No reason not to move those guys. They just better not trade Gausman.avoiding injuries said:O'Day, Weiters, Davis and Chen should all be dangled right now. I still have 8 games left of my 13 game plan. That kind of sucks.
Chen's going to get upwards of $20 million and I don't see any way the Orioles pay that. I wish they'd keep him, too, but I just don't see it happening.Marvelous said:I would like to see them re-sign Chen. I know he is going to cost a fortune, but good starting pitchers are hard to find. I like O'Day a lot. But Buck has shown that he can make a golden bullpen from straw. The Orioles are not going to pay for O'Day.
Chris Davis is quietly have a very good season. It is not a 53 HR type of season, but it is very good. I don't think we'll see a sell-off at the trade deadline. They're in that no-man's-land in the standings and usually teams like that stay put, thinking they may have a run left in them. I would definitely dangle Chen & Weiters, though, just to see what they'd bring. If they could get a couple of Top 100 prospects, I think I'd do it. I doubt Davis would fetch much.
They are in a serious offensive funk. Even the games they do get hits, they can't bring anyone home.
As a Mets and O's fan, the Mets part wants NO part of ChriX Davis.Marvelous said:Chris Davis is quietly have a very good season. It is not a 53 HR type of season, but it is very good. Like you said, the Orioles will probably won't do much. Duquette will pick up some fringe players and see if Buck can work some magic with them. They are always looking for the next Nate McClouth.
I am pretty sure they will be low end buyers. They may do nothing in July and work some August trades for players who clear waivers.Great outing by Gausman last night. He's been pretty solid his last few starts minus the 1st inning against the Yankees.
Still unsure if we're going to be buyers or sellers. But they need to decide soon.
I have no idea how good of a prospect Zach Davies is. The Orioles farm system is apparently quite barren. Every article I read agrees on that.Nice pick up in Parra. Can't say I know much about the pitching prospect we sent back, but this guys a great hitter who is really feeling it this year.
I will say it again: Chris Davis is quietly having a very good season. It would be nice to find a way to keep him.Chris Davis is quietly have a very good season. Agreed. This is about the season he should usually be having. 2013 was a fluke and so was 2014. He's not going to hit for a great average, but has enough power to hit 30+ HRs most seasons.I will say it again: Chris Davis is quietly having a very good season. I see the Orioles promoting from within for their pitching.I agree that I'd try to resign Davis over Wieters. I think Caleb Joseph is a decent enough catcher to not go all out to keep Wieters. Chen is going to go too, and I'd guess O'Day will get some big FA offers. Could he close somewhere?
Should they make a try at signing Fister when he walks from the Nats?
Personally, I agree wirth the call. That one's on you, Buck.
Agree to disagree. Pujols was 0-4. Murphy was a career .417 hitter against Matusz with a HR in the game already. Seemed as though Buck walked Pujols simply to get a lefty/lefty matchup.Personally, I agree wirth the call. That one's on you, Buck.
Agreed. Britton should have been in there. If you weren't going to use him in the high pressure situation there, when was he going to use him?Matusz isn't capable of pitching in that situation. He should have brought Britton in. Buck needs to know his players capabilities.
You can debate the walks and leaving matusz in, but with 2 outs, why are your outfielders not playing straight up?
Buck would say in a smug tone that when you are the visiting team you'll need your closer after you get the lead. Then stare at you uncomfortably until you back down. However, Britton has pitched once in August and is more than capable of pitching 1.1 innings. Not to mention, you never actually got to that position.Agreed. Britton should have been in there. The big question I have on the strategy: if you pitch to Pujols, the winning run is on 2nd base. With the Orioles' defense, many singles to the outfield, the winning run won't score. Once you intentionally walk Pujols, the winning run is on 3rd and any hit, error, or walk scores the winning run.ClownCausedChaos2 said:Agree to disagree. Pujols was 0-4. I like Buck. I just think he made the wrong call today.
First of all, my guess is save situations only come up in about 1/3 of the games. They are losing almost half their games and some of the wins should be by more than 3 runs.So if you burn Britton in yesterday's tie game who do you use to close today's lead? I still trust Buck all the way when it comes to managing for 162 games.
Another data point on save situations: The Nationals traded for Papalbon, who would only agree to the trade if he is the closer. In 13 days with the Nats, he has pitched 4 times, with 2 saves and 2 non-save situations. Storen, who was moved from the closer role, has pitched 7 times. This includes his recent blown save, giving up a grand slam, and turning a tie game into a 2 run deficit. Both of those games were likely Papalbon situations if Storen held them scoreless.First of all, my guess is save situations only come up in about 1/3 of the games. O'Day would probably be today's closer. Britton will probably be available Wednesday. And Thursday is an off day. If O'Day is not used today, they could conceivable have O'Day available for 2 innings Wednesday and Britton for 4 or 5 outs.
If the .417 was backed by enough PAs against Matusz, I'd absolutely change my mind there.ClownCausedChaos2 said:Agree to disagree. Pujols was 0-4. It is easy to say this poor start is due to being off for 12 days with his sprained ankle. It was pretty bad.I really don't understand Chris Tillman.
Guy has ace stuff but he's basically a dice roll game to game.
Only 1 I can think of is Chaz Roe. That's honestly it.The_Man said:By the way, can we now begin to point blame at Duquette for the absolute dumpster fire of moves he's made since the end of last season?
DFA'd:
De Aza, Everth Cabrera,Delmon Young, Bud Norris, Parmelee, Snider, Wesley Wright
Traded for peanuts: Tommy Hunter
But he's desperately hanging on to Rule V guy Jason Garcia.
Was there a single move Duquette made this off-season that has worked?
Yeah, they need to go like 8-2 on this homestand to stay in touch with the playoffs. And I don't see that happening.I have a feeling this was the door slamming on our season.
