***Official 2017 NCAA Hoops Tourney thread: Congrats UNC, all the refs from NCCG should be banned for life*** (1 Viewer)

??? since when?
:lmao:

I mean, it's not Santa Barbara or Austin, but I went to a game there back in 2008 and I was pleased with the coed crop.  Now part of that is being an untappable old ugly, but I know pulchritude when I see it and I saw it that day.  Also, I used to audit a tractor dealership in Spokane in the 90's and the local gals weren't nearly as bad as some other cities.  I'm looking right at you, Tacoma.

Random observations from last night:

1)  If KU plays D like that, it's over.  For everybody.  Best energy I have seen them have on defense maybe ever.

2) I love me some Huggins, but I was ready to smash the TV when he turned off the pressure and went zone for those 2 trips early in the second half.  Gonzaga scored 7 points in 2 trips and that (along with the 4 or 5 easy transition opportunities they somehow managed to botch) was the difference in the game.  I thought they were ready to crack, but that little cushion took the game pressure off the Zags for a few minutes.

3) Gonzaga showed way more toughness than I thought they had.

4) Very impressed the refs were able to cover their asses with the inadvertent whistle call.  Reminded me of the football commercial where the ref leaves his mic on by mistake "you, make the juggling motion thing with your hands..." I especially loved when the one ref made the guy that blew the call leave the monitor and brought the other guy over.  How was nobody telling CWeb in his earpiece the reason the review was taking so long was that they couldn't by rule just say WVU ball because it didn't go out of bounds?  I thought they were going to have to go with either A) go with the blown call and give it to Gonzaga or B) make a call that they weren't allowed by rule to do and give it to WVU.  Either way, they would have killed on every sports show today.  This way, they may hear a bit of it (as posted above), but basically got out of it and saved a lot of face.

5) How Sean Miller's Arizona teams have none of the toughness of his Xavier teams is mind-blowing.

Wisconsin seems to be a very popular pick on the Internet. Seems like I see 8 people picking UW to every 1 I see taking the Gators.

Obviously somebody somewhere must be betting UF as they remain 1-1.5 pt favorites.

UW might present match-up problems inside and they certainly have more tourney experience by a wide margin.

One thing that might be key for Florida is if they can get any good minutes out of Gorjok Gak. Gak is a raw freshman center out of Australia that was injured much of the season and didn't play much when he was available. He didn't log a single minute in either of the two Vandy losses that led up to The Dance. However, in each of the first two tourney games he's played 4-5 quality minutes while the games were still closely contested and played well each time. Ian Eagle actually said "It's a Gak attack!" Saturday he was so impressive during his first half stint against UVA.  Need more like that tonight.

Not surprising. Outside of Kentucky the SEC still doesn't get a lot of respect nationally.

My thoughts on the Carolina/Baylor game tonight.

Baylor is an excellent defensive team so points are gonna be tough to come by. They rank 307 in turnover margin and we rank 6. This is gonna be a huge factor in the game. We need to turn their turnovers into easy baskets without their defense getting a chance to set up. Also, with their talented bigs Chris Silva, and to a lesser extent, Kotsar have to stay out of foul trouble, especially early. Silva fouled out of 10 games this season. We need him on the floor for at least 30 minutes. We also have to be able to knock down some outside shots so we force them to extend their zone. This, hopefully, will allow us to drive to the basket and create fouls. A lot of ifs but we need these to go our way to win this game. One advantage that I think we have is coaching.

Just to prepare everyone's eyes, Baylor will be wearing their highlighter uniforms tonight.

With all of that being said,it's time to go fire up the Weber Kettle and cook a couple of Costco Filets and get ready for game time.

My rooting teams tonight:

Butler. It probably won't happen, but PLEASE - I don't ask for much.

South Carolina, though Baylor winning wouldn't bother me; mainly just rooting for the SC fans here. By the way, South Carolina fans, you calling your team "Carolina" doesn't register with most of the country. For better or worse, that name belongs to Satan's Spawn in Chapel Hill.

UCLA. My (much) younger cousin grew up in the 90s/aughts in Maryland and decided to root for UNC because they won a lot and was insufferable. Then, when she got to choosing a college, she went to ####### Kentucky and got even WORSE.

Wisconsin. This is (almost) only because I've watched them much more than FLA. I'd be fine with UF winning, but I think the old-white-guy media jumped on Hayes like a bunch of cowards when he expressed his opinion about Kaepernick's stuff last Autumn.

I here you but look at these uniforms.

North Carolina

Carolina

UNC puts North Carolina on their uniforms. They call themselves North Carolina.

Not only that, back in the 1800s the entire area was known as Carolina. The northern Carolinians decided to branch off and call themselves North Carolina.

I'm glad you're pulling for us though.

I hear ya, ITZ. I'm just saying, if you go most anywhere in the country and say to a hoops fan "Carolina", they will think UNC.

Butler's in trouble

Can't will your psychopathic anger into five star recruits laying out and banging Arizona co-eds.

need gritty under-recruited prospects with a chip on their shoulder in an Ohio ####hole.

With all due respect to the great Gators and Bruins fans we have here, I'm rooting for Bucky and Kentucky in the late games.  There's a couple Wisconsin graduates in my immediate family (as well as several high school friends), so Bucky's success makes my life easier.

Gotta fade the Ball family... and I just had so much fun at Rupp a few weeks ago, and I respect how Calipari tells the NCAA to F itself on its high horse.

Nobody likes Florida

It's one game, dude.  Try going to a 4 game first round session.
Except those are broken into two, 2 game sessions and they clear the arena in between sessions practically forcing you to find a bar for a couple hours. At least that's how Indy was Friday.

Oh.....and it was St. Patrick's Day. There was that too. A couple older Louisville fans literally left the arena about 5 minutes into their game. I said "your game's just getting going". They said "we've had 5-6 beers already and have no interest in stopping. We're going to a bar". Cracked me up.

Davidson's leading scorer in 2008 was Steph Curry who won NBA MVP in 2015 and 2016, and is mentioned in the front runner for Most Hilariously Tasteless Metaphor of 2017.

UCLA looks better early but making stupid mistakes.  Seems like when teams give away stupid points it always comes back to bite them.
