Our media is always slow. This is a passing team and the writing has been on the wall for a while.

We're so close to being a very good team IMO. A few areas to clean up, but we're close.
Seriously. I get the want for balance but if it's not working, what's the point.

Post game show evicerating Doug and the 2-1 play calling.
Did they try at all to establish a run? Game wasn't on here but looks like only Sproles got carries?

We were right there most of the game, sucks this one got away. I feel good about the team though, think we could put together a good year.

That was a very encouraging showing.  The OL gave Wentz a lot of time in the pocket even when the Chiefs knew we were throwing.  Flip side is its a bad run blocking line.  I think Peters is showing age as a run blocker but still a very high level pass protector so it's changed the entire dynamic of the line.

This is a team built to throw the ball, and hang wringing over playcalling isn't going to change that.  In fact, I'd be pissed if Pederson tried to stubbornly stick to the run the rest of the year and I think he's smart enough to not do it.

On a fantasy note, grab Wentz if you can.  He's going to end up a top 5 QB in all formats, IMO.

Tried early weren't getting anything. Went to the old if run game doesn't work our run game will be screen game. The issue is Wentz needs to learn to throw them better.

Exactly. It's normal but with our media they can't just accept that you got beat by a better team. They HAVE to crush someone every week.

This tweet made all the sense in the world to me:

Eagles running backs can't run, Eagles offensive line can't run block, but sure, keep running.

Peters is showing his age of course and we are to light at LG and C, and when you add in Ertz a running game isn't the way to go.

As far as Wentz being top 5, I've been saying that for a while now. The future seems bright with him.

I think Wentz will be a top 5 NFL QB, but that's going to take another 2-3 years.  I mean he's going to be a top 5 fantasy QB because he's going to be chucking the ball a ton this year and he looks capable to be a volume passer already.

If the O-line jells and the rather nice D plays even better, we know we have the QB. This team could play with anyone if progress continues.

I agree, but to have a shot don't we have to have some kind of run game when the matchup calls for it?

Don't really agree on the ol.

Don't really agree on the ol.
It was an odd game. When the line played well they gave him a whole lot of time to throw the ball. There was a couple plays when he was just sitting there waiting and waiting and waiting. And then when the bad showed up it was our guard and center getting blown up almost immediately

Still a bit concerned with Carson's accuracy. Too many times we see the WR jumping up or going to the ground to catch the ball. Still showing off a quick mind and terrific ability to move around though. That accuracy MUST improve if he's ever going to reach that next level.

Overall, game was about what we could hope for IMO. Chiefs are a terrific team playing at home with a coach who has always been light-out when given extra time to prepare. This Eagles team is pretty good even with a few deficiencies.

Carson missing the deep ball is a concern. I love the kid so don't light me up, but he has had the long pass open two weeks in a row now and hasn't connected.

it is funny, i don't check the local sports talk much, but it is a silly question. Would love one caller to call in or check in and ask the sports media about Packers or Patriots running games

ETA: oh sorry, i just saw you were thinking we needed a running game. certainly helps, and really hamstrings a team if there is no threat of it, but i don't think a running game is end all, be all. Certainly will help, and will make this team weaker i they can't even threaten with it ever, but i think with today we saw it is enough of a threat with Sproles, etc. that defenses can't ignore it

I'm curious to see what his stats are on pases 20+ yards. I'm not making excuses for him but I see people missing deep balls a lot in the games I watched. Brady missed a bunch last week, Smith had Hill open for a deep TD sand missed him and I've seen a few in this GB & Atlanta game. I don't know if it's a concern or the norm.

Of course. But I don't automatically think we're better than the cowboys just yet.
I don't either.  Just said we might be the best in the div.

Dallas looked bad today but they have the talent to turn it around.  Excited for our home opener next week I feel really good about it.

His long balls dont really pass the eye test either.  Doesn't have that pretty long ball that you trust when he chucks it deep.  However, he sure does rip pretty tight throws in that 10-20 yard mark between the hashes.  I think that's his forte and it's a good one to have.  Converting on 3rd and longs is going to be massive for us and he's very good at that.

I think Philly is the best team in the East. No shame in losing at KC, the Chiefs might be the best all around team in the NFL right now.

So the drum beat for the 5 minutes I listened this morning seems to be Doug needs to be fired because of the run pass ratio in a game everyone agreed we would lose last week.  It's bad enough that they put the assinine callers on with these ridiculous POVs but they could at least be like nah let's not go that far. No the hosts agree with the callers and want Doug fired.

And right after they'd fire him the narrative will be "you can't keep firing coaches after 2 seasons!!! Howie must go!!!!!"

Really?  We did fine against the tight ends last year, and Reed did nothing last week...
Ya on second look tight ends didn't do a ton vs us last year, but I think a lot of that had to do with who we were up against.  We didn't have to play KC (Kelce), NE (Gronk), TEN (Walker), CAR (Olson), last year.  Reed was also banged up and either out or injured both games we played Wash last year.

13 catches for 140 yards in 2 games isn't the best.  Either way still happy to not face Olson with our depleated secondary.

So the jist from the radio today is we didn't think they'd win, we know our RBs are terrible but we need to fire Doug for not running the ball enough and losing to a better team.

It's the best cause like 3 weeks ago it was "we need to cut Blount cause he's slow" and now it's "we have to give Blount the ball!!"

I can't remember a year more reactionary than this one. We have an active campaign on the one station to fire the coach regardless of the outcome of the games.

So glad not to listen to that crap
I think I'm done. This is the worst year I can remember.

Ike Reese was the voice of reason today. He's screaming at the top of his lungs "Y'all got the next Brett Favre and you want to pound Blount or Smallwood into the line for 1 yard a dozen more times a game? For what? To prove what?"

Serious question -- who is actively campaigning to fire the coach?  Angelo or Mikey Miss?  I honestly haven't listened to local sports radio in months so I'm just curious who it is?  Can't think of anyone else other than those 2 idiots.

Gargano on 97.5 mornings. You should have heard him after the Redskins win. He went out of his way to praise Wentz and trash the coach as almost losing it for us. Winning in spite of Doug, etc. This morning the most irrational callers were on calling for Doug's head on a platter and he just says "I can't say it's not warranted."  Mikey Miss had been rational but I only heard a piece if it today and he was yelling about run pass ratio.

Angelo has to remain civil cause he talks to the coach every Monday as he did this morning. He got ripped for bowing down to Doug though by the callers.

I don't have a problem with Doug.  I'm not super excited he's our coach but I don't feel he has done anything to deserve to get whacked this early.  If anything he's doing a bit better than I thought.

dunno how to find it online, but you should find the crossing streams podcast with Josh Innes from (ep 55 from 12/15/16), where he dishes dirt about WIP and is especially hard on Gargano calling him a total two-faced scumbag, that he ran Macnow off the show and got Ellis installed so he could have someone to push around, among other things.  Could be a welcome respite from other sports talk...

oh, here it is

Yea I used to like Anthony's fake macho Italian thing when he was happy go lucky. Now he's like a big stupid meatball. He can't take any criticism about Wentz and thinks he can do no wrong. He has no understanding  of any pop culture from  the last 40 years. Whether its schtick or not it's annoying as hell.

I also liked Innes because he was different and spoke honestly. I can see how he wouldn't fit in with the clique.

Wasn't Innes the guy who came from Houston?  I always got the sense that he was disliked by the fans/hosts simply because he wasn't a "Philly guy"
