*Official 2017 Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles* - Parade of Champions Down Broad Street! (1 Viewer)

My new job has so many Giants fans cause it's based in Parsippany, NJ. Tomorrow will be pretty quiet.
Like I said my ex department manager now that I'm in a new department is a Giants fan. He's obnoxious and a real jerk honestly. Loves to take credit for others ideas and you can't be serious with the guy. My Store director is actually on him now and my ex department manager took it out on me this morning as I was helping him out. He's from Bristol and is a Devils/Giants/Phillies/76ers fan so he's on the mason Dixon line of North Jersey New Yawk ###hat and well I like such and such Philly teams but I'm jumping on the bandwagon of these successful NY Teams status. No one in the store likes him. He's gonna be either awfully quite or find some BS with the game to whine about.

I can't believe I ever would say this but I've really enjoyed Tony Roma's commentary on CBS. I've learned more from him in 3 weeks then ever in Aikman's time in the booth. Tony Romo is a perfect example of what a color commentator should be in sports today. And he's only a rookie in the booth.

It looked so hot out there today.  Guys at the end were struggling to get through every down.  What a win.  If it went overtime I'm not sure we win.  Have to love Carson's poise to get us into position after that dumb ### penalty on agolar

I didn't even recognize his voice at first today, I thought it sounded like some amateur high school game commentator.  His voice was so annoying I couldn't even handle it.  Not even saying that because it's Tony, but his voice, tone, etc just sounds awful.

That being said, he does offer up a lot of good inside info and a good perspective on today's game.  I'd enjoy it if those words were coming out of an Al Michaels voice or something, but I just can't stand his voice for some reason.

Beat me by seconds...  SB too?  haha

This sucks.  Injuries are crushing us this year.  Sproles/Pumphrey both out suddenly turns our 5 rb's into 3.  At least the other 3 are playing well.
It may not be the popular thing to say now but I'm kind of happy it creates more reps for Blount, Smallwood & Clement.

I just hope no other injury was bad. I saw Hicks after the game and he walked away without a limp. I have no idea what happened to him.

Hicks and Macleod are the big ones.  We're deep enough at DL to survive Cox being out a game or two, and CB's we need Darby back but Hicks/Macleod are crucial they play next week.

I saw Cox too and he looked fine. I expect them both to play play next week.

Its shocking to see it end up being Sproles' arm because he was really favoring his leg when he left.

Someone mentioned it above--it was HOT in the field today. Like ridiculously hot. Players on both sides of the ball were hurting pretty badly

Week 1 dude was calling out plays seconds before they happened and was right.

How are those guys when you are around them, who's the coolest and who's the biggest jerk?

Ya, makes sense.  I'm sure most current NFL qb's could do the same.  Not many QB's who have played in the last few years are in the booth, but they have as good of an understanding of reading defenses, game play, play calling, etc as anyone.  He's really good at that stuff in the booth, but his voice isn't worth it.

Ertz seems like a real chill guy. Always upbeat.

I haven't seen a jerk player to be honest. I I had to pick someone I'd say Swartz. He's always very intense looking. I don't think he smiles lol

I love how critical he is too.

I've been to a lot of Eagles games and that was the hottest one I can remember.  We were sitting in the sun the whole time and sweating our nuts off.  The vendors behind our seats ran out of water.

In addition to the heat, pretty frustrating game too right up until that finish.  It was kicked to our end zone and we're in the corner so it was tough to tell until the last second and then the place went nuts.  I think most people were just as happy that we didn't have to sit in the sun longer for OT.

I didn't hear the interview with Doug after the game, did he explain that inexplicable choice to go for it on 4th down?

At first I thought it was brilliant to get the Giants to burn a TO so they only had 2 for the last 2:00 drive.

And then I saw he was really going for it and no longer thought it was brilliant.

He cited analytics as the reason to go for it.

I've seen a few charts and he's right from what I understand as well. On that part of the field (43 yard line) and 4th and 8 it's recommended you go for it.

Wentz cant take a sack though. He has to get rid of the ball and even be willing to deal with a pick that's essentially a punt.

BTW, I hated the call at the time but after seeing the result it's fine with me.

Not sure how to feel about it now though overall.  Lotta good, but also a lotta bad.  I guess a lot of the negative can be chalked up to the defensive injuries.  Aside from the shepherd td, probably about as good as could expect.
yeah, i thought it wouldn't be as close, but in hindsight, there were a lot of injuries in game, and even coming into it. Our secondary played much better then i think anybody thought they could.

yeah i am sure the sports radio will talk about this all week and try to bury Doug, but according to the chart (and take that for whatever it is worth), you should go for it most of the time in that situation. the chart was on bleacherreport earlier, can't find it now.

I thought the 4th and 8 was perfectly fine and I know I'm in the minority. They had been moving no problem to that point but only had 7 points to show for it. He took a bet that his QB could get him 8 yards to keep a drive alive to possibly get points vs punting and gaining  20-30 yards of field position when they still have to stop the Giants from driving down.

He trusted his QB and he trusted his defense. QB didn't come through but ultimately the defense did (thanks in part to the catch rules and McAdoo's play calling).

I'll take a gamble like that vs "playing it safe" any day from that spot of the field.  Now if it was on our 43, definitely punt.

The part that hurt big was the sack. If Wentz scrambles for 4-5 (Giants get the ball their 38) or we complete a 7 yard pass (ball on their 36) or even if he throws deep into double coverage and it gets picked (ball down around the 20-30) are all good outcomes for going for it there IMO. Wentz just can't take the sack.

We also need to put things in perspective too--we geneterated 14 points off of two 4th down conversions in the game as well.

Every week that adds additional stress to opposing defenses.

Exactly. That was the worst possible outcome for that play. Even an interception in Giants territory would have been better.

Latest report is that Sproles broke his arm and tore his ACL on the same play! Might very well be the last play of his career.

I thought Sproles knee looked bad. I was surprised the arm was the first report. That just sucks. The toughest SOB for all these years and he sustains 2 season ending type injuries in one hit. I wonder if he'll try one more season now?

No chance in my opinion. This was his last dance anyways, so doing a full year of rehab just to try to come back in the middle of next year doesn't seem likely. Things don't heal as fast/well as you age either and at that point he'll be coming back as a 35.5 year old rb.

Does the chart show the score though?  That is my biggest issue with it.  Being up only 7-0 and risking losing that halftime lead is a big deal imo.  Time on the clock is also a factor that I doubt is in the chart.  It was handing the ball over at midfield with just enough time for them to push for one more drive and not really enough time for us to do anything once we got the ball back in deep field position.  AND the timeout, which rested and reset the defense and made sure they were ready for it.  Lots of other factors besides just where you are on the field and how many yards to gain there was.

The worst part of it was that he kicked it afterwards when he clearly SHOULD have gone for it.  Missing that gutsy call on 4th and 8 is going to make you (and did make him) question the decision and be scared to do it the next time.

I disagree. If he's up 21, 14 or even 10, he probably just punts it away. It was because we were only up 7-0 that he risked it. Try to get at least 3 more points before the half was worth the risk of 20 yards of field position. The sack just made it look worse than it was.

Homers: thoughts on Clement with the Sproles injury? Is it a two man show with Blount/Smallwood, or will Clement have a meaningful role as well?

You gotta stop saying 20 yards of field position.  They could have had an awful punt into the endzone and it would have technically been more than 20 yards.  The likely scenario that 90% of punters could hit would be a fair catch around the 10 yard line, so 33 yards.  I get that saying 20 supports your claim more but its not accurate.

Anyways we can move on from the 4th and 8.  I don't like saying a decision was good or bad based on the result only, and had The Giants walked that into the endzone like they easily could have, it would have been a bigger issue and likely a loss.

He'll get mixed in a bit as a change of pace.  I don't think he's worth an add unless you have 20 man rosters, and even then not so sure.  Some people may see the 8 fantasy points and the Sproles news and think he's worth it but I can't imagine he'll ever have more than 10 carries a game.

Thanks - I do have 20 man rosters, so looking for a potential lottery ticket. Doesn't sound like he's more than a $1 winner scratch off though.

“The kick” is even more impressive after reading this:

ESPN Stats & Info @ESPNStatsInfo

Jake Elliott's 61-yard FG was the 11th make from 61+ yards in NFL history. It's only the 3rd to occur in the final 10 seconds of the game.

Wow that's crazy.  Wonder what the other 2 before his were.  If they were game "winning" or game "tying" or if one of them maybe was irrelevant.

I think he could be worth it for that. should have a better idea in a few weeks of play. Blount is the one that threw me off yesterday, and I am not sure where he was the 1st 2 games. If yesterday was the anomaly, I think Clement gets some good carries

Agreed, but are we ever going to have a game with enough total carries to make it worth it?  In the first 3 games we have rushed the ball 20, 13, and 33 times.  The 13 and 33 are probably both outliers a bit, so could see around 20 being the norm so it would take a lot for Clement to ever get more than 10 carries in a game.  He likely gets between 3-7 carries per game so not sure you'd ever start him in fantasy.   Would take a Smallwood and/or Blount injury to ever have him in your starting line up, and at that point I'm sure there's other backup RB's that have a better chance of that happening.

I did find it interesting though that Clement's TD came late in the 4th when the game was tied. If nothing else, Pederson at least seems to have some confidence in the kid.

For sure some confidence, yes.  I would be totally shocked if he carries the ball 15 times in a game at any point this season.

That's the point though. It was a gamble on field position vs setting your team up to score points. Doug took the gamble. I'm glad he did. We needed points and we should hope that our QB, who was easily hitting 10-20 yard pass plays, could get 8 yards.

And unfortunately it won't be the last we hear of it because it will be used all week by the neanderthals on the radio that think football is still won with a fullback and power I.

Sometimes field position wins games.  Your defense is playing great, and you have a chance to pin the Giants' incompetent offense inside their own 5 yard line with 2.5 minutes left and a chance to get the ball back at midfield if your D makes a stand.  Even if your D makes a stand at the 43, you're pinned back deep when you get the ball back and likely would just take a knee into halftime.

Absolute WORST case on that punt is a touchback netting us 23 yards (Every kicker from that spot is skying one up for a fair catch).  It would have netted us 23-42 yards, so likely around 33.

I just don't like that his error (and Carson's error after that) made him scared to do it going forward.

That game was crazy for a lot of reasons, but especially for the repeated, cosmic timing of things that happened for me and my brother-in-law. We were scheduled to work the goal post nets for the 2nd quarter and here's how it played out:

  • Met the Eagles rep near the end of the 1st quarter and there's another pair of guys also working the nets. They are going to put us in different end zones and one of the other two guys is wearing a Giants shirt (that they made him cover with a plain green shirt), so there was no way I was letting them get the end zone where the Eagles were heading in that quarter. As soon as they started taking us down I mentioned to the rep that we did this last year (true) in the South end zone (not true) and asked if we could do the North end zone this year. She said no problem, so we were good to go.
  • We get down on the field near the Eagles tunnel and start walking behind the Eagles bench and the play comes right alongside of us and it's the (fateful) Sproles play. We see him go down 10 feet away and have to stop while a roving camera came over to get a better view. Painful to watch.
  • Now, we're in the end zone, Eagles coming toward us and we get to see Blount's reversed TD and actual TD, up close, with the players celebrating a few feet away. Awesome.
  • After Rasul's INT down at the other end (glad the Giants fan guy got to see that up close!) the Eagles are coming back toward us and we're right there for the deep ball where Alshon had 2 steps on the D, but Wentz overthrew it. Incredible vantage point for what was almost a huge play.
  • Doug does the 4th and 8 gamble that failed and we figure no more exciting things and at least we got to see a TD and work the net for the extra point.
  • After the 2-minute warning, the rep comes to get us and as we walk from behind the goal post we pass a sectioned-off part of the corner of the field where the Sixers (Embiid, Simmons, Fultz, Brett Brown) are watching the game. I put my hand out to high-five Joel, but his head is so high up I'm nowhere in his line of sight.
  • We keep walking back along the sidelines behind the Eagles' bench again. This time, the play goes right alongside us and we watch Fletcher Cox go down and have to freeze, mere feet away, while they send the trainers out. Once they get him up and limping toward the tunnel, we resume our walk, right alongside him, pausing to let him go into the tunnel.
  • As we were walking, Jake Elliott was 2 feet away on the ground doing some stretching and he looked up, we locked eyes, and he gave me a "WTF are you looking at, dude?" look.
  • We walk with the rep to get the other pair of guys at their goalpost, but since our seats are not too far away and there's a set of steps going up from the field at about the 10 yard line, she walks us around toward them. At this point, the Giants are at the goal line after the reversed TD for Shepard not breaking the plane and we stop to watch the series play out 10 feet from the front pylon, right at the goal line. We get to see the dropped TD by Shepard and then the 4th and goal stop, up close and personal. Amazing.
We then watched the rest of the game from our seats and saw the 61-yarder go through the uprights where we were working earlier and obviously had blessed that side of the field with our presence. So, you're all welcome!

Possibly get the ball back with around 30-40 seconds left and a field to drive (they can punt too) or keep the drive alive to score 3-7 points and not let the other team get the chance? Again, I take chance only up 7-0.

It was wrong based on conservative conventional wisdom.  Doug has shown to think outside the box a bit and I like that even if he can't always explain himself well when the microphones are in his face.
