Yeah that was really tough to watch but Shanahan called a terrible game the 2nd half. I bet you Dan Quinn is happy he doesn't get to fire him and he left on his own. Now he cn help Lynch and York turn that barnyard fire into a raging uncontrollable inferno.

I don't fault them for getting rid of Rowe He wasn't fitting in. He was apparently in Schwartz doghouse a ton as well. Eagles didn't see Rowe growing with them and lets not pretend that we gave up a great shutdown young CB. Rowe is avg at best. I still think he's best suited at Safety eventually.

I've been a huge Patterson fan since his Tenn days. like I said I'm a big fan of SEC in general but there's always a few guys on each team or one who I say wow I hope the Eagles take him. I said the same thing about Matthews when at Vandy. It was just impressive what he was doing and producing with such terrible QBS. Very impressed what Franklin got out of him and those teams. I don't think people realize he broke a few records by Julio Jones. I've seen JMatt in Practice and he literally catches everything. it seems to me that its all a trying to register it to gameday with him. Overall Patterson does a lot of stuff Huff did for us but better and he's a terrific return guy

It's a no brainer. He'd come cheap and if he succeeds we barely spent that much. Maybe extend him mid season as well.

I'd be Ok with Munnerlyn or Gilbert from that list. Logan Ryan is also a FA I'd be interested in but signing NE Pats usually means they will never play like they did when they were a NE Pat.

Joe Thomas of the Browns former teammate of Gilbert basically publicly called him out for laziness and saying if your heart isn't into the game doesn't matter your talent this game will dim your star faster than it rose up or something to the effect. There was an article in on the Cleveland newspaper website how Gilbert in HS liked playing WR and returned kicks as he liked the TDs. Sounds to me this guy was more worried about getting attention while on the field then playing football itself. Not sure how true it is but Thomas is very well respected in this league and doesn't just speak up or out on just anyone. he's careful who he goes after and praises. He's been what you'd call a good soldier in Cle for many horrible years now as their LT. Pitt also has huge problems at CB themselves so if they are releasing him then I don't know if I want him. Gilbert needs sometime away if his heart isn;'t into this game and do some self soul searching. Make sure this is really wants to do with his life or move on. Not fair to anyone he signs with or himself. Don't have your heart into this game it'll eat you alive.

for me, one of the things i am hoping most with the front office now is that they can assess and analyze things like what you posted. Some of that I think can be attributed to age, maturity. We see tons of stories where it is more long-term then you like, but i'm sure there are plenty of guys in the league who don't adjust to career professional NFL right away. some guys have talent that can mask that, some don't. But you do get to see some of these guys that start out like that, then 3-4 years in the league they either start to get "it", or it is as simple as growing up and they begin to commit more to it. I think Patterson just needs better coaching and a team who uses him correctly. Minny never used him as the weapon he can be. Some guys are just too immature for the next level. Find out the hard way their coaches in college who keep them out of trouble not happening the pros. People shouldn't be naive all colleges cover their biggest names up. I have a friend who knows the Defense attorney's Husband of the Winston assault case. Dude was bragging how they covered the case up to him and how it's ok because all colleges do it. I was with my buddy down in Florida when he said this too. These guys get under the table money the players, coaches bribe DA's in the campus area as well as law enforcement to not go after their players etc. Once these kids hit the NFL they are in for a shock when they realize dam I can't get away with that here? And are even shocked when the coaches don't even defend them. Basically Winston should be in Jail right now not playing football in the NFL. It's just appalling and sickening a guy who does that to a girl gets away with it all because he throws a football. The fact they paid two different girls off huge money when they did just shows you the school knows the girls were right.
Okafor is totally different then . I also hate the argument of young age. These guys want to go play professionally time to act like an adult or suffer consequences. It's why I think many fans and media are hypocritical and flip ***** when a Ray Rice situation happens and the league doesn't care. All we're doing with age excuse is enabling their behavior. Some guys just think they are special and invincible like Manziel. Okafor I have a friend in the Sports Journalism world in Philly. Talking to the Sixers beat guys it's apparent to him Okafor doesn't get it. Team is done with him but they know they aren't going anywhere. The Embiid out can probably play right now but resting him and not going to the playoffs gives them incentive to play Okafor and hope he can turn into some good trade value. Okafor has huge immaturity issues and one of the reasons they brought in Illyasove was to mentor the young bigs. All but Okafor have had positive effects to Ersan who's apparently upset with Embiid's populairty too. Not only that but he looks disinterested in his defense. He was also getting destroyed in college by bigger guys. His advanced defensive stats have him ranked the worst defender in the league while on the floor. He can't rebound and he's a one dimensional low post scorer. He'll have success against smaller Cs and players but the bigger dudes will dominate him. Okafor's biggest problem is he has talent but the wrong era. His skill set plays better in Shaq's heydays then todays league. We saw how much trouble he had in the National Title game as Wisconsin plays an NBA style offense. His attitude doesn't help him either. He has very little trade value. I think the best landing spot for him is SA with pop and a ton of vets.
Sorry for the rant but I just hate people using the age excuse for these guys. They chose to work in the pros time to grow up and act like an adult. You or I working at a Fortune 500 CO at their age would be fired if we acted the way some of these guys do. Some guys yes it's all maturity and growing up issue but others just think they are too good and why should they change.

Yeah with Gilbert being that young, that high of a pick, at a premium position like CB and about to be on his 3rd team there has to be a lot of issues.
I won't be expecting much from any of the FA CB's for similar reasons. We have to draft a solid one with one of our first 2 picks.

I think you'd be shocked to hear of some of the stuff Reid covered up during his years here. He had very strong "connections" and a powerful security team. I'm of the opinion that it played a significant role in his success because it kept a lot of trash and subsequent distractions out of the media while also endearing the players to him for it. That said there was obviously a private accountability as needed.

Yeah 3 teams in 3 yrs is concerning. We need at least one CB. I'd be fine with Sidney Jones but don't really know much about him and I think we need more of a playmaker which from reading he doesn't seem to be that type. If they went CB 1-2 I'd be ecstatic. Sign two lower cost FAs maybe younger and take a chance on Patterson and let the others develop I'd be fine with.

Andy held the players accountable. However he was able to keep many things in house not to embarrass players or others involved. It's why a lot of people had issues when Andy called out Akers after the playoff loss only to find out he was dealing with personal issues and Daughter with medical issues. The security team was amazing though he had for this team. I think players liked him because he kept issues out of the public eye. There were very few leaks. I don't think he coddled guys as much as I'm not airing this out in public. He did what any great players coach would do. Keep it in house, public doesn't need to know. That's what I really liked about the guy and maybe why many were turned off. He didn't throw players under the bus even if they deserved it. If I remember correctly someone told me they let Buckhalter walk do to off the field issues. That traffic stop apparently wasn't his first issue. I could be wrong however. I know he was very hands on with DeSean and why the two of them got a long well. I think I remember DH going through their personal relationship on here in the Eagles thread when his buddy was on the team in their scouting department. Boy do I miss those days of info right now...

It had little to do with not embarrassing players, although that was a fringe benefit, but more so having full control of a billion $ franchise dependent upon individuals getting paid millions, most of whom couldn't responsibly handle having $100 in their pocket.

So i think all the ideas of WR are plausible, but all have their possible faults. I think i would like to Howie try and pull off a trade with a team rich with WR talent. Looking at New Orleans with Cooks, Thomas, and Snead makes me think they could pry one of them. I'm sleepy but i know there has to be a few teams with some WR talent the Eagles could probably get for not too much and might be a little more reliable then over-paying someone like Stills, or trying their hand with another rookie WR when they have shown they do not exactly specialize in growing WRs. Jets got some old guys, but could be a good option to get a veteran in to work with the young guys
Thomas isn't going anywhere - a cost-controlled 6'3" beast coming off a 1,000-yard rookie season? You couldn't pay the Saints enough. But Cooks has made some dissatisfied noises about his role in the offense, and it'd definitely be worth picking up the phone to get a feel for his asking price. I'd sure as hell rather have him on two more years of a rookie deal than piss away $8-9M a year on a guy like Stills.
Fun fact: despite 2 additional years in the NFL, Cooks is actually six months younger than Thomas.
And don't forget Brandon Coleman, whom I mentioned upthread. He's really the forgotten man in NO's passing attack ... but with his size and strength, I think he might have the ceiling to be a #1 WR. I'd throw a 5th or 6th at the Saints to grab that guy in a heartbeat.

Yeah I agree that had more to do with it. Almost ran the franchise like BB does in NE. The problem the fans had with that was he wasn't as successful on the field as he was.

The Eagles have a promising young quarterback in Carson Wentz. Now they just need to give him some weapons.

No cook in the first please. CB/OT much more important. Davis or Williams would be tempting if they're around though. Go all out with a JMatt+Jefferey+Davis/Williams would be the most astronomical improvement ever. Then CB/OT/RB/BDPA to round out the first 4 rounds.

I'm interested in Emilia Clarke and marrying her doesn't mean it'll happen. Plus La Confora is like the Jon Heyman of NFL. The guy who doesn't research his source to see how credible it is. He's just a mouth piece teams use. I'm not opposed to Jeffrey by any means but if he's getting the contract it's being reported I want nothing to do with him. I think the team could have buyers remorse with Jeffrey. There's attitude and work ethic issues (Do we need another Nnamdi Asomugha?). There's reports that fans an media believe Jeffrey milked injuries in 2015 because of the team trading Brandon Marshall. poor QB player (sup Jay Cutler?), and apparently teammates there were whispers he was milking injuries or not giving his all. He IMHO i questioning his drive to want to be a great player. There were always concerns at South Carolina that Jeffrey skated by and went through the motions because of his talent and allowing that but at the NFL level it doesn't matter what kind of talent you are if your drive isn't there well it's not gonna be a good ride. Get me a Patterson, Bouye/Gilmore, Wheaton/Floyd/Britt/Quick/Pyor/Inmann, draft Cook or one of the CB and go all defense rest of the way mix in some depth needs there and I'd be happy.

Considering it was said he had a very good relationship with Pederson I don't think his character would be an issue. I think Pederson would handle him similar to Andy did. It's interesting Jackson's comments recently but who's to say that isn't his agent feeding him lines right now either and trying to drum up a better deal with Washington and pressure them into resigning him? I think the fans want to keep him and blame his lack of production on Gruden's inability to use him correctly. I remember reading from Was beat guys early in the season how Kirk Cousins just wasn't going deep and there were multiple times they had Jackson wide open for a big play and just didn't go there. Almost seemed like he was employed more as a decoy then anything.

The Eagles were the fifth oldest team in the league last year. I would hope they would have veteran leaders to keep Jackson in line. As a Cowboys fan, Jackson scares me a lot more than any receiver on the Eagles roster right now. You need weapons for Wentz, and Jackson would be an interesting one.

nm, you are correct.
It still seems odd and I will say to the point of vet leadership keeping Jackson in line, the offense is pretty young. Peters is old, but I'm not sure he's the greatest leader. Kelce and Celek maybe, but they could also be gone this offseason. That's about it on the offensive side.
