*Official 2018 Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles* - Tough way to go out. Magic finally gone. (1 Viewer)

When I saw them line up their crap prevent D on 4th and 15 I was already pissed and then Corey Graham said, "hold my beer".

The defense was bad but the coaching and o-line play was right there too.

We are two plays away from being 0-4 on the season.  I've watched 250 minutes of Eagles football, 120 of them at the game and aside from Carson's opening drive against the Colts there's not much of it I remember enjoying.  Sweating a comeback when we're trailing or being uncomfortable when we're ahead and trying to hold on defense.

We have the pieces to be competitive and they better find a way to make them fit fast.

It's still early but coming into this season I was of the hope that we were on the cusp of being on a dominant run perhaps even having a run not unlike NE. At this point though the cynic in me (grateful though I am!) is starting to think that last year was all lighting in a bottle. I just can't get my head wrapped around how piss poor this secondary is except for Malcom and this friggen' O-line is gonna get Wentz killed if they don't get it together. I thought this team was so deep in talent at so many positions?

Maybe be its a hangover and the fact that September is now the actual preseason...

Missed the game yesterday because I was traveling. Sounds like I can be thankful I missed the game.

Vikings and Eagles in a pseudo-elimination game this week. Not really, but the loser will be in a bad tiebreaker position.

This was a terrible loss with a ton of mistakes, dumb mistakes (Corey Graham), coaching mistakes.  Pretty much the opposite of the team we watch in 2017.

..but it is only week 5 and they're 2-2.  More than enough time to get things back in sync.  We know what this team is capable of and I think Coach Doug will right this ship.

We all need to forget that #### show of a game and move forward to Minnesota.

we did have a 14 point lead in the 3rd, so I don't think the team is that far off from last year (though the 5 big drops by Tennessee was a hug help). Secondary is concerning and considering they just got torched by Davis and whoever was the WR2, it is frightening to think how they will do against good WRs. I know I mentioned it before, but the Eagles were 31st last year in variance on defense.

this game was a bit worrisome, but we will see how they do on Sunday against a hungry Vikings team. that game should show us where we stand

Another thing that is concerning is Nelson Agholor is starting to look like his old sucky self.  Dropped a bunch of big passes.

Pederson also needs to start targeting Goedert more.  The guy has the ability to be elite I think but he isn't getting hardly any targets after having a bunch last weekend.

The offensive doesn't look near as imaginative this year either. Maybe the loss of Reich and Difilippo was a bigger deal than we thought it would be.

Yeah, if they're still playing like this in November, then I'll be more likely to believe the lightning-in-a-bottle theory. I think what we're seeing right now is that everything is out of sync because key players are recovering from injuries and there hasn't been time for the first units on both sides to gel.

We had a slow start last year too.  We won a ton of close games - I think all 4 of our first games were decided on the final drive, we just went 3-1 instead of 2-2.  We just that great run from weeks 7-12 where we were blowing everyone out.  Then nothing but a bunch of close ones after that (only Minny in the playoffs wasn't close).

So I think last year WAS a bit of lightning in a bottle - we pulled out a ton of close games, probably more then we statistically should have.

The stars aligned for us last year but that's what happens to almost all SB winning teams.  Some have said we're 2 plays away from being 0-4, but we're also 2 plays away from being 4-0.  The record of our opponents we lost to after we played them is 5-1.  The Titans are better than most people think (they beat Philly and Jax) and Tampa was actually good at that time even though they're not now.  As much as we may have had some lighting in the bottle last year, the opposite is the case this year.

That said, I'm obviously much less optimistic as I was at the start of the season for sure.  Talent is still there though, and we luckily play in a division with 3 bad teams, so 9 wins likely wins this division.  I'm not so confident on this week vs Minny, but don't blow up all hope even if we start 2-3.  We are much better at home and the only good teams' stadiums we visit the rest of the season now are New Orleans and LA.  Wouldn't be surprised if we went 7-4 after next week and got our 9 wins.

Minny has its own problems and we have played much better at home than on the road, so I think there’s a good chance we pull that one out.

If we win 9, it probably means we lost a few division games we shouldn’t have, which may mean we need 10 to take the division. I was hoping for another 13-win team but I think 10 or 11 is more likely.

I really don't think we'll need 10 to win this division.  It's trash.  11 will be fairly tough too, as we'd have to go 9-3 ROS and have games vs Carolina/Minny/Rams/Jax, plus 6 division games.

I thought about that but there’s a year of Doug and Wentz together for DC’s to go off of now too. Teams will figure anyone out. It’s easier when we haven’t had the same line up all season too.

This too.  Though I think the teams that beat us were both pretty good at the time.

We played a Tampa team in their stadium that had just gone on the road and handed the Saints their only loss of the year.
We played a Titans team in their stadium that had just gone on the road and handed the Jags their only loss of the year.

Add this to the fact that we're incredibly banged up at all our skill positions, and were very much in both of those games.  I'm not impressed with the eye test either, but we're not exactly losing to bad teams.  I don't think we need to sound the sirens just yet.

Wentz is lucky he hasn't been injured due to all of the hits he has taken the last 2 weeks. I think the OL has done reasonably well in run blocking but the pass blocking has been really disappointing. Also surprised they seemed to be so confused by the Titans' pass rush and not being able to account for who was rushing and from where. Don't know if that is on Kelce and the OL, or on Wentz, or a combo of both.
I've heard/read a bit about the OL today. It seems quite a bit falls on the RBs, Smallwood in particular, just doing an atrocious job of pass blocking.

yeah clement and sproles being out has effected the pass blocking.

I still cant get over that 4th and 15 pass defense.  wtf was that

I definitely remember seeing a few plays where the RB went to one side of the pocket and did nothing while a free rusher came through the other side of the pocket, so that was definitely a problem. Seems like Lane may not have had his best game either, at least during the later stages.

You know what I was thinking earlier as I watched Earl Thomas flip the bird to his sideline.......over the years as tough as it was to watch how great he was while we passed for Graham it's really funny how things workout. Couldn't have been a more perfect pick than Graham as he ended up making probably the biggest play in franchise history.

Well that's about all the positivity I got after losing to the Titans.  :lmao:

Of all the issues I’ve seen, I think the defensive backfield is the most significant.

They were awful last year too. What gives?

I'd rather have BG over Thomas at this points in their career. BG does his talking on the field where Thomas seems like a selfish drama queen. The crap going to the Dal locker room last year telling them to come get him, holding out and then playing? I say what happened yesterday was karma. To top it all out flipping off his own teams sideline? I've met BG on two separate occasions one autograph signing and one by chance at the KOP Mall before last season over the summer. My cousin lives in Sea from Philly is a season ticket holder (Ironically Cole Hamels sister works at the same company 1 floor down) and he's been to a few Sea Season Ticket holder events and knows some of the big time Season Ticket holders. He's told me Thomas has acted like a jerk on multiple occasions to fans even at team events. From talking to him a few weeks ago when he was in town for a wedding we were at with two other cousins (They are 4 yrs older then me but I use to hang with them and their friends a lot more especially after I moved) and it sounds like Sea fans are ready to move on from Thomas. At least those he's talked too. I don't know about the fans on here or elsewhere but based on some stories I've heard about Thomas I'm glad the Eagles took Graham over Thomas.

At a recent event last year after the Dal drama my cousin said Thomas told some people it was Either Sea signed him or in FA he was going to Dal and only Dal. So why the heck would we trade some valuable draft capital for a rental who would just switch to our biggest rival after the season. My other question is how do we know like many other Sea players he's not a product of the system? Seems more and more these guys leave Sea and don't do #### Maxwell, Bennett, and I know there are others. Then on the offensive side you had Tate and others who go else where and all of a sudden become top guys.

I only read the top line of course.  But yes I'd rather BG than ET if there was no contract issues.  BG is likely gone after this year.

Kind of agree wish there was a way too keep him. Plus we got two safeties when healthy anyway in McLeod and Jenkins. Both have been solid since coming here. I think if we had a safety replace already for Dawkins after he left people would have this obsession with ET and I think many Eagles fans Incredible overrate ET because of that.

McLeod isn't healthy though.  Of course things change... Draft day and first year I would have wanted ET.  Super Bowl I would have wanted BG.  When McLeod went down, ET.  When Thomas went down, BG.  Always changes.  Looking back now though, I'll never wish something different happened that MAY have changed us winning the title.

They actually were not awful last year. In 8 of the last 9 regular season games they allowed 209 passing yards or less. they held Atlanta below 200 yards passing in the playoff game. They played decent against Minnesota. When they are bad though, they are very bad. Both Giants games last year, the Super Bowl, and the two losses this year, they have been bad. So they are very inconsistent. It is concerning though that they have been as bad as they have in 2 of the 4 games this year.

I think the gameplan is going to be much of the same going forward.  With how strong our run D is and lacking our pass D is, teams are going to throw all day.  Am hoping Jim gets them ready for this week or else it will be a long day on Sunday.

mn offensive line is a joke though.  we should be able to hit cousins a lot.

Ya I guess that will be in the game script quite a bit.  To just not give him ANY time to find his likely wide open receivers.  If he has any sort of time then Thielen, Diggs, Rudolph are gonna go off.  This would be a MASSIVE win but I'm quite concerned to be honest.  I just hope we get it all fixed before the Panthers game I'm coming to Philly for.

Not that this is anything important but just saw Donnie Jones came out of retirement to kick for the Chargers.  That rat *******!!!

i think he had been looking for a while.  the Eagles gave him his release several months ago, so I don't think that they were really interested anymore.

Dean Blandino responded to a question on Twitter yesterday and the Harold Landry Strip sack in the 4th QTR of Wentz Landry's hand/arm area come in contact with Carson's head Blandino said that should've been an easy person Foul could as it was forceable contact to the head. Eagles were in a 3rd and 20 and if it was called ball is now on Tenn 40. Tenn got the game tying FG off of that.

Eh, I don’t know.  I think they are just not in synch yet.  Lost key coaches, Barely played during preseason, lotta skill players hurt, getting Carson back in.  I think that last season just took a toll and they still need to regroup.
Our LG isn't playing well no matter who's in there, the Corners and Secondary have been exposed for what we thought was an issue to begin with. We need to look at Gs and DB's for next draft.

Have no idea what Doug was thinking on the challenge

Also, why go for 2 and not try the FG?

Also, why even go for 2??
Are you referring to the 2 that they converted to bring the game to within 6 in the 4th quarter?  If so, there was a thread on here earlier this week basically showing why it's the correct statistical play in that situation.  Most coaches would just kick the extra point in that situation but I'm not surprised that Doug knew the correct call.

Go for 2 is the right call to win. Don't go if you want to tie. Going for two there and getting it means you have a shot to win. Not getting it leaves you still within one score.

The play call on 3rd and 20 following the fumble recovery in the 4th did them in.  Wentz tried to get the 1st instead of getting some yards back to where they could have attempted a FG.  If they do that and make it 20-17, who knows what happens the rest of the way?  It is possible the Vikings do not even try the long FG to get to 23, since it wouldn't have given them a 2-score lead.

This "new normal" sure as hell ain't like the culture they have up in New England. I'm stunned at this season so far.

This was always going to be a tough game to win.  Minny needed this more than us and wanted this more than us.  They're a good team that saved their season today.   Fully expected a loss today, but think we're still okay.  We lost to 3 teams that were hot at the right time, and are decimated with injuries.  We're not doing as well as I thought, and I'm not totally unconcerned, but a short week to play a potentially barkley-less giants team then 10 days rest to play the panthers and I wouldn't be surprised if we were 4-3 and leading the division in 2 weeks time.

All that said, we don't look good right now and I really hope Doug will fix this.

This is the week that matters. As bad as we've been playing, if we win our division games, we probably win the division. Right now I see us anywhere from 8 to 10 wins depending on how we do in the division. 10 probably gets us the division. 8 or 9, we're out.
