Think he is worth holding as a handcuff to Blount or is he a lost cause this year fantasy wise?
I wouldn't waste my time with either. Blount may get TDs but who knows when they come. In PPR I have Sproles just because he's good for 7+ guaranteed every week. This past week he had 9 pts. What did he do really? Smallwood I just have no faith he'll every be the man.

I've got Smallwood stashed in a league with deep benches, for now. I think he's the best bet to emerge from the pack as a decent fantasy play and somewhat of a feature back, in this offense.

I have Blount in my other league, and took him just for the potential TD production, but after the preseason, and the first game, I don't like what I've seen. 2 or 3 times he got tackled by his foot last week. Just easily tripped up by a hand near his ankles. And he couldn't convert those 2nd/3rd and shorts. Whether it's he's lost a step, the line played bad, or a combo of both, none of it bodes well.

I've never understood Blount. He runs like he's in some alternate-universe football version of Freaky Friday where a 5'7" scat-back woke up one morning in the body of a linebacker.

I thought two years under Belichick might have retrained him to just look for a crease and run to daylight, but it's like the minute he took off the Pats uniform he reverted right back to his bad old ways. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't last the season on our roster.

I would like to wager some cash on opening kickoff being an onside attempt. My head might explode with all the trick/gadget/goofy plays we see on Sunday.

A trend this week I'm not liking: Coaches and players repeating the mantra of "the big plays were there, we just need to execute better." That's the same rut Chip got into: "the plays I'm drawing up are awesome, it's these knuckleheads that can't make them work. So I'm going to keep calling them until they get it right."

Sometimes you have to accept you don't have the talent or skill at the necessary positions to execute the plays that look perfect on a chalkboard. If your WR screen play is designed perfect, but it depends on your speedy WR and your tall WR sticking pancake blocks at the line, it's probably not going to work most of the time.

I would hope that's just coach speak and in reality we won't see that play again.

Pumphrey tore his hamstring in practice... out indefinitely.

Not like he was doing much anyways but this might be the final writing on the wall for him.

WIP kept speculating that the Eagles were hoping they could IR him for the year for a phantom injury just to be able to keep him but not have him count to their roster limit. Looks like the team got their wish.

Yea he'll be the convenient IR stash they hoped for. Take a year to build him back up and maybe turn him into a player.

my first thought.  hopefully no lingering effects, but putting him on IR is useful.

Still hurts his development since he'll be rehabbing forever basically.

WIP can now harp on this for the next 9 months too

I cant put my finger on this game either.  I'm struggling with this game for a few reasons.  Did KC player their SB on Thursday?  How big a part is Berry to what they do on D?  Doug has ben with Andy for how long, so who knows who better?  KC being home is big but our biggest issues on D would be CB,  is Smith good enough to exploit them though?  It feels like a game that could be close or a blowout with KC or us winning.....lol

I don't think Pumphrey will play another down for the Birds.  To me, Clement looked the better RB.....but I do think the Pumphrey situation was one where an ego( Howie) couldn't basically admit to throwing away a 4th round pick on a player who couldn't play. IIRC, Baldy or Mayock said on the radio that he wouldn't have been surprised at the draft if Clement was the 4th rounds and Pumphrey the UFA signing.  If there's no cap ramifications (which I can't believe there would be).....dropping him quietly next year will be the move.

I think KC has better big playmakers on O, a better coach and a HF advantage.  If this were the middle of the season and last week wasn't the Pats.....maybe the Eagles go in there and take it.  But KC losing this game after what they did in NE kind of negates the statement they made with that first game.  KC is probably viewed as one of the top dogs in the AFC.....and real top dogs don't lose a game like this to a inferior (not by much though) opponent.  KC wins.......but Philly doesn't embarass themselves at all.

Smith doesn't have the arm to exploit Phillys CBs but he might throw a couple of 60+ yard TDs to Hill.

Maybe.  Sproles is gone and there's a decent chance that Blount will be gone as well.  We felt comfortable keeping him as the 5th RB so unless it's something we address big time, a better option emerges or he just looks awful again I think he makes the team.

He looked bad.  I was expecting at the least a flea carrying the ball; evasive and shifty and having another gear once he got past the line.  He didn't do anything.

Where struggle with the KC game is that....what if they aren't a top dog?  As much as I like Hill he is on a streak of something like 6 games with TD's longer than 60 yards? You'd have to think that has to run out sooner rather than later.

Pumphrey did look bad I agree but I only put so much stock into that for a rookie.  The eagles may not like Clement as much as we do.  He seems to have made the roster strictly for ST.

Well with the "phantom injury' assumption, are they implying that he isn't even actually injured?

My understanding of a "phantom" injury is one that is either an illusion or exaggerated.  Like he's not really hurt that bad but they put him on IR anyways.  Was assuming WIP was implying that they'd suddenly find an "injury" and IR him... thus not really needing that much rehab.

Gotcha.  yeah, that's how I understand the phantom injury to work as well.  The only issue with those is that the players don't have to stay on IR and they can seek an injury settlement.  Im not 100% sure of the specifics but once they agree to that they can become a FA but only after a certain amount of time I believe.

Despite what we saw in the pre-season games the staff must have seen something in him in practice that they liked though.

That, or like another poster suggested, they don't want to admit that he was a bad pick and simply drop him.

The injury thing is interesting for sure.  Maybe he knows he wouldn't get picked up by another team and is okay being on waivers with a good shot to become relevant next year in Philly because he likes the offense and Blount/Sproles will be gone?  I guess that would be a hit to his pride and most NFL players would rather play or have a shot to play but maybe he agrees this is the best situation for him?  Or maybe he really did tear it badly.

I'm thinking he tore it badly and we know that Sproles and Blount are gone and wanted to hold him. That's how it reads anyway.

Good write up.  This doesn't have the feeling of a "trap" game to me.  Maybe without the 10 days off or going on the road.  But this seems like a team that wants to keep their pedal to the medal this week and starting 1-1 after that big win and lots of rest would be a MAJOR loss for them.

51-6 KC.

EDT:  Kidding of course.  But I still see 27-20 unfortunately.

Going to the game. Hoping the Eagles play well, even if they do happen to lose to a quality opponent. I would love to see Wentz to Agholar TD's become a regular thing.

Are we sure it's legit ant just not one of those we're stashing a player on IR that wouldn't have gotten through waivers for the PS type deal so he can develop?

I'm kinda surprised it took till now for him to "tear his hamstring".  I was expecting it right before the cut down to 53.

So, do they call up C.J. Smith off the PS?

If the d line can play as well as last game, I think that it will be hard for smith to get it downfield.  He kind of needs time to load up and seems to generally be conservative.  However, I could see an aggressive defense being susceptible to some reverses or other trickeration that Andy loves to pull out, especially problematic with hill of course.

Also, chances of a shovel pass occurring in this game are greater than 100%

Some screens to Hunt/Hill/Kelsey seem to be likely.

Eagles Defense is better than New Englands. It just is. So I don't expect KC to roll. However, they have some great weapons. Hill scares me more than Hunt. That Chris Thompson play last week makes me wonder what Hill would look like dancing through our secondary.

On offense, we're going to have a tougher time. KC defense is worlds better than Washingtons. But no Berry should let Ertz be a huge weapon. I think if Carson can connect to Torrey or Alshon on a deep ball early, that will back the defense off a bit. Should open up Ertz and the short game.

All that said, I say KC 19 Eagles 17. It'll be hard fought but just a bit short at the end.

Me too. I think they somewhat "contain" Hunt and by doing that, Hill goes goofy. And Kelce is no slouch either. The fact that we're going to see a lot more Patrick Robinson tomorrow is ungood. Remember how terrified we were (well I was) about our secondary before we traded for Darby? I might sleep with the lights on tonight. On top of that the situation is just ugly. Back to back road games, against a non-conference home opener (and it's not the Jets), sandwiched between two division games, and Reid having extra days to prep. I can't see this being all that close in the end. The Jedi master schools his padawan.  :kicksrock:

In honor of Frank Vincent, Andy is going to tell Doug to go get his ####### shinebox and Doug's gonna stuff his body in a trunk. It might be a pickup.

Anwin today would be gravy! Just glad they won week one.

Fantasy question: what are your thoughts on Jeffrey? I'm sitting in main league and until I see more chemistry. Also worries about KC stud corner on him....
