If Jones turns out 100% pre-injurywe may have gotten two fourteenth overalls in the draft. That would be pretty good value IMO. :thumbup:

 Gibson has good size and is an all-day field stretcher with blazing speed to climb over the top of cornerbacks quickly and the ball skills to finish the catch. While his hands can be a little inconsistent underneath and his routes are underdeveloped, his size-speed combination will offer a team a homerun hitter who forces defenses to keep a safety shaded his way. Gibson could be a low-volume, high-impact starter fairly early in his career.

I understand people knowing a lot about guys like Jones and Barnett but its funny even if you sit in all day Saturday with over 100 college teams how are we experts on every college player. How many San Diego state games do any of us really watch. They did well in first 3 rounds and from reading a few reports it looks like they loaded up on ST the last few picks but I would bet all of the message board experts hated Sproles coming out in the 4th rounds and this guy was more productive thenSproles. These boards are fun to give our opinion but to act like its the worst  pick ever when its a 4th or 5th rounder when they are all gambles.

 
do the eagles have the last pick in the 5th round or did they trade it to Miami?  I am seeing conflicting draft orders on different sources.

I see now that they got this pick from Miami.

:rolleyes:   I watched every San Diego State game for the past 17 years.

 
Seems like a solid draft to me. Not sexy from a fantasy perspective with no high picks at skill positions, but solid. Most look like contributors.

WHat about that safety?

 
We got positions we needed. I like the "mud at the wall" approach with the WR's too. We have Some spots open so it's good to create some competition. 

Mack Hollins working with Wentz is key.

im not a fan of Gibson. He should have stayed for his senior year. He doesn't have the best hands and is somewhat of a one trick pony in running the go route. 

He will be a good punt and kick returner, but I'm not sold on his college production of speed translating to the NFL

 
Seems like we got some guys that will start in this draft.  All you can ask for really.  If Jones turns into a top cb this is a great draft.  I really like the other cb from West Virgina.  His numbers and measurables are great

 
Clement was graded out as a fifth round pick.  Kinda forgot about him.  He's the kind of back we need.  Wouldn't be surprised to see him get some serious consideration

lol yeah. bit of an over-exaggeration here. If this team relied on Mixon that he would haunt us we were doomed anyway. the offense goes through Wentz, not 3 straight downs at RB

 
They weren't building their Super Bowl team solely on this year.  That being said, they might be able to make the playoffs this year.

Rb doesn't bother me.  

Smallwood fell in the draft last year over issues and he looked satisfactory at times when he was playing.

Sproles is Sproles for one more year.

Pumphrey will be given the chance to be Sproles and if he's up to the job, he'll make a nice complementary back to Smallwood or to whomever they draft next year or the year after. 

 
Like many have said, this draft feels like a B+ to me. I can see the upside with most of their picks. Just can't get behind the Pumphrey selection. Even if they are high on Smallwood, how do you pass on potential three down backs to take a special teamer? Personally I was hoping for Jeremy McNichols, but there were several other players available who would have fit the bill. Have to remind myself that I have not spent months analyzing these players like Howie and his crew have - but I still have a hard time mustering any excitement for Pumphrey. Very glad that they addressed the secondary early and spent picks on WRs too. Will be watching the UDFA market with mild anticipation, and crossing my fingers for a veteran RB signing.

(How about offering a player or late 2018 pick for Ingram or Hill?)

Pretty great offseason for the Eagles.  Build up defense through the draft and sign solid WRs through free agency.  Just get a decent RB and they're ready to roll.

 
It has begun. Four times in the last 24 hours I have heard Philly people (2 in person, 2 on sports radio), call him Donnel "Humphries." That all 4 went the extra mile and not only pluralized his last name, but also changed the first letter completely, tells me it's gotta be something in the wooder.

the bolded can't be emphasized enough. When you realize this, it does admittedly take some of the fun out of the draft, but it is kind of silly to think people who do this year round have a worse opinion then we do. Of course the failure of many picks makes it easy to overlook their experience, but I think we can give Douglas at least 1 year, should be 2, to show that he knows what he is looking for

 
Going through the WR depth chart this morning on WIP.

Jeffrey, Smith, Matthews, Agholor, Hollins, Gibson, DGB, Treggs. Turner

Jeffrey and Smith are locks to be here.  DGB/Treggs/Turner are virtual locks to be gone.

That basically leaves 4 guys for 3 spots.  Hollins almost seems the next most likely, because of his upside as a WR and is purportedly a special teams beast.

Agholor seems unlikely to cut because of his money situation.

So it might make the most sense to try to trade Matthews given that his contract is up at the end of the year and he could have some value.  Unless they think that they can sneak Gibson on to the practice squad, but could be risky.  Or if Agholor just looks like crap and Gibson is showing some flashes, just bite the bullet and give up on Nelson.

Regardless, with what they've just done, should be interesting to watch it all unfold over the next 4 months.

Perhaps they can find an optimistic GM to take Agholor off their hands for a small return, much like the DGB deal last year. Any kind of deal would at least free up cap space and a roster spot. A change of scenery may actually help him unlock his potential. Maybe a bust-for-bust deal for another underperforming member of that draft class? 

 
been listening to a few podcasts, etc. I'm really loving the Sid Jones pick now and think it was the best pick by far. Looking excited to see the kid play whenever he is ready, whether it be '18 or what

A buddy of mine told me that he heard about what a good ST player Mack "Hawkins" is.

 
The Sidnies Jones pick seems to be very polarizing. But I don't think the Eagles have any blinders about it. They know it's high-risk, but also high-reward. Good to see them at least going in that direction, deliberately. 

My view: if the day before the draft, knowing we had no second-rounder in 2018, we got offered: our 2017 second-rounder straight up for a 2018 first-rounder that would be between 14-18, I think most would have jumped on it. 

That's essentially what this is. You get an extra first-round talent for next year. Yes, it's possible he doesn't come back 100%, but there's a level of risk taking someone like Quincy Wilson this year, instead, who just as easily could go down the first week of training camp like we have seen happen multiple times (or not pan out, talent-wise.)
