One thing is for sure, even though this is Tunisia, Southgate has guys these guys is in positions so succeed. They look very comfortable in this formation.
I like the formation and the amount of speed they have on hand up top.  I'd put Young on a plane home tonight.

But holy hell if they don't get a goal this is just another one of the most English games ever.  Dominant possession - unbelievable chances that they seemingly choke on and then a brainfart on defense.

The only thing that would make this more English would be if the refs had tea and crumpets on the pitch after the match.

I'm so glad Kane scored there.  Otherwise I think he would have needed to take credit for a few others from some other smaller countries.

So, with Poland left to go, as of right now, Europe is 8 wins, 1 loss and 4 draws (two of those were Spain v Portugal)

The one loss of course was Germany :bag:

Europe should really host the WC 3 out of every 4 cycles.

Well, at least Italy didn't lose.

I've noticed another trend.  Arsenal kinda sucks.

Welbeck named, did not play, team wins

Joel Campbell comes on, team loses

Ozil, started team loses, frankly he shouldn't start last game, I will not get into my thoughts on the German game as I purposefully didn't post yesterday so as to get a TO, but no more gunners.

Elneny, started, team loses

Iwobi, started team loses

Monreal, did not play, team draws

Xhaka, started, TEAM DRAWS  :excited:

Just saying.

Imo they need to get Henderson and Ali running the midfield. Hendo was a little too deep and Ali too high at times. A lot of the balls in midfield are being picked up by Lindgren, Young and Tripp and that's where things stall. Trippier puts in a pretty cross, but those other two..w00f. Hendo was the one speeding up play with first touch balls, quick switches late in the game but he didn't do that enough.

I'm fine with replacing Young.  Lingard is a surprise start for me but if you are going to play him and Alli then I would agee with you - push Jesse up and pull Dele back with Jordan.  Honestly, it didn't look too bad to me and if they finish even half of their bigtime chances and Walker doesn't lose him mind then it's a 3-0 win.  My guess is Southgate doesn't change anything since they won - I can't blame him for that but I think he has to sit Young for Rose (or Delph) unless he just can't go.

So, I missed most of the England game due to a scheduling snafu - I inadvertently agreed to take the kids zip lining.  We got back in time for me to see the last 30 minutes or so - is it worth watch the first 60 minutes?

I only watched bits and parts of the game, but without a doubt they will make changes for the next game.

From what I watched, Dele Alli was simply not impactful enough on the game.  He needs to be if England is to run deep as his talent is pretty obvious.  I thought Lingaard was terrific and Rashford made a lot of difference late, but you have to respect he was also running against tired legs.  Bring on Rashford or Sterling or Vardy late is always going to be clutch.

I would have liked to have seen Dier instead of Jordan Henderson.  Sorry, my liverputian friends, but Henderson is not very good.

Kyle Walker and Sterling looked sub par to me today.  Can't sit Walker, but wouldn't surprise me a Vardy/Kane start next match.

Shocked to see Ashley Young get so much run though.

Three points is huge, have to be pleased with the result, no matter how it happened, if you're an England fan.  They really should have scored a few more, but it is what it is.

All three North African sides defended like Carthaginians before giving up late winners.  Senegal is Africa's last best chance for a result in the group openers.

My main concern is whether the lion watermark on the Sengalese kit shows up on television.  It will make the difference as to whether its at the top of the list, or just another bland shirt.

Unfortunately, I won't be watching tomorrow or Wednesday, so will depend on you folks here to observe and report.

I CAN SEE IT!

It was an interesting game tactically.

The first half was wide open, both teams attacked but England had by far the better chances and were hard done to be 1-1 at half.

Then during the half, Tunisia clearly changed their tactics which allowed significantly more England possession (Sluti was invisible in second half for Tunisia after being their best player in the first half), but at the same time far fewer good chances to score.

In the end England deserved to win but it is worth noting that it feels like that has been said so many times the last few world cups with so few 3 points on the board so this has to feel good for the England fans.

Did we watch the same game?  Lingard was horrific and Henderson was excellent.  Alli, Lingard and Sterling were pretty terrible.  I’ve seen suggestions that Alli was hurt.  Not sure if it’s true or not.

Not sure how he does it but Southgate has got to get Vardy on the field.  He has pace that no one else aside from Sterling has, and Sterling can’t shoot.

That ####### should receive a yellow for that BS.  This is embarrassing.
Am I the only one that saw him just fall and not yell for a pk, aka he slipped and knew he did. Oh wait FIFA rankings are #### and we should trust betting lines to determine the rankings

We must have watched different games. I feel like you watched the ball the whole game and not what happens off the ball. Vardy is a great choice if you want to play the US game with the over the top ball

Yes you're the only one. And if you think that FIFA rankings are more accurate, you can have Switzerland at 6 all day long.  I will take the under.

File this away in the useless Trivia department, but:

Harry Kane scored his 15th International Goal in his 25th Cap.

CR7 scored his 15th goal in his 43rd Cap
Messi scored his 15th goal in his 54th Cap

Others:

Klose (29)
Villa (32)
Zlatan (33)
Van Persie (42)
Henry (44)
Lukaku (46)
Bale (49)

I think both of you are using your supporter rose-colored glasses.  Henderson was good and did what he had to do - no mistakes and kept the ball moving.  Lingard was fine too and almost had two goals - I think his biggest asset is making runs and gives them another speedy option.  I like Vardy a lot but only as a sub because with the formation they are playing he's kind of a square peg in a round hole - the only spot he really fits is in Kane's role and that's obviously not happening.  Sterling has always had a problem finishing but there's no denying he terrifies defenders and opens up space for others with his speed and running.

Alli - hopefully he's not hurt because I think he's crucial to their hopes of going deep.

I don't really see any reason to make drastic changes - it's obvious to anyone with eyes they need to sit Young but beyond that I still like the setup.

One final comment - Loftus-Cheek was pretty impressive in his short time out there.  He, Rashford and Vardy give Southgate a lot of options off the bench if they need a goal.  They have little options in midfield outside of Dier but he's a nice option if they need to hold a lead.
