 16 team juggernaut.

 
Can't believe when you are down by 1 or 2 you don't try and drive for the hoop vs throwing up a prayer 3. Drive to the bucket make it or draw foul are the better possibilities
