***Official*** 2018 World Cup thread (and Drinking Guide) (4 Viewers)

My daughter is a big France fan (although she's out on Griezmann after tiring of his social media nonsense).

We've been texting about going up to Kezar Pub to watch the game at 3AM but I'm pretty sure we'll decide sometime tonight that it's a dumb idea.
I remember the US Portugal game in Korea was something like that here. GB and had plans to watch together, then turned to watch from homes but in touch with phone. Called him when the goals started going in... Woke up everybody in his house screaming into his answering machine, including him.

I keep messi hate shtick to this place, pretty sure I cleaned up on side bets though because some of these Portuguese guys really hate him.

I should clear about $500 if Messi can score 3 goals the whole tourney.

COME ON YOU HGH USING MIDGET.

Still loved that game.I finally see why soccer is so loved around the world.I am really late to the party.
That was not a typical soccer game to be honest.  1 out of a 100 are maybe that entertaining.

But it was also a nice balance because it is 1 out of a 100 that were as bad as the game just before it.

You don't watch Liverpool nearly enough. They're like a high octane sports car with a fuel line rubbing on the engine. Fun to watch and something is going to happen one way or the other

I watch Liverpool a ton.  That does not take away from what I said.  There are 1000's of soccer game every weekend.

I remember getting in trouble w/ Mrs. Eephus for waking the kids that night.  It had something to do with a Goose

I'm predicting it now.  One of the 60 remaining games will be better
I agree!  It is the world cup, there should be more than a handful of games as good or better than this left in the tournament (fingers crossed).

I did not say this was 1 in a 100 World Cup games, I said it was 1 in a 100 soccer games in general (thinking of every club and international game played every week).

This is true. If there are neutral newbies out there looking to dip their toes in... Liverpool have been the most fun rocketship/Trainwreck team around for a couple years and with no sign of slowing. 3-0 lead with 5 minutes to play? Not so fast... Converse true too.

What year did Stoichkov have the wonder free kick vs Germany?  Ros goal today reminded me of it. Having said...they might be nothing alike -- it's been awhile.

What was the goalie thinking?
Forlan hit it inside out.  Normally a ball from a right-footed player would curl across the striker's body, but it curls away.  So the keeper took a step the wrong way and was DOA once he saw the actual bend.

I've been trying to figure out who Meola sounds like to me.  I think he sounds like Aikman.

What a save by Lloris.  thought the socceroos might go up there.

France really lacking a fixed point of attack to combine around. Don’t know if Giroud is fully recovered, but if so, they need him. Still think it was a mistake to not call another natural 9. Benz or even Lacazette would have provided cover.

Also think that France simply doesn’t press high enough.

LOL Hiddink just made the same comment as I was about to hit Post.

Surprisingly (or not) they look exactly like the did against us.  Descamps not adjusting any real way should be a fireable offense.
